For instance, telling someone to format their hard drive and reinstall Windows just because they have a problem with a certain application or a game is extremely bad advice and such people who give out that kind of advice need to be moderated or removed from the list if they continually offer up such advice as the best solution to the problem at hand, nor is that the only example of poorly researched information over the last few months. Re: [Audyssey] Updating the List Guidelines
Hi Charles, Well, that is a rather extreme example, but yes that is one possibility. A more practical example of misinformation we would like to avoid might include the incident a couple of days back where a list member mistakenly said BGT costs $700 when in reality it costs $399. Of course, that single mistake would only merit a correction and a warning from the moderators, but it is none-the-less a straight forward case of the list member not having checked to get his facts straight before stating so on list. This part is speculation, but what if someone who was considering buying that product took that misinformation to be correct and decided not to purchase BGT believing the $700 price tag? That simple mistake would have cost one of our developers some money because of some list member not verifying his facts. Not saying it did happen, but it could happen in theory. The basic idea here is that people should be more careful about stating things as fact if they aren't sure, and we want things to be as reliable as possible. Cheers! I think we are all prone to a bit of misinformation from time to time like accidentally supplying the wrong web site or email address when asked, and there is no harm done to anyone. Its a mistake, and the poster can apologize and move on.. Its an entirely different situation when a poster tries to answer a question of which he or she obviously knows nothing about the subject being discussed and someone else who knows better has to go back and set the record straight. And just after sending that it hit me that if he's not getting mail messages then he wouldn't get my response either, lol. I've sent a direct message to his email account now. Thomas, maybe you should follow up with him since you know the most about the inner workings of the list and can probably do a little better debugging. Re: [Audyssey] Quiet list?
Hi John, You aren't the first to mention this. However, it seems to effect people at random. The list is up and running as usual but for some unknown reason some people are not getting messages delivered to them. Remember if there is ever a question about the list working please check the list archives. Cheers! Re: [Audyssey] Quiet list?
Hi Ian and all, I am looking into the problem. However, the problem seems to effect certain members at random. There are about three people just today that have complained about this issue and there is nothing that jumps out at me of being wrong.
