Yikes. Where can I get empire? that's a game I haven't heard of
before. Is it for dos or windows console?

At 02:27 AM 11/10/2016, you wrote:

another game similar to nethack in it's movement, that uses symbols
to show various game pieces and terrain features, and although I
have managed to win that one here and there, it's made harder by the
need to determine capital vs. lower case characters, which in itself
isn't difficult, but after a while, you assume you know the screen
layout, and then the computer sneaks in under your nose, because you
didn't check that troop transport, and later discover it belonged to
the computer instead of to you. :)

I've actually considered making an audio game out of empire, it
might be difficult to manage, but I think if it were done, it would
make tracking enemy pieces much easier.

[Audyssey] xbox one

2016-11-09 Thread tcwood12
Hi,
So I’ve been on this list a while. I usually just lurk, but I have a few
questions about the xbox one.

So it’s going to be black Friday soon. My goal is to go to the states (I’m in
Canada) and buy one of the originals for cheap. And here we go with the
questions.
Since I can’t simply return this once I get it – it won’t be as easy as simply
driving to the store and dropping it off, anyway – I’m curious if narrator only
works in the US region or if I can change it to Canada, since it will still be
English?
If not, how will the store work? Will I still be able to add my Canadian credit
card and buy games and things that way?
My next question is simple – does narrator work on the setup screen? If I
connect a keyboard to one of the USB ports and hit windows enter with simply a
3.5 mm pair of headphones plugged into the controller, am I going to be able to
get anywhere? Hopefully I won’t need HDMI – at the moment we don’t own a tv
with one. I’m also hopefully going to find a tv on sale there, too, but right
now I’m going with the worst.
I’m guessing if I just leave the system set to US this should work – though I’m
going to assume since I’m buying it from the US the region should already be
set to it.
How does the first pairing of the controller work? Is it hard?
Sorry if some of these questions seem silly. I’m from the pre ps3 era of video
gaming, so a lot of this is completely brand new to me.
Any help is so beyond appreciated at this point.
Thanks!
Tyler

Re: [Audyssey] nethack useful command

2016-11-09 Thread Travis Siegel
I wasn't talking about moving around in nethack, I have been playing
nethack since roughly 1988, I was talking about the screen readers and
their vicious habbit of going back to the start of the line when you go
to the next line. In dos, I could just go into review mode, press the
down arrow, and the cursor would stay where it was, so I'd know what was
to the south of my player, or the north. the screen readers these days
go to the start of the line, instead of staying where you are, so
checking to see what's around you is problematic. Unless you want to
count spaces, or something similar, it's not easy to find out what is
all around you on all eight compass points. I haven't had this problem
with my raspberry pi, and it's pispeak, but mac and windows screen
readers both like to move to the start of the line when I move up/down,
making games like nethack and empire difficult to play in a reasonable
amount of time.

@ character will find where you are at. I usually get screen
coordinates from the screen reader for special places on any level and
store those coordinates and location description in an orgmode
database as I play the game. I think once nethack is installed on a
machine searching for nhaccess will find you the accessibility
defaults file and that can be done with the locate command in linux
easily enough.

Audio games hub is a collection of 8 different experimental arcade-style
games offering both just audio, and also offering graphics alongside the
audio, but, focusing on audio being what's necessary to play the games
on the android platform.

See they mention that they've launched a kickstarter campaign, but,
either way, after the update this morning, gave it a quick run again,
with two of the included games - archery, and hunting - and, either way,
it seems like maybe they've cleaned up interface, or something - both
games worked nicely/fine/easily, and, only thing did before anything
else was go into settings, and turn down music volume, and ambient sound
volume to 5 out of 10, leaving the sound effects, and voice volume set
to 10, but, will, if I remember, play around with the other games
included in this some more now:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.AUT.AudioGameHub&hl=en

And, yes, it will tell you to turn off accessibility - as in, suspend
talkback - when you launch it, and, that is necessary.

And, yes, it will tell you to turn off accessibility - as in, suspend
talkback - when you launch it, and, that is necessary.

[Audyssey] android audio games hub update

2016-11-09 Thread Jacob Kruger
