Re: [Audyssey] ATGames - Immaturity and false accusations!

2007-08-04 Thread Lisa hayes
hi Raul, Well I hope that you don't change the list to make replies only go
to the person. I might not ask a question, or someone will ask before I do,
but help I usually am curious to know the answer. Ok my own thoughts on this
current thread are that the people concerned should grow up or leave the
list, we don't want or need them.

Hi Nicol,
Have you installed XNA Framework 3.0? Entombed uses XNA not DirectX. So if
you don't have the new XNA Framework installed the game will crash.

Nicol wrote:

HI all
I want to try out entombed so I went to audiogames.net and I selected
entombed in the combo box.
Then I clicked on the download link given for entombed.
I downloaded and installed the game fine, but when I tried to launch it I
get a screen with these buttons:
Send error report
And don't send.
What is wrong?
I have the latest direct x and .net framework.

  Hi all,
I don't mean to brag, but I beat my previous scores on Sonic Invaders and
Dynaman today.

Sonic invaders: score 21776, accuracy 77%, level 84
Dynaman: 1077600, or something like that. I almost got to the end of grid
level 6, and am position 1 on the Draconis score server.

Josh,

The concept of Bgt and that of Audio Game Maker is very different. Bgt is
a ssimple scripting language, meaning that you can control exactly what is
happening at all times. The range of functions that are in the engine will
of course grow over time, in order to allow for creation of as many
different types of games as possible.

The way that the engine is designed it is very easy to add new features to
it, and so anything that is demanded by enough customers will definitely
be added in.

I hope your toolkit is more flexible than that audio game maker was. I
never could figure out that audio game maker thing. And it ran way too
slowly for my taste. I hope this gct will allow us to make almost any

I have not decided on any final pricing figures, however the light version

When it is released it'll be on www.blastbay.com, however that won't be
for a while yet; it needs to go through extensive testing first. If you
are interested in applying as a tester, you are more than welcome to do
so.

Kind regards,

Josh,

The concept of Bgt and that of Audio Game Maker is very different. Bgt
is
a ssimple scripting language, meaning that you can control exactly
what

is
happening at all times. The range of functions that are in the engine
will
of course grow over time, in order to allow for creation of as many
different types of games as possible.

The way that the engine is designed it is very easy to add new
features

to
it, and so anything that is demanded by enough customers will
definitely

be added in.

Kind regards,

Hi Philip,

I hope your toolkit is more flexible than that audio game maker was.
I
never could figure out that audio game maker thing. And it ran way
too

slowly for my taste. I hope this gct will allow us to make almost any
conceiveable game anything from sports to fps to raceing and stuff.

This is true with one minor correction. Due to the great donations we
received for this year, the list is paid for by the donations. The time
for the donations is coming close since the list recycles in March. We
welcome donations during any time and since there are 298 members
currently, if all members donate just one dollar, it will pay for the list
for 3 years.

Many thanks.

Subject: [Audyssey] Releasing Some Old Text Games

Hello everyone,
over the last couple of days or so I have been looking through some of my
old back ups when I found the source code for some old games I had written
years ago. Most of these were text games I had written while I was a
college student just learning Visual Basic, C++, Java, etc. My thought is
I could spend some time, clean up the source code, fix any errors, or
whatever then release them as free games. Is anyone interested in some
free text games for Windows, Mac, and Linux?
For the most part the kinds of games I am talking about here is basic
board and card games like Black Jack, Life, Tick Tack Toe, Checkers,
Hangman, etc. Basically, the same kind of games you can get from Jim
Kitchen or Spoonbill without the sound effects. Although, the difference
here is the majority of these were written in C/C++ so I can easily make
Windows, Linux, and Mac OS versions without any major changes in the
source code. If you want additional Sapi or Gnome-Speech support that also
is possible though I would think most of you probably would be fine with
just the text. Any thoughts on this?

Smile.

Hi Dark,
As I said in my original post all of the games are simple board and card
games I created about 10 years ago when I was a student in college. Quite
honestly after looking at my own source code I don't think I was a skilled
enough programmer back then to even consider anything as complex as an
RPG, exploration, or large text adventure. I was an inexperienced
programmer just writing games for practice and fun back then. In fact,
after reviewing some of the source code i was quite mortified at how
inexperienced I was back then.
For that reason alone I am strongly considering rewriting afew of them
from scratch, since they are small games anyway, and releasing them as
completely revised versions. That way I can be sure I don't miss any
errors or mistakes I might have made as a studentPlus it gives me practice
in doing some triditional C/C++ programming since for the passed 5/6 years
I've mainly programmed using one of the .NET languages like C-Sharp and
Visual Basic which is very common place these days in the business world.
Kind of like going back to my roots as a programmer.
As for text based exploration/adventure games since I am getting back into
the C/C++ seen maybe I'll write a couple for practice. I've already began
the port of the Genesis 3D engine from C-Sharp to C++ so getting into the
groove again, getting some practice with C=++, is helpful to refresh
myself on the finer points of the language i either forgot or simply
haven't used in a long time.

Smile.

Download the winkit file first and install it. This will create an

Jim's games range from self-voicing versions of classic games like
monopoly, to sports games, quizzes arcade action and racing games.

they also have the advantage of being A, free, and B, quite small in

while your waiting, you could also try some brouser based games or
gamebooks on the internet, which may be played directly in internet

I'd particularly recommend sryth, www.sryth.commm, the fighting fantasy

You can also find many online games which require no downloads by

Many games can for example be run without the net framework,
I know this sinse for a while I couldn't get earlier versions of net

I suggest you give some of them a try, particularly those by Bsc, Gma,

Subject: [Audyssey] Sarah game infringes J.K. Rowling’s copyright

Just in: After four months of deliberating, Judge Robert Patterson has
ruled that the Sarah and the castle of witchcraft and wizardry game
infringes J.K. Rowling’s copyright in the Harry Potter series.

According to the AP, Judge Patterson granted an injunction, ruling that
Rowling had proven that PCS Game’s “Sarah and the castle of witchcraft and
wizardry” would cause her irreparable harm as a writer.

The suit, filed late last year against PCS Games, an independent game
developing company in Michigan, alleged that plans by Michigan-based game
developer PCS Games to sell a game, Sarah and the castle of witchcraft and
wizardry, who's Web site that serves as a rather daunting compendium of
all games for the blind, violated Warner and Rowling’s copyright and takes
away the future market for a similar game that Rowling and Electronic Arts
plans to develop.

Here’s the opinion.

Judge Patterson ruled in Rowling’s favor because the “Sarah game"
appropriates too much of Rowling’s creative work for its purposes.” He
also wrote that, “While the Sarah game, in its current state, is not a
fair use of the Harry Potter works, games that share the Sarah game’s
purpose of aiding blind game players of being able to play a Harry Potter
game generally should be encouraged rather than stifled.”

Ethan Horwitz, an IP lawyer at King & Spalding, told the Law Blog: “What
Judge Patterson is saying is that when you look at fair use, one of the
dominant issues is, are you providing commentary or taking the value of
the work and selling it as your own? He decided that the value of the work
was being taken, that [Rowling] had the ability to develop the kind of
game that PCS Games was putting out, and that she’d indicated an intent to
do so.”

Phil

Hi Nicol,
Well, talking about someone's religious views, opinions, and beliefs is a
sensitive issue for this list. We have specific guidelines in place to
prevent listers, including the moderators, from flaming anyone based on
his or her race, religion, or gender. So I'll try and tread carefully, and
I hope I don't step on anyones toes when i do.
As you are probably aware there are several different opinions out there
what defines living a good, moral, religious life. I've met my share of
Christians who lead very laid back liberal lives, and I have met my share
of Christians who are extremely rule bound. Based on what I've read in
your e-mail your mom is the very rule bound type who sees sin, evil, in
everything and anything that isn't specifically religious. Especially,
games she doesn't like. Believe me when I say I know all too well what
that is like.
My wife's family, my in-laws, are a lot like your mother. I love Star
Wars, and my in-laws claim it is Satanic. I like the Harry Potter books,
and my in-laws say that is Satanic. I like a mixture of Country and Rock
music, and my in-laws say all music that isn't religious in nature is
sinful. Since they view most television shows as sinful the only stations
you can watch at there house is Home and Garden, DIY, Trinity
Broadcasting, and anything else with religious or home repair type
programming. You wouldn't catch them dead with programs such as Law and
Order, CSI, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, whatever. In my personal opinion I
think people like my wife's parents are obsessed and fanatical about
religion. However, it is their choice to live that way and I must respect
them for it even if I completely disagree with them about their point of
view.
So here is the point of this message. In regards how to handle your mom
regarding your choice in games weather it is Shades of Doom, Mysteries of
the Ancients, or something else you are not going to be able to convince
her to see things exactly your way. Having dealt with my in-laws, which
have a similar view about video games, she's already made her mind up that
these games are bad, sinful, evil, whatever name you want to call it. The
best thing you can do in a case like that is try to agree to disagree. Try
to look for areas you can compromise on without totally surrendering to
her views.
For example, your mother asked you not to play these kinds of games on her
computer, read e-mail about them on her computer, whatever. Since that is
her computer, she finds the material offensive, respect her by not putting
that kind of material on her computer. However, if you download and play
games on your own personal computer then your mom needs to respect your
right to do so provided it is on your own computer not hers. You are a
fully grown adult, and your mom not only needs to respect that, but needs
to learn she is no longer responsible for your choices and decisions. I
think most Christians would agree with me that your mom and the elders of
your church have absolutely no right to invade your privacy, remove stuff
from your computer they disagree with, all in the name of religion. That's
just flat out wrong, and falls under the category of religious abuse.
Anyway, as for the deeper question, "is Mysteries of the Ancients sinful
to play," I'm pretty sure it is not sinful. Your mother's opinion that
Mysteries of the Ancients has to do with idolatry is simply ridiculous,
and is pretty far fetched. This is a perfect example of someone who shoots
off their mouth and haven't a clue what they are talking about. All the
while believing themselves to be holier than thou.
First of all, idolatry by definition is the worship of idols. If I made
you a statue and told you to pray to it that would be idolatry. If I made
you a cross, a picture of Jesus, or anything else religious and told you
to pray to it, worship it, instead of God that would be idolatry. If I
told you I was a god, told you to worship me instead of God, that would be
idolatry. Since you don't worship my game, at least I hope you don't, that
isn't idolatry. It is simply entertainment. Nothing more and nothing less.
As for your mother getting upset over the word tomb in the title that is
irrational as it gets. Sure tombs are burial places for the dead, but many
are very interesting to study and explore. The Egyptian pyramids once were
used as tombs, and thousands of people have explored them over

You know you can drive Mach 1 tts with the keyboard. I don't think that
it is as fun, but it can still be done.

I just tried to make Mach 1 tts as close to real driving as I could with

Just off the top of my head, here goes: If I remember right, Tom didn't
want the games to not be created, thus leaving those who preordered with
nothing. He also wanted to work on them. He is still doing so, although,
through the demands of others, plans have had to be changed. I commend
Tom for not letting gamers get screwed. Gamers, myself among the number,
preordered both titles in good faith from James North, who let all of us
down. He also screwed Tom, big time. Tom is working on rectifying the
situation as best he can, as quickly as he can. Other projects he has
plans for are on hold. I can't wait to see those, too. The games he is
working on may not be in their original form, which bums me out, but I'll
get good games, I'm sure. Hang in there, folks. Don't give up, Tom.

Hi Jason,
Keep in mind James North had sold the game to several customers before I
took over the project. I agreed to take it over, and sell it under my own
name once I completed it. I never saw one dime of the money James North
got for creating the early development of the game. So in addition to the
$1500 I made off the game during the Christmas season I would have had to
come up with an extra $1000 to insure everyone got their money back. The
$1500 I made over the Christmas season would have been no problem to
refund at the time. However, coming up with the money to refund everyone
who paid James North instead of me was not financially possible, nor do I
think I have to owe $1000 in refunds I did not personally take orders
for.

Cheers.

Jason Allen wrote:
It isn't unfair. If someone bought a license for the game and you were

It would have been the professional way to handle a bad situation - in
my

Dear Mr. Ward,
When you say your Raceway game will "probably rock when it is completed"
will this rocking affect my computer's stability?
Will it make me sea sick?
As I drink coffee when playing games I hope this rocking will not spill
coffee onto my keyboard as the keys will stick and not work well.
What is the cycles per second of this rocking motion?
Can you have a variable rocking so if the rocking is too much I can turn
it

down?
If the rocking is not user adjustable, should I purchase foam pads to
place
under the computer to prevent this rocking motion from upsetting my
coffee

mug?
If I play your game on a laptop will this rocking motion cause undue
tightness in my lap?

Thank you in advance for answering my questions.

Hi Charles,
Well, I know in one case, USA Raceway, is actually going to be a bit
better than the original design. James North's version of Raceway was
going to be more or less like the classic Poll Position where you raced
against three other cars on the track. you could select a track like an
oval, figure 8, etc.
What I want to do with Raceway is make it along the lines of Nascar
Thunder. Complete with a 26 game season, 10 championship races, season
scores, realistic physics, force feedback support, etc. My version will
probably rock when it is completed. So try and not get too bumbed out
over them not being exactly the original. Smile.

Hi,
That is a good question. I'd have to say two of my favorite audio
games right now are Shades of Doom by GMA Games and Sarah by PCS
Games. As far as a style I am a big fan of full FPS type games. They
are much more realistic feeling, and more like the sighted games I use
to play before losing my vision.
I also like my own games like STFC because of the strategy elements
involved in playing. There are many ways a battle can be played out,
and if you very your decisions from game to game you never really get
the same game twice. Enemies will usually do a completely different
attack strategy everytime.
