Thanks. That bug has been around a while I thought I had fixed that in
beta 21 but apparently not. I'll take a look at the code again and see
if I can fix that one.

Scott wrote:

been pre beta 18, so chances are you already know about it?

My reply:

Yeah, I know about this. They were never added to the view
menu/command and it was one of those things I was putting off until I
knew how many staircases would be in the game before adding them to
the view command. They are actually one of the updates going into the
game pretty soon.

Scott wrote:

The question is, while I do prefer the view command nowadays, is there

My reply:

That's a catch 22 at the moment. That functionality exists in the
game, but is currently unasigned to a key, because I can't find a key
that I can logically map it to. If I map it to control, for example,
then commands like control+t won't speak the number of torches in
your inventory. If I asign it to something like escape you can't use
it to quit/escape the game, menus, etc. I'm thinking shift might be a
good alternative, but I'm still open to suggestions. I really don't
know what to use for silencing speech.

Cheers!

Subject: [Audyssey] pan

Hi.
I'm having a big problem with some of my computers and I'm sort of getting
weery of trying to put up with it, wondered if anyone else knows anything
about this. I never hear anyone else complaining. It's weird. I can't
stand it, I don't see how anyone else who had this problem couldn't notice
it.

Basically, my sounds don't pan properly. More accurately, my stereo field
isn't quite right. I tried to play shades of doom today, and I just can't
seem to do it, because when a monster gets close to me, it is totally
impossible to tell where they are. They are always dead center, I don't
know which way to turn. When they're off in the distance, I can figure out
where they are then, but the stereo field still isn't as good as what I'm
used to.

Take Any of Jim Kitchen's games, like mach 1 tts. I totally can't play
that, because the crouds on each side are right on top of me. Once I get
to a turn, it's like immediately one of the crouds is right dead center in
my stereo field, and It's loud enough I can't hear which way to go to get
closer to the croud on the other side and off the wall. So basically I
totally can not play that game. Topspeed, I haven't got any stereo
perception of other cars when they are close to me, I can hear them a bit,
but they are always dead center. If they go away from me a bit then I can
sort of hear if they go around a corner, but on top of me it's perfectly
dead center all the time even if they are all the way on the left wal and
I am all the way on the right wall.

Is there a way to fix this? I have a bunch of computers that do it, and a
couple that don't. My mac for one doesn't seem to do it with the xp
virtual machine. I thought my desktop didn't do it until I tried to play
mach1tts with it and experienced the same thing. It plays topspeed better
than this hp laptop does though.

This computer here is an HP dm4 with a core I 5 430 processor. It has i d
t audio unfortunately. I don't know why anybody would want to sell their
laptops with that in it, it sucks in my oppinion.

I have a Tosheba with the same processor but which has a realtech sound
card and it does the same thing as the hp. The hp and tosheba both run
windows xp.

My netbook does it too and it uses a realtech with xp. My mac doesn't, and
it runs xp. It uses, um. I can't remember what it's called now, Sirrus or
something like that.

I think I have my direct x all updated, somehow I think that is my
problem. I think something was changed in direct x somewhere along the
road that messed everything up. I'm pretty sure my desktop does great with
it's audigy2zs, but it still doesn't play mach1 tts worth a hoot. Oh, but
wincar6 plays ok, even on my hp, except when I get really close to a wall,
it's dead center in my speakers, when I get farther away, it still sounds
like it's closer to me than it really is. Like if I stay dead center where
you can't hear the walls at all I can do it, but if I let it drift over
any, the side of my headphones opposit the wall still sounds just about as
loud as the side near the wall, even if I'm just barely in range to hear
that wall.

I'm stumped, about ready to do something drastic. I think btw if I set the
GMA games to use software rendering for sounds it works better, so I
should at least be able to play sod and gtc and lw properly. I actually
forgot about that until I wrote this message. What about Jim Kitchen's
games though? I really want to play mach1tts, but I just can't. It's so
frustrating.

Re: [Audyssey] MOTA Beta 22 Released

2011-08-16 Thread Michael Taboada (AI5HF)

Hi,
I was trying mota beta 21 the other day, and I couldn't figure out how this
analog jumping worked. For example, you said that the longer you hold down
the keys the farther you jump? Well when I push down control then push down
the right arrow, she jumps and lands within about half a second or less, so
I don't see how I can control this. And whether I hold it for a long time or
a short time, she always seems to land on the other edge of whatever I was
jumping over.

Hope someone can help,

-Michael.

Subject: Re: [Audyssey] MOTA Beta 22 Released

Hi,

No. Analog jumping is a core part of the game. If I got rid of the
analog jumping it would make jumping traps way too easy as well as
give you less control over weather you want to do a hop, short jump,
or a very long jump. Besides that, analog jumping is very common in
mainstream games, and by adding analog jumping I'm in effect creating
something on par with mainstream games. It is a standard feature that
far too many VI audio game developers ignore, but I am trying to
introduce to the audio games community.

As far as difficulty that's different for everyone. I personally don't
think analog jumping is too hard but just takes practice. Of course,
I've been playing mainstream games with analog jumping for most of my
life so I'm quite familiar with the concept. It might take you some
time to adapt to it. The thing to keep in mind here is that its quite
useful once you get the hang of it.

I know it's not my place to enforce these rules, but I'd advise you be a
little careful talkingabout these things. If you were talking about how NVDA
handles games, then that would probably be acceptable to the moderators, but
I think this would probably a little too much off topic, as it says in the
rules.

Hey guys; I know some of you use NVDA instead of jaws, so I was wondering,
how do NVDA users handle parts of the screen that requires the jaws
cursor? For example, often when installing something, you're asked a
question, if you didn't hear the question, you have to use jaws cursor to
read what's being asked otherwise all you see are the buttons.

How do NVDA handle that?

Hi Karl,

As for running and pausing when you press enter I have no clue as to
what causes it. People have been complaining about that for a while
now, I've looked, and can't find any reason for the problem. I can't
fix what I don't know is wrong. Best thing to do right now is to
ignore or overlook it because fixing things like that is really,
really, really low on my list of priorities right now. Its not
something I personally consider critical.

/As for jumping the Genesis Engine uses an analog jump system similar
to many mainstream PC and console games. I'm not going to totally
rewrite the jump system to allow you to press control and press right
arrow x number of times because its not a standard method of jumping
and I personally don't like it. This methodology of pressing jump and
hitting an arrow several times is something the audio games community
came up with and it is not standard. I'm trying to introduce some true
mainstream standards into my projects so I'm sorry, but I'm not going
to change it for something I consider to be contrary to those
standards and quality I'm trying to introduce here.

Cheers!

Hi all. I had a question. I have seen allot of different audio games but I
am wondering if the blind community has any games that have audio and are
like fps but where you can go on quests and play online with other
players? I am kind of thinking of the games that the sighted people have
like say something like Age of Conan. I remember when I was little and I
used to like playing Eamon and I remember some time ago some one had
talked of bringing this game to the windows platform as a audio game. I am
wondering did that ever get off the ground? I just am wondering if the
audio games community has any games like this? I was thinking of this
because I watched the big bang theory ep where Penny was addicted to
playing the on line game Age of Conan and so thought I would ask if any
blind people have played this or if we even have anything remotely similar
to this in a audio game or like eamon. many thanks. from Mich.

[Audyssey] Easter Quest version 1.1

2011-08-03 Thread Michael Taboada (AI5HF)
Hi all,
I would like to announce that MTGames and Kevin A Games have just released
Easter Quest version 1.1. There is more information in the change log in the
readme, but in short, there is now a way to check the current time remaining,
your score and the dog's score is now separate, and you can now turn off the
background sounds. As well as that, your music volume settings and the
background sound toggle now saves and is reloaded each time you run the game.
Enjoy,

Michael,
Thanks for this new version. I really enjoy this little game. I don't know
if any of these have been implemented, haven't checked out newest version
yet, but here are some suggestions for future versions:
first, it'll be real useful if we had a key we could press to check how
much time's left on the clock. T would be a good one. also, I'd suggest
that the players and the dog's eggs status's are separate. it takes a
while for the person to say you've earned x points and y eggs, etc. if we
had 2 separate status keys we could check ours or the dog's eggs
independently. if this can't be done, then a way to interrupt speech would
be useful. also, I like playing the game with no music. if we could turn
off the music completely, or if music settings were saved that'll be
awesome. also it'll be great to turn off background sounds. I find them
distracting. All I want to hear when I play are the eggs, and the dog.
That's all I can think of right now. Keep up the great work, and I'm
hoping to see some new games from you guys in the future!

I'm just curious: is it more difficult to get certain eggs? I would think
eggs with a greater point value might have a greater probability of being
buried. At any rate, I'll hhave a look and tell you what I think.

[Audyssey] MTGames and Kevin A Games present... Easter Quest

2011-07-26 Thread Michael Taboada (AI5HF)
Hi all,
I am the owner of MTGames, where I make audio games. This will be my first true
game I and a friend have written. It is called Easter quest. So without
further delays, let's get into the game!
The goal of this game is to pick up as many eggs for as many points as you can
in the allotted time period. You get 4 minutes, along with whatever extra
time you may accumulate during the game. There are three types of eggs, which
can increase the strategy of the game, as they are each worth a different
number of points.
"But wait!" I hear you cry. Isn't that just like super egg hunt? My answer is
not quite. There is no way for an enemy to attack you or anything in this
game, but there is a dog that will try to bury your eggs, making you lose
points, and worse, time. That is one difference. However, I think the major
difference
is that there are multiple types of eggs, as I have already said, each with
their own number of points. Also, instead of having clocks, the eggs will
occasionally
give you extra time. I leave it up to you to decide whether you think this game
is too much like super egg hunt. However my goal was not to replace super
egg hunt, simply to offer some more options and flavor.
Now, to where you can get it. You can get this game at the games page:
http://mtgames.org/games/.
If you want a direct link for some reason, that link would be:
http://mtgames.org/games/easter_setup.exe.
I hope you all enjoy this game and stick along with me in the years to come, as
I develop even more audio games. Hang on, it'll be an interesting ride.
Sincerely yours,
Michael Taboada, MTGames.
