There is no possible way of playing World of Warcraft at this time. It's all
done with the mouse and you have to be able to see to know what to click on.

Re: [Audyssey] Dragon Reilms

2015-04-06 Thread Brice Mellen
You can use VIP mud to play. Log into your account shoes the wizard from the
start when it asks what client. Then choose your character and press go play in
Firefox. It will open a window with a file in it save that file. Open the file
using notepad and at the bottom of the file there is a line that says key copy
to your clipboard and then open BIP mud. The port and website information
should be somewhere on the website so you can set up a new connection on VIP.
Then all you have to go do is open the connection that you made and enter your
character name press enter and paste the key and then press enter and it should
connect. It might be the other way around if so do the steps above in reverse
to get it to connect it's been a while since I have logged onto that game.

To be honest more people mailing them won't make much difference and
might even irritate them. I would recommend you try notifying them of the
work A sharp have done and the podcast made by the developer of A Dark
Room on accessibility modifications and how easy those are to add, sinse
many sighted developers believe that access in their games means a
complete redesign where for Ios at least it often can be done more easily.

If however they have said not, odds are they won't change their minds,
indeed I'm surprised you got a reply rather than the usual simple

I'd recommend just changing games and supporting developers who do care
about access sinse unless it was a legal requirement some developers
just wont' do it, and your better off expending your efforts on those who
 will.

I had a similar experience earlier with starbase orion, and would now

buy startraders elite instead of wasting time with the scumbag who makes
starbase orion and has flat out refused to add access.

[Audyssey] Need help with making a partician

2013-03-30 Thread brice mellen
Hi, this might be considered off topic, I don’t know. But here is my problem
that I can’t seem to get help with.

I recently installed the homebrew channel and apps on my wii, and with it came
a usb loader for loaing games off of an external hdd, the thing is the only hdd
I have handy right now is my 1 tb. I managed to free up a little space on it
and I went to put a game on it and realized it’s formatted as fat32 so nothing
bigger then 4 gigs can be on it, but I cannot just format the whole drive cause
it has about 900 gigs worth of shows, movies, and mainly stuff I’m not real
keen on losing. So, I want to make an ntfs partician on the drive, well, the
windows 7 disc partician utility is not accessible, and so far I haven’t found
a single program for windows that is. Please help someone

The computer doesn't send everything it has each time, so that is why you
are still suffering loses. They will always keep a
sizable force in their base, and they send out the extras for raids, as they
are made.

I think you are right. Many people have had a very hard time with mission
3, and I'm planning to adjust it to make it a bit
easier. It's a shame to change it, when other people have been able to beat
it, but I don't want to scare the majority of
the players away with this new mission. Perhaps I can just start the
mission out with more resources.

Hi Jeremy, got a question...If enemy
raid with 3 soldiers and 1 knight, I believe this is their
full force and is quite weak. I launch an attack with 3
types of army and 5 of each, how is it that i suffer so much
losts? Is a challenge to rebuilt again and is ok...just like
to be clear about it.
Btw, did you notice that when you released the last
version, the discussions of this game seems much lesser? I
guess mission 3 is too difficult for many of them. They feel
that is unbeatable and have given up.
Looking forward to your new version and I know it won't
take you long. haha! And we can always expect something new
added in the new release and not just minor changes here and
there but is actually still the same thing. Thanks for your
cool work and...thanks for giving me a hard time. haha!

Re: [Audyssey] castaway suggestions

To be honest I thaught mission 2 was harder then mission 3, because trying
to keep the enemy at bay while fighting off goblins and building stuff all
at the same time is hard to do when your guys only work so fast. And then to
have the Yetti's come down from the mountain and star killing in injuring

There is a big jump in difficulty from mission 2 to 3. Instead of making it
easier, how about adding 1 or 2 new missions in between and make this a
later mission? Maybe something to get them more prepared is a mission which
they have to launch an attack with 5 knights, 5 rangers, 5 pikemen and 5
cavalrys? This is like having to wipe out a more powerful enemy force than
mission 2.
Not sure if you got my suggestion on setting certain buildings to high
priority with backspace instead of just open or close. This way is easier to
tell the workers to supply resources or work on a particular building.
Sometimes i have to close 4 or 5 other buildings for peasants to work on the
1 i need.

Hi Lenron,

To my knoledge the latest MK game is only for the game consoles like
Play Station III, XBox 360, etc. I haven't heard of a PC version. As
for it working with Jaws its a mainstream console game so it doesn't
work with Jaws or any screen reader. You have to memorize the
placement of items in the menus in order to play it.

I don't think I've ever gotten a game with over 32 population, the increase
rate seems very slow, even when I make darned sure I have an extra house in
play at all times. Even with the premies and sweat shop chosen, I'm still
just not generating population very quickly. Is there something I should
know that I don't? If I have two extra houses, will my population increase
faster than just one? Or are people just playing longer, slower games than
I have to get to 45 or more population?

[Audyssey] I beat mission 3 on cast aways!!!

2011-08-23 Thread brice mellen
Hi just wanted to say I beat mission 3 on easy mode. it was a bit difficult,
but I figured out a nice strategy to winning. I built the 12th catapolt before
they destroyed to many of my buildings and towards the end I was getting
soldiers killed as fast as I could make them.

Re: [Audyssey] Question about graphics on cast aways

2011-08-22 Thread brice mellen
Well, I think it's awsome that you did put graphics in the game, cause it
opens up a whole new avenue for people in that sense. Now blind and sighted
alike can both play cast aways and enjoy it all the same. And is their a
keystroke to turn the sound off?

Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Question about graphics on cast aways

Yeah, that was pretty much how I felt about it too. Putting in the game's
current level of graphics took far longer than I expected and I spent the
whole time telling myself I'm wasting all this time and probably no one is
going to even see this. lol! The good news is that your sighted friend
should be fully able to play the game using sight alone. Being sighted
myself, and having had a few sighted friends play the game, I usually play
the game with all sounds turned off believe it or not.

Accessible and sighted games seem to be um, organized differently. I can't
really put my finger on the right word to describe it. The lack or presence
of artwork isn't the only thing that separates them, so your friend is
probably also trying to get used to those changes as well.

Oh, I think I came up with an example that might work to describe what I was
trying to say. If you took book written in Spanish, and translated each
word individually into English for a friend, even though they could
understand the words, the structure of the sentences would still be strange
because Spanish and English use a different system. In that same way,
adding artwork to an accessible game will still stand out as strange to a
mainstream gamer. This isn't a big problem or anything, just something
worth sharing in case anyone's interested. :)

Okay will let her know. Well, I
understand that considering it is supposed to be a game for
the blind. Although it would be cool at least for some of my
other fully sighted friends to be able to see people and
stuff, but like you said graphics is probably last on the
things to do list in cast aways.

Scott,
Code is 091. you input them by pressing appropriate button. square, triangle
and circle respectively. if you hold up on the Dpad and a button you go in
reverse. so hold up and press square you'll get 9. keep holding button and
press again you get 8 etc. they all default to 0. there are all sorts of
neat codes like unlimited super meter lol. as to your question, we can play

Correct. There are no visuals to represent the people within the game.
Your friend should be able to read the messages along the top caption of the
window, so I recommend having her maximize the window to give her the
largest possible view of the text. In some cases with very long messages,
she will not be able to view all of it. These are fine examples of more
things I really should develop for sighted gamers, but on the list of things
to add I have put graphics pretty low in terms of what is most important,
haha.

Yep, I noticed this too, even though i had three knights, the soldiers kept
on being knights even when i had three cloaks and 2 armour in my barracks.

the ai that is supposed to balance military to insure that soldiers train to
be the troop type you have least of doesn't seem to be working
unfortunately.

i don't know if actually assigning soldiers to train is necessary though,
sinse if the ai worked as suggested and soldiers tried to equalize your
number of troops that should work.

i will say though with the weakness circle this just makes life even more
difficult, sinse you don't necessarily want! 7 knights, when you could have
five knights and two rangers.

I also agree about mission 3, it seems impossible, because the enemies get
stronger and stronger far faster than you can even if you raise their base.

imho raids should do more damage to them.

Another way that might make the game flexible would be to remove the
requirement for metal from the barracks, sinse that would mean you don't
encessarily have to build up metal production first, and thus could
concentrate on other methods and troop types like rangers and pikemen.

Beware the grue!

Hi.Hi,
I am still playing mission 3 in castaways, and I must say I think it needs
some serious rebalancing, at the moment I think its unbeatable.

but anyway that's not why I am writing,
I am writing to ask could we have more control over troop training?
as at the moment, the game seems to automatically assume just because
there is armour at the barracks I want anyone I tell to be a soldier to
become a knight.
I really think that the military jobs need to each have there own
categories, so soldiers, literally meaning ordinary soldiers, a specific
category for knights, and all other military units should have there own
job types.
as I frequently find myself in the position where I am building up spare
stockpiles of armour, and yet I don't want people to become knights just
because the armour is lying around I would actually like to be able to set
what military unit people become.

Well, I don't wanna do mission 3 until I can complete mission 2, but heres
my problem. First off I think that killing is a little accessive, it takes
so long to get new people that losing them really hurts you I think that the
process of new people needs to be sped up a lot. It's really irritating when
I finally get my beriks and all that built and start finally getting what I
need just to make my soldiers and then bam, yetti's come down and attack and
kill my people. And then if I try to build beriks right away and not food
making places then my guys start dying off of starvation, then having to
build houses on top and that, and wait the rediculous amount of time to wait
for your children to grow up and your women to have the children, it doesn't
really leave much that you can do, not to mention the goblins that swarm you
so fast that your better off just ignoring them because you make no progress
their. And might I say, I'm playing on easy.

agreed about the enemy gets stronger so much faster than most normal players
can! i tried to delay on the start of the catapault building, trying to
build a big army to fend off enemy troops, but i must say i failed big time!
i choose to produce about 10 knights and 10 cavalry, and it totally did not
went as i expecte it to haha. i love battles, but i guess i will have to
produce more types of troops i guess. 1 question here is, is 5 of each type
of the 4 different troops stronger than 10 of each type of 2 troops? i only
made knights and calvary because i think they arequite balance because
knights are strong but slow and calvary are fastest but not as strong, also
becauserangerskill my knights, and my calvary will kill them in return.
likewise, pikemen kills my calvary but my knights kills them too. my
thinking is either to build an army of knights and calvary, or rangers and
pikemen will really balance the fighting strengths and weaknesses but guess
not really. so is there a point of building a big quantity of 1 type? or
should i just make 1 each instead of 4 of a kind.

imho raids should do more damage to them.

Another way that might make the game flexible would be to remove the
requirement for metal from the barracks, sinse that would mean you don't
encessarily have to build up metal production first, and thus could
concentrate on other methods and troop types like rangers and pikemen.

Beware the grue!

Subject: [Audyssey] better control of troop training in castaways

Hi.Hi,
I am still playing mission 3 in castaways, and I must say I think it needs
some serious rebalancing, at the moment I think its unbeatable.
but anyway that's not why I am writing,
I am writing to ask could we have more control over troop training?
as at the moment, the game seems to automatically assume just because
there is armour at the barracks I want anyone I tell to be a soldier to
become a knight.
I really think that the military jobs need to each have there own
categories, so soldiers, literally meaning ordinary soldiers, a specific
category for knights, and all other military units should have there own
job types.
as I frequently find myself in the position where I am building up spare
stockpiles of armour, and yet I don't want people to become knights just
because the armour is lying around I would actually like to be able to set
what military unit people become.

hahaha love that quote. I know what you're saying about paying to play
online, but thing is, PSN's been quite unreliable as of late. you know that
saying we get what we pay for? well we're certainly getting that with psn.
which is to say, not a whole lot. the web interface is completely down and
has been under maintenance for months now. since psn went down in fact.
that's totally ridiculous. I'd hate to pay for online, but if I was paying
for PSN these issues would be totally unacceptable. plus we might end up
paying for online soon anyway. did you read their new privacy policy?
basically says that PSN is free for now. that doesn't sound all that great
to me. also did you see the latest firmware update? most features were for
plus members only which makes me quite angry. if you're going to charge us
do it already. don't try and sugar coat it or whatever. do it all at once
and get it over with. I think, and this is just speculation on my part, that
PSN can't sustain itself unless they end up making us pay for it at some
point. either by charging for online outright, or by adding so much
exclusivity to plus that the free online becomes useless to the point where
most people end up paying for plus anyway. I really love Sony and what they
stood for, but it appears to me that their sinking fast. you checked out
playstation blog share recently? a total waste of time in my opinion. so
many great requests on there, and none of them have been implemented. now
what on earth is the point of adding such a service if our feedback isn't
taken into account? cross game chat for instance. we've been asking for it
for 5 years! and we still! don't have it. Sony better stop lying to us and
tell us outright if it can or can't be done. There you have it guys: reasons
why I want to switch to 360. I have loyalty to no company, and I don't
consider myself a fanboy. I stuck with Sony because they were an awesome and
respectable company. however their recent arrogance and lack of
communication lately is making many people question their intelligence. In
fact I think their arrogance was what got them hacked in the first place.
they basically said no bunch of amateur kids are going to hack our
unhackable ps3. I'm not exaggerating either. you can Google the article if
you like. Needless to say, PSN was hacked for like 2 months shortly after.
oops! Sony, do not anger the internet. That's a very bad idea! After PSN
returned, things haven't been the same since. we get frequent and lengthy
maintenance periods that disrupt our gaming, and the updates we get are
either security patches, or plus exclusive features. I'm getting tired of
the whole thing.

Hi Dark,

Yeah, no kidding. Even when I could see, before I lost my sight, world
8 was possitively evil to play. It was pretty difficult even with
vision, and I've tried it a few times without sight and its pretty
much impossible.

However, for the low vision aspect I'd agree with you on that. The
game did have good contrast, everything was easy enough to see, but
the greencolored blood always threw me for a loop. The dripping blood
and pools of blood looked like something Slimer from Ghost Busters
left behind. Lol!

I mean I understand to a point why they replaced the naked statues
with statues in robes to sensor the game for younger American
audiences and stuff, but changing the color of the blood to look like
green slime was absolutely rediculous. I realise they were trying to
tame down the gory graphics and atmosphere, but it just looked silly
instead of gory. Ug...Let's have enough of this religious/political
sensorship crap.

Anyway, you are right on about developing the Genesis Engine so I can
create more analog platformers that are like Megaman, Castlevania, and
so on. To date there just isn't anything like it for the audio games
market. I can't wait until I get MOTA out and can work on games like
Castlevania etc myself.

Cheers!

Hi Dark,

Agreed. The way console gaming has evolved interms of the new Wii
controllers, the XBox Connect technology, etc I think there will still
be more than enough of a market for console gaming despite what the
article says.

For one thing, the article completely overlooked or ignored is that
newer isn't necessarily cinonimous with better. There are always going
to be people who are happier with their old console, their old games,
and no matter how many new cool games you come up with, create some
new online style of gaming that makes consoles obsolete, there will be
someone who still wants to play the old games using the old hardware.
I do it all the time with my Atari 2600, NES, and Super NES consoles,
because I still like them despite being old and obsolete. So saying
that consoles are or will be soon at the end of their life is
stretching things a bit I think.

For instance, let's take Windows 7 vs XP. Well, we all know Windows 7
is the latest and newest Windows operating system available. However,
it still has not convinced the majority of the Windows PC market to
move away from XP. Both blind and sighted users alike generally agree
Windows XP is better, they don't like this or that about Windows 7, or
they just don't feel the need to spend money to upgrade both hardware
and software to get Windows 7. Either way Windows XP still has the
market share even though it is now 10 years old. Its not likely that
this will change right away. Eventually, yes, Windows 7 will replace
Windows XP, but people will hold onto XP as long as they can delaying
that change as long as possible. We might compare this to how many
people have PS III's and how many people like myself still play using
a PS II.

My point being is that the article is a hypathetical look at where the
gaming market will be 10 years from now. However, that can be hard to
determine at the best of times. Right now the way the global
economic situation is I don't see people rushing out to buy new tech
for games if we don't have a serious improvement in the next couple of
years. The USA is almost bankrupt as it is, and if the dollar goes
belly up the entire global economey will go straight down the toilet.
So now isn't a great time to look at future projectsions when everyone
is watching his her wallet closely. That doesn't even consider
personal preference, and probably doesn't exclude people like myself
who could care less if Sony has online games or comes out with the PS
IV console next as I'm currently happy with my PS II.

Cheers!

less interested myself in consoles than I used to be back in the days of

Hi,

Yes, that's true, but I don't think the article was really looking at
console sales right now. It was more of a promo or advertisement of
the kinds of technology we could expect to see within the next 10
years. Like all developers they seem to believe that their new
technologies will eventually whipe out the console competition and
gaming will move to the internet and you can simply dialup and play
using your Iphone or Android phone. Perhaps so, but I don't think that
anything like that could completely whipeout the console market. New
technologies usually never catch on as much as the developer expects.

For example, I remember Apple being mentioned specifically in the
article. Its true that Mac sales have doubled over the last three or
four years, thanks to the Mac X platform, and of course their IPhone
and IPod markets are doing well. However, they still have not been
able to replace Microsoft as the primary operating system of choice,
and Windows 7 sales are still way ahead of Mac OS 10.6 sales. On the
smart phone front Google's Android phones are giving Apple's IPhone
some stiff competition. My point being that if Apple or anyone else
thinks they can just kick Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony out of the
gaming market with a brand new internet based gaming platform they are
over estimating the impact of their technology.

First, PC based games have had internet or online capability for at
least the last 15 years or so. Many of the new consoles have online
modes which are quite popular. A new completely online gaming platform
might be the way of the future, but its not exactly totally new given
that internet access is becoming a part of game consoles etc already
My question would be, what is so fantastic about this new gaming
platform that a game console doesn't have?.

Cheers!

Hi Bryce,
Sorry for the trouble with online racing.
Since starting the card room at Blind adrenaline, RR has taken a
backseat given my limited amount of time to devote to the various projects.
I had hoped to have RR 2.0 out by this time this year, but a couple
of issues have set me back.
Right now, the online server is down as I prepare for the new release
of RR, and I hope very soon to have the RR email list and online racing
community active, where folks can share tracks, arrange races, and bet
their race winnings against each other in racing competitions.
Thanks for your patience, and if you need to email me off list, my

I'm wondering, would anyone be interested in learning the more competetive
aspects of street fighter, and how to improve your game? I don't claim to be
a master player, but Yohandy and myself are both quite proficient. At least
yohandy is. Don't know about me. But such stuff would include stuff like how
to use your focuss attacks, the different combo types in SF, and character
tips. Would anyone be interested? Because such a conference, over something
like team talk or skype could work, if enough people are interested. What do
you guys think? I'd be more than happy to teach what little I know, and I'm
sure Yohandy would be too.

This is an awesome idea man! I actually considered this a while back, but
never thought people would show interest. I'm excited to realize that I was
wrong about this and people really seem to like the idea. you guys have no
clue what you're missing with some of these mainstream games until you
actually start playing and experimenting. Where street fighter games are
concerned, I consider the games totally accessible. I say this with complete

confidence, as I've completed all trials for both Super and vanilla SF4 with

no sighted assistance and gotten my platinum trophies. You'll need a bit of
patience especially if you've never played mainstream games to really start
getting how things work, but trust me it's not hard at all if you're willing

to learn. Clement, you had any particular day in mind when we should do
this? and when are those folks interested available? I can't wait to get

Re: [Audyssey] Dragon Realms and Simutronics

2010-07-27 Thread Brice Mellen
Hahaha, I play that game still, it's very in depth and I can tell you how to
log in.

First off, you need firfox, then go to www.play.net/dr and make sure you
have wizard selected as your client. Then all you have to do is hit go play,
and it will ask if you wanna download a file. Save it wherever and then go
open it in notepad.
Once in notepad go to the very bottom of the file their it will have a key,
copy the key and then open vipmud.
One more thing too, I forgot to mention but I guess it sort of pertains to
this. Once you have vipmud open creat your entry and the address to the
server is also in the file with the key.
After that you need to click on your character and open it like usual and
then paste the key in the entry box and hit enter, and immediately after
that, type FE/JAVA just how I wrote it with the capps and bingo your in.
Once in type find pfanston and he will help you with anything you need help
with, just tell him gempig sent you. He has scripts for vipmud for traveling
around I also have them too if you want them. He's a master script creator
lol.
If you have any questions about it you can shoot me an email.

the lane. I just throw a nice hook ball from there. I think that I had
seven strikes in one game. But I do not want to just guess at the spares.
So I only play with sighted help.

May I ask what kind of scores you get and what is your average?

I have now bowled 21 games against 1, 2 or 3 other bowlers. I have won 17
of those games. My average is now 161.95. With 3401 total points in the 21

- Original Message -
Hi Jim,
There is that. Using the Wii motion remotes are much more realistic in
playing any of the Sports Resorts games. They are all more or less
accessible on their own, but getting through that start up screen is
practically impossible from a blind user's point of view. I've never
been able to get through those initial screens without sighted help
either. However, once the games are actually started I can do pretty
well and hold my own against a sighted player.
It's too bad Nintendo didn't put more thought into there startup
screens as games for Play Station, PSP, XBox are more user friendly as
you can memorize where things are and they have sounds to let you know
where you are in the menus for the most part. I wish Nintendo would
have just put in a basic menu like that in the Wii Sports Resorts
games.

if you are right handed and on the left side if you are left handed. Also
in the Resorts version flipping your wrist will give you a nice hook or
backup ball. The Resorts version is what I have been playing in our
community room, but I was very confused when first starting my new WII
system with the first WII Sports version.

Tonight in my apartment I bowled a 186, 144 and 158. So that kept my

I find the bowling in Sports Resorts more realistic and easier. That is I
am used to starting on the right side of the lane and my ball curving to the

good for me and my ball always curving to the right was just wrong.

But yeah, thanks, I just wish that I had sighted help more often. I

Yeah, all hand-held pokemon games are accessible. Can play them with no
sighted help, but, you won't be able to read the story. But I'll summarize
for you, random main kid character starts off on quest catches pokemon and
fights all the jim leaders, then he makes it to the elite 4 and beats them,
the end. I have a gameboy advance emulator and a Nintendo DS emulator, and
also you can play pokemon stadium, so if you decide to play the red blue,
yellow, silver, gold, or crystal games, I'll give you my n64 emulator and
pokemon stadiums 1 and 2 as well.
Simms however, is not an accessible game at all, and as far as I know there
is no accessible simms game. But don't hold me to that, I've been wrong
before.
If you want that stuff just let me know. Hope I'm not breaking any rules by
giving emulators, please tell me if I am and I won't mention emulators on
this list again.

Re: [Audyssey] Types of RPG Games

2010-05-06 Thread Brice Mellen
Here are my thoughts, I think that text games are definitely awesome and
despite all the new stuff out I think more people play them then you think.
On Dragonrealms there are quite a few people on at all times. Now don't get
me wrong, I love dragonrealms it's a very awesome text based game and I pay
14 bucks a month and I have 2 accounts so times that by 2 and I'm also
thinking of upgrading tp premium which then I would be pay 40 bucks a month
just for one account. But I think it's worth it because of all the stuff you
can do on that game, you want bloody, gory, fantasy, real life, and more
just play dragonrealms.
But then again I keep going back to the sounds and whatnot games, this is my
problem with text based games, their too repetitive. Basically I get tired
of listen to constant streams of text and most of it repeats or otherwise,
but that's pretty much my only problem with them. But with games like final
fantasy and xeno gears/saga, I'm sorry but no matter what you do you won't
compete with them. Xeno gears was a positively awesome game up to the point
where the game I borrowed from my friend froze and I couldn't beat the last
boss (I was very angry). And Final fantasy is pretty much the king of all
rpgs for the time being. To compete with htem you would have to be a multi
millionaire with staff and developers at hand. Just not possible, but a 2000
or 3000 dollar project I would support definitely, I would donate to you if
you really decided to be serious about creating a game of that level.
Personally, I find entombed a little to confining sometimes. Stuck in that
dungeon and all, other then that it's a really awesome and fun game, and
it's also the beginning of the new age of blind accessible rpgs in my
opinion.
So, if you wanna make it or decide you have my support, I can't wait til a
game of that caliber comes out.

Subject: [Audyssey] Types of RPG Games

Hello gamers,
As many of you might remember several months ago I began designing a
gamebook style roll playing game called Legends of Etherea. When I
originally drafted the plans for the game it was to be a text based
gamebook adventure system very much in the spirit of Dungeons and
Dragons using similar rules, classes, races, etc. While the game's
story and map isn't yet complete it was going to have various towns,
cities, forests, and dungeons to explore. However, over the past
couple of months I am growing concerned that this style of game isn't
something that would do well financially. Especially, since the
release of Entombed.
Basically, what I am aiming at is over the last few years graphical
roll playing games like Final Fantasy and Xenogears have become hugely
successful titles all but making the old text based interactive
fiction systems that I personally like seam like a joke to most
mainstream gamers. Now, I'm beginning to see the same thing happening
more or less to the accessible games market as well. It is like why
bother playing text based roguelike games like Nethack or ADOM when
you can start up Entombed and wander around a dungeon doing basically
the same thing complete with Sapi support, sounds, and music. I can't
help but feel that Entombed has just raised the expectations of any
new and future roll playing games to new heights. Its like who would
pay $35 for a text only roll playing game when you can purchase
Entombed for $40 which comes complete with sounds, music, Sapi
support, etc. It makes the idea of writing and selling text only roll
playing games seam laughable. So I can't help but feel like the time
for text based games of any kind have just gone the way of the
dinosaur.
Earlier tonight when I was going through my e-mail there was a post
from Michael on the Heroes of Ardania thread. He asked if the game
came complete with sounds and music. That really got me thinking about
my own project. It seams that justabout everyone now expects sounds,
music, and if the player is sighted, killer graphics, to make a game
worth their time. Otherwise the game is considered to be inferior to
the games with graphics and sounds. So the question is how many of you
still actually like text based games like me, and how many would be
willing to pay for such a game?
understand I'm not necessarily against games like Entombed, I could
create something like that, of course, but I also have a good idea how
financially and emotionally exhausting such a title would be to me
personally. It would take ten times longer and be ten times harder to
create just because I'd have to purchase more sound packs, license
music, program all the extra code for sound, speech, menus, whatever.
So I don't know that I'm up for anything that complicated at the
moment, but I could do it if it were more financially successful. So
I'd like to hear your thoughts. What do you

Um how can you play ff13 totally blind? And on a ps3 no doubt with much
huger and more 3d environments, did you get their your self or did you have
some sighted help? I wanna know cause I've been wanting that game since it's
been out, but I don't have any sighted friends here to help me get through
it so I didn't bother.

Hey dark,

Since you and your brother play Final Fantasy 13, I was wondering what
chapter you were on?

I wonder if your brother has Beaton it already? THing is, being totally
blind, I got to chapter 6; that's where I am now, and the enemies are
starting to get quite hard. No, I haven't yet died if I really pay attention
to paradigms, but the battles with this certain enemy are longer than they
have to be. A walkthrough I have been listening to it's shorter.

The walkthrough is at gameanyone.com.

Just wanted to know your brothers progress.

Thanks.

Hehehe well you could actually do that with dragonrealms and vipmud if you
wanted to put the time and effort in to doing that, but that is a Mud so
it's online. So you can actually talk to other real people too. Besides all
the huge massive amount of stuff there is to do on that game.

Hi Mikle,
If you really want a game like that, I'll suggest you'll have to create one
by using BGT. You can find it at.

But that's a game that I'm trying to trigger. And when I'm bothered, then
I'll do it. Its going to be a dayly life game. Um, sorry not city attack,

will thomas what i mean is have the story text base stuff but give the
player many options to do stuff like go to town or go to the forrest.
and when you are in the town you could have it give more options like go to
shop or talk to people and if you have choose to talk to people it could
give you options aswell like talk to a kid or talk to guard.
and if you talk to someone they could give you task if you choose to do one.
or you could get different items or have them team up with you.
you see it would be a text base gaem but have the feel like real time.

Re: [Audyssey] Fighting Games (Number Notation?)

2010-01-22 Thread Brice Mellen
Well, it depends on what fighting game your looking up moves for, usually 2
is down 4 is back up is 8 and forward is 6, and then it usually works the
same for the other side of the controller, but if it's a fighting game for
the computer, then I couldn't help you their, this is for console fighters.

Hey all,

I was looking at a move list, and as well as standard notation, it had
number notation as well like with the buttons being represented as 1-9.

I guess this is for the people who have the fighting joysticks? Was trying
to understand it and well I knew that forward is 6, 2 is down, but I'm
wondering what 1-3 and 7-9 are?

Yeah, I won't buy mk vs dc, I refuse, cause it's not a mk game I don't care
how fun it is. That's just my opinion though, another game ya might wanna
check out that just came out is dragonball raging blast, very fun game. Also
tekken 6 and soul caliber 4 are fun too. Unfortunately for rpgs their isn't
any too accessible right now for the ps3 that I know of, but if you do have
a sighted friend and you both wanna sit down and play you can enjoy one
together cause I'm sure there are some out and you would be able to do the
fighting on them, you would just have to have your sighted friend move you
around. I used to do it all the time, I was better at the fighting and the
setting up of the characters so, it was fun for both of us. I played final
fantasy 7 like 5 times and beat it all 5, currently my characters are quite
invincible on that game.

doubt we'll be able to play it at all. what level of accessibility are you

need to at least memorize menus and such, but many are playable, especially

I recently bought a PS3 console. Originally I bought it for the

I love board and card games, and would love a role-playing game that I

I'm willing to try other types of games as well.

 Does anyone have any suggestions?

Re: [Audyssey] hey what games if any are accessible with the we?

2010-01-18 Thread Brice Mellen
Unless you're a pro at keeping your hand steady and in the same place
everytime memorizing the placement of the menus won't help because you might
hold the controller in a different spot the next time and that thing is
delicate like I said in another post I spent 2 hours trying to find the menu
option on the screen so I could start playing my game. Wii Sports resort is
pretty much accessible once you get in to it, cause you can arrow around the
options, just memorize where they are, you don't need any help with the
bowling really except for on the second frame of each game so some can tell
you where to move to hit your pins. Basketball on the wii resort game is all
accessible as is the frisby and sword fighting, also canoeing is fun too.
Another game you might check out, again already seaid this once, is
dragonball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3, the menus talk and it's a 3d fighting
game, so it's fun plus you have to use the motion sensor to do their special
moves and such, all that takes is someone reading it to you a couple of
times, eventually you can play that game pretty independently with no help
whatsoever including the online play. But if you are going for completely
accessible for the most part then don't get a wii, get a ps3 or a 360 ast
your preference, personally, I prefer ps3 because in the end it has the
better processor, better graphic, better gameplay, and most importantly,
better sound. Plus the online play on ps3 is free and you have to pay for
xbox live.

Our sighted 10 year old son enjoys having us play games on the Wii with
 him,
but I get frustrated because with bowling, for instance, as you mentioned,
 I
don't know which pins are still standing, and Deven has to aim for me so I
can have a shot at knocking down the rest. We play Wii sports with him
sometimes because it makes him happy, but I get easily frustrated playing
games where someone has to do practically everything for me except the
movements. So perhaps there are other Wii games more accessible for
completely blind players. The boxing one is kind of fun because some of
 the
sounds alert you to which player is getting their butt kicked, and once
 the
round begins you just do your best to box all areas of your opponent's
 body.

I've heard some game reviews about this game console that said that the
games are accessible, only to find out that the games cannot be accurately
played. For example, how can you tell what pins remain standing after you
roll your first ball in bowling? How do you know where to aim on any
 shot?
I don't want to guess or to have a pretty good idea. I want to actually
know, before I bowl, what I am aiming at, and where it is. The same goes
for tennis or any of the other games. I want skill, not luck, to be the
determining factor in how well I play. As far as that goes, I want this
 in
 any game I play.

Thomas,

I'm no stranger to RPG's, and I fully realize that there is a difference
between Final Fantasy (you'll never sell me on Zelda being an RPG) and a
rogue-like such as Entombed. I do think, however, that Entombed is being
sold short long before the full game is even brought to fruition.

There is no doubt in my mind that Jason's release is going to bring about a
whole new style of gaming that the blind community has never seen before.
Just the demo he has released contains perhaps 100 hours of possible play.
When the dungeon more than quadruples in size, he adds in new classes, new
races, and more dungeon branches, that figure is going to increase
exponentially.

Just because Entombed isn't a story-driven game doesn't diminish its
complexity. I think what people will find when they really explore the game
is that Entombed fills the long-vacant RPG genre in the blind community and
does it quite nicely.

Not to mention the fact that Jason has stated that should Entombed do well,
he plans to create a huge expansion with an overworld, multiple locations,
etc.

Hi Ryan,
As a roguelike RPG game Entombed is fine as far as it goes. However,
what I was refering to is a full blown RPG like Sryth complete with
character interactions, several towns/villages, several different kinds
of adventures, several different monster classes, etc. It is a lot of
programming and quite a lot of sound effects if you are trying to create
a complete game world like Sryth as a live action audio game.
Even a rather simple RPG game like Legend of Zelda is a pretty large
undertaking. Even in Zelda there are character interactions in some of
the overworld areas. Not to mention perhaps a few cutscenes would fill
in the storyline better.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] The future of Blastbay Studios

2010-01-16 Thread Brice Mellen
Yeah, Zelda is an rpg, you have to talk to people, get quests, and go
through dungeons, the only difference between it an other rpgs is that it
has puzzles and instead of being turn based you have to actually fight. It
is actually more in the genre of God of War, but not quite, it's still holds
more of an rpg element then anything.

Actually even in the mainstream industry Legend of Zelda is considered a
form of RPG. It's not in the traditional sense with turn-based combats, but
it is considered what's generally referred to as an Action/RPG or
Adventure/RPG. And when you look on a lot of gaming sites the RPG section is

where you'll often find the Zelda games listed.
Homer: Hey, uh, could you go across the street and get me a slice of pizza?

 Thomas,

I'm no stranger to RPG's, and I fully realize that there is a difference
between Final Fantasy (you'll never sell me on Zelda being an RPG) and a
rogue-like such as Entombed. I do think, however, that Entombed is being
sold short long before the full game is even brought to fruition.

There is no doubt in my mind that Jason's release is going to bring about
 a
whole new style of gaming that the blind community has never seen before.
Just the demo he has released contains perhaps 100 hours of possible play.
When the dungeon more than quadruples in size, he adds in new classes, new
races, and more dungeon branches, that figure is going to increase
 exponentially.

Just because Entombed isn't a story-driven game doesn't diminish its
complexity. I think what people will find when they really explore the
 game
is that Entombed fills the long-vacant RPG genre in the blind community
 and
 does it quite nicely.

Not to mention the fact that Jason has stated that should Entombed do
 well,
he plans to create a huge expansion with an overworld, multiple locations,
 etc.

 Hi Ryan,
As a roguelike RPG game Entombed is fine as far as it goes. However,
what I was refering to is a full blown RPG like Sryth complete with
character interactions, several towns/villages, several different kinds
of adventures, several different monster classes, etc.

 Cheers!

If you like those massively multiplayer online shooting games then get an

Realms with vipmud or similar clients.

Hi there.

I am resending this message from earlier today, since I don't think it went
through because I forgot to trim the message. grin

Here you go.

Hi there.

In fact, it indeed works. I just did it about three minutes ago, and I will
log on again very soon.

Here is what I did.

I logged onto dragonrealms.net and signed up for an account.

After getting my account, and logging back into the site, including hitting
that go play button. I was brought into the initial screen for my account
wich has a group of radio buttons , which allow you to start a new character
or choose your character, , and then it presents a group of radio buttons
that gives you the choice for picking the wizard front end and a few other
ones. I choose the wizard front end radio button, and hit enter on the go
play! button.

Now, since I have active X disabled for this site in IE and firefox, rather
than launching the wizard client, a page comes up and says

Preparing to launch DragonRealms Trial for the Wizard FE. If your game does
not start automatically,

I right click on the link that says click here, and a choose save link as in
FireFox or save target as if you are using IE.

My character's name is galphner, so the filename is galphner.sal

Once the file is saved, you will want to open the .sal file in notepad.

Here is part of the contents of the one I just saved

UPPORT=5535
GAME=WIZ
GAMECODE=DR
FULLGAMENAME=Wizard_Front_End
GAMEFILE=WIZARD.EXE
GAMEHOST=prime.dr.game.play.net
GAMEPORT=4901
KEY=ba247ea0ffaf8c1529ae40e9693da03b

You will want to make special note of the gamehost gameport and key entries.
You will want to copy your key to the clipboard. In other words, copy
everything to the right of the equals sign in the line that begins with key=
If memory serves, the key will expire within fifteen minutes of generation,
so you will want to be quick when you save the file and then run vipmud or
your client of choice.

So you would fill out your game host as prime.dr.game.play.net
and your port as 4901

When you connect to the gameHost, it will act like you are connected to a
blank connection. THis is where you paste your key that you copied to the
clipboard int your mud client and press enter

You then want to type, all in caps, the words
FE/JAVA
and press enter.

You should be in and playing at that point.

I just logged in, and am now playing dragonrealms with vipmud.

Jeremy

Hi list.
I was wondering, does anyone have any experience of using a program called
art money for cheating in games?
for example you could use it to give you unlimited health.

basically it allows you to search the programs memory for particular values
you are interested in and then change them accordingly in memory.

when I have completed a game, I use a program called game cheater which does

the same thing as art money, as it can be fun some times.
however game cheater is quite old now and compared to the features art money

offers I believe is quite limited, also it doesn't appear to have been
undergoing any development for several years.

I installed art money, and had a bit of a look at it with jaws and window
eyes but it doesn't seem very accessible at all.
I am sure some time back I saw a post on the audiogames.net forum from
someone who used art money,
but I was just wondering if anyone on list had managed to have more luck
with art money than me or are we stuck with out dated game cheater, I will
probably post this to the audiogames.net forum as well.

Hi Bryan,
Definitely. A full blown RPG like Xeno Gears or Final Fantasy would take
years to complete. Mysteries of the Ancients is a much simpler game in
design and it took me two years to get the basic engine written and
stable enough for play. True, I had some recent setbacks such as the
bugs with Managed DirectX forcing me to basically adopt a new
engine/design, but the basic point is with only one or two man
operations a game of any serious complexity takes lots of time and
patients.
I've been thinking of doing some sort of RPG game, but the time involved
with such a project is staggering. Even a straight text based game like
Sryth is rather complex and time consuming. Something more like Final
Fantasy is unthinkable for a single person to do unless he/she plans to
put five years or more into that project. Then, when it comes out what
should the developer charge for that work. Certainly not $20 for a game
like that. Try at leas $50 or $60 considering the time and effort
involved. Then, of course people will scream and complain about the
price.

Sorry to say but no matter what you guys do people will always find a way to
cheat, it can't be helped. But I don't think we should get on peoples cases
who want to cheat, maybe they do it out of enjoyment of being immortal for a
while. In my case I cheat when I have beat the game to see what else I can
do, or find or whatever, sometimes a all items coe will bring up an item in
your inventory you didn't even know existed and that would give you what you
needed to go online look it up, or try to find it your self in the game. The
only way you would be able to stop it is if you all started making mmo rpgs
where you store all your characters info on a server that can't be hacked in
to why do you think people can't cheat in ff or WoW, and even then I'm sure
there are people that have found a way to cheat in those games as well.

I mean I had to look up some cheats to finish some text adventure games,

 it?

Heck I have never even built any cheats into any of my games. I just

 Hi there.

Well, I was just about to send a message with instructions on how to use
simutronics games with vipmud, since I posted about this a few months ago.

Unfortunately, I seem to no longer have a play.net account, which is where
dragonrealms and gemstone IV are located! grin

But anyway, here is a copy of a message I sent to the list regarding
 logging
into gemstone IV with vipmud. I know the question is regarding
dragonrealms, but I am sure that other than the difference in host names,
the instructions would be the same.

The below message talks about logging into the website as if you were
going to login with the Wizard client. What you will want to do though is

download the .sal file that comes up when you click on the go play link.
The only way I was able to download this .sal file without Internet
explorer trying to launch the wizard front end, was to use fire fox. That

is why in the below message, I refer to firefox. You could probably stop
the wizard frontend from launching if you disable active X for the
 dragonrealms.net site.

Use the below at your own risk. Beings that it is the Christmas Holiday,
I will be away from my computer for most of the next few days.

I would suggest that you do a search in the play.net forums regarding
logging in with a telnet client, that was where I originally got the
 instructions.

Basicly, what you will need to do is get the userKey from the .sal file of

your character. This is how simutronics keeps people from logging in for
 free.

When you use vipmud to connect to whatever the host and port are, you will

not see anything when you connect. This is normal. You will need to
paste in the user key into vipmud's window and press enter. Again, you
will see or hear nothing. You then want to type FE/JAVA all in caps as
shown and press enter. You should then be good to go.

Again, this is for gemstone IV but it will work with whatever dragonrealms

 uses as their host.

Rest assured, Simutronics muds including dragon realms can be played with
vipmud, at least, they could be played a few months ago. grin

 Jeremy
 Begin message.

Ok, I managed to just get into gemstone iv with VipMud. What I had to do
was use firefox to log into my account. When I clicked the go play
 button,
a page came up saying that if my browser didn't launch using active x to
click here. When I did, firefox brought a file save dialog with my
character's .sal file, ie, grogrond.sal. I then saved it to disc, and
opened it in notepad, and copied the key to the clipboard, and used the
 host
of prime.gs4.game.play.net and the port of 4900 entered into the host and
port sections in vipMud. Then, I pasted the key from the clipboard and
 hit
enter. I then typed FE/JAVA and hit enter. And I am now in!

Yeah, I can see where the programmer comes from on that standpoint,
especially after the hard work put in to the game. Lol don't worry I only
cheat on console games anyways.

Hello there,

In prinsiple I agree with you that nothing is unhackable, but in this case
there is actually a fairly bulletproof method of preventing values from
being changed when they are not meant to be. Game cheater, for instance, is
out of action in 10 seconds and the same goes for any other memory modifying

application. In order to get around this you'd have to do some serious
disassembling of the program and the moment that is done, the license
agreement is void and the user will have forfitted all their rights.

If the developer deliberatly adds cheat codes to a game that is one thing,
but modifying the memory of the program to get advantages is just plain
wrong in my mind.

Kind regards,

Philip Bennefall

Sorry to say but no matter what you guys do people will always find a way
 to
cheat, it can't be helped. But I don't think we should get on peoples
 cases
who want to cheat, maybe they do it out of enjoyment of being immortal for

 a
while. In my case I cheat when I have beat the game to see what else I can
do, or find or whatever, sometimes a all items coe will bring up an item
 in
your inventory you didn't even know existed and that would give you what
 you
needed to go online look it up, or try to find it your self in the game.
 The
only way you would be able to stop it is if you all started making mmo
 rpgs
where you store all your characters info on a server that can't be hacked
 in
to why do you think people can't cheat in ff or WoW, and even then I'm
 sure
there are people that have found a way to cheat in those games as well.

I as well will be following in Philip's footsteps to protect against
this. If nothing else to annoy everyone who uses these cheater
 programs.

 Hi Liam,

Yeah, and what fun would it be to use total cheats to play a game?

I mean I had to look up some cheats to finish some text adventure games,
but using a program to change points etc in a game while you're playing
 it?

Heck I have never even built any cheats into any of my games. I just
wouldn't have any fun if I could just cheat to win or finish the game.

Yeah, they changed the go play from a link to a button. So, I don't know if
this will work the same.

I noticed in your message you said you typed Fe/JAVA with the e in FE being
in lowercase. You want it all to be in caps FE/JAVA in all uppercase.
