Re: [Audyssey] Eamon crash fixed!

2008-12-09 Thread dark

Hi tom.

I actually know nothing at all about nvda, --- accept that it's supposed to
work with doss.

To be honest I've used Hal for literally 14 years now, so prefer to use it
if i can, but that's certainly no reason not to ignore something else that
could be helpful in certain situations.

As I said to steven, all Eamon issues are fixed for me now and I can play
the games fine with Hal, though I hesitate about writing up a page for
Eamon delux to audiogames.net, sinse I'm stil moderately concerned how
people who cannot see the text highlighting in menues will be able to deal
with the game without mucking about with screen readers getting text colour
announced (which could be extremely clunky and annoying).

Btw, --- if I'm worrying over nothing here, and there's an obvious work
around, please let me know.

Re: [Audyssey] Eamon crash fixed!

2008-12-09 Thread dark

Hi Steven.

I'm actually not sure whether there was anything else to find in the
alternate beginners cave, or whether I'd actually been through everything
there was to do, sinse when I finally retraced my steps and the girl
followed me I did at least get a vague reward in terms of gold and a kiss.

I'm only guessing the power spell because i didn't have it at the time,
while I've slightly tweaked things in my favour with the character editer, I
haven't gone overboard, or given myself anything a starting character
couldn't have

You can look inside the bas files and various data files if you are having
a hard time trying to solve an adventure, though it tends to spoil the
fun, so dont just give up and peek inside unless you are really really
stuck.
The beginners cave adventure must have been done in a bit of a rush,
there's not much to do apart from kill things and collect treasure, once
you've collected all the treasure and killed all the enemies, there's
nothing to do but to retrace your steps back to the entrance where you can
leave the adventure and sell all your items to get more gold.

Secondly, in both of the beginners cave scenarios i played thus far, I

temple where I'd killed the priest and got an indifferent reaction from
the girl, so never found out if she was a sacrifice or not.

I then just had to turn around, and completely retrace my steps.

In the original beginners cave adventure that wasn't too bad, but when I
tried the advanced beginners cave, that took quite a while,
though as there was a welded shut door to a castle I couldn't enter or
indeed interact with, and I didn't at that stage have the power spell,
that might have just been my character.

That can be changed by editing some .bas files in the package, though
I've not investigated which ones because the highlighting problem
does not happen with my configuration

it's a 40 column display. That's why your screenreader can't
handle it properly.

There are some changes you'll need to make to one of the bas files.
edit the file eamondx.bas and search for the following line of text

SCREEN 0: WIDTH 40: CLS : COLOR 4, 0
Change it to:
SCREEN 0: WIDTH 80: CLS : COLOR 4, 0

Re: [Audyssey] Eamon crash fixed!

2008-12-08 Thread Stephen
Can you elaborate on what exactly is fixed? do my changes stop the
text from being chopped off at the end, or does it fix the crash?

Thanks.

it's a 40 column display.

2008-12-08 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Dark,
Have you tried using a screen reader other than Hal? You might want to
try something like NVDA just for comparison. I am rather fond of NVDA
and use it a lot these days.
