Hi Lisa, Difficulty 9 is the easiest and 0 the hardest. You should be able to beat the game on 9. It is some luck and some using a good search of the grid. Luck in finding the ships as well as the bad luck of the computer finding your ships. I am not positive if placing your ships in any certain manner might be able to confuse the computer player as it tries to sink your ships after finding them. I hope that might help.
