Re: [Audyssey] Other baseball computer games.

2009-05-12 Thread Gary Whittington
Well, Jermy, as you noted the Game needed to be played in your CD Rom is
very True.
playing this game back in the 90's, I can say, that the game well go
through CD Rom players.
That was the only fault in the game. Also to not that gamers will need to
upgade to 5.5 to get any recetnly roster disk.

Qustion on edit players. AS you wil find on
playball.ws that I had Schmitz traveling back in time.
The original Miller main game did come with a Encyclopedia.
Here you could any season from the past.

Also, to let you know I just recently wrote to APBA and there still no word
on the release of v6.

And no word if this game is going to be blind accessible.
While the version 5 had a few graphics that need labeled during game play,
as you have mentioned the ease of using the game options for on field play,
is only a matter of hot keys, but its those graphics that do the same job
with mouse clicks.
Also, the Jaws configus I had wrote for this game does the same for the on
field game play. To show the runners on base and other info with frames.

But for realizim Strat is the hand down winner.
AS I find young blind games favor the Hardwell voice and is a good place to
learn about Computer Baseball sims.

APBA started out as the All Star GaseBall board game with its spinner.
While Start-O-Matic was dice driven.
The Start game still uses the dice while the ABPA uses the common
Squeeze average system. Smiles losing their spinner, in effect for the
video baseball system.

I am not trying to make arguments here for one or the other, just putting
the facts out there, as you may or may not know.

I could go in more detail on how strat man hours go into researching box
scores to see how batters, if they get more pop up to the infield or
outfield.
Where video games and like ABPa don't consider, but but only with the stats
and a few ratings.

Not caring if a pitcher is a ground ball pitcher or a fly ball pitcher.

So, I yes, indeed if this is your first look at a computer Baseball sim,
then Baseball Blast is your game, its wonderful with is sounds and voice
play by play.
But when your ready to manage like a Pro manager its Strat and its many
options of just how you want to reply your season.

Hello. I would strongly advise looking at that website I gave you for
more details than I can give you in a quick mailing.
I will answer your questions on list, just in case others are also
wondering.

There is no career mode so-to-speak, meaning that you can not play more
than one season and have them accumulate for years. However, they have
what are called season discs and again, I suggest going to the website to
see which season discs and team discs are available. It also has a
schedule maker for playing things like regular seasons and world serieses,
playoffs, etc.

There is no trial period for the game, since it runs off of the cd-rom,
due to all the sound files for commentary. But I assure you, it is
accessible as far as menus and that are concerned. I warn you that during
the game you will have to use the jaws or window-eyes or Hal cursors to do
things like put in relief pitchers and change player positions, but again,
it is all right there on the screen.

You can indeed edit rosters, player names, and team names.

And, in case you lost the info, the website is at
http://www.apbagames.com/stadium/games/software/baseball/bbw/bbw55.html

Hello.

Besides the stratomatic baseball game, there is an older game called Apba
Broadcast Blast, put out by Apba. They still sell it at
http://www.apbastadium.com and the game is called baseball for windows.
They are apparently making a new version, but no new announcements have
been coming out for the last two years or so.

The cool thing about this game is that it is completely voiced by Ernie
Harwell, including all names. What they do is have a database of several
thousand names on the cd-rom, and even if a team or player is represented
by one letter due to copyrights etc, the names are still in the database,
and you can rename the players or teams as needed. As you may guess,
do to all the files, the game must be run from the cd-rom each time, but
it is very quick in spite of that. . Lol.

In other news, there may be some baseball games and other sports games
coming sometime in the very very distant future. If a certain someone
with the initials of J H learns programming enough to do so. But right
now, this J H person is quietly learning all he needs to in order to make
something of high quality, and will say no more at this time. grin

Hi Dennis,
I remember the World Series Baseball game as I worked with Harry on
the

game.
It would take quite a while to do a Windows version as it can not be
created with a game engine and probably would need to be coded from
scratch.
It would have to be voiced with SAPI as it contains hundreds of
player's

names.
Right now there is a commercial version of a similar game called
Strat-O-Matic baseball simulator,
but I think it costs about $70.

For those who don't know, Harry developed WSBB over a 15 year period
starting as a GW basic program and increased in complexity each year.
You play as both team managers and could play against a friend but
only on

the same computer.

Hi.

The Apba game is strictly a baseball season and team management game.
However, you can make decisions about when to take a pitch, swing away,
bunt, hit and run, and other baseball decisions.

[Audyssey] Other baseball computer games. Was Re: harry hollinsworth world series game

2009-05-07 Thread Jeremy Hartley

Hello.

Besides the stratomatic baseball game, there is an older game called Apba
Broadcast Blast, put out by Apba. They still sell it at
http://www.apbastadium.com and the game is called baseball for windows.
They are apparently making a new version, but no new announcements have been
coming out for the last two years or so.

The cool thing about this game is that it is completely voiced by Ernie
Harwell, including all names. What they do is have a database of several
thousand names on the cd-rom, and even if a team or player is represented by
one letter due to copyrights etc, the names are still in the database, and
you can rename the players or teams as needed. As you may guess, do to
all the files, the game must be run from the cd-rom each time, but it is
very quick in spite of that. . Lol.

In other news, there may be some baseball games and other sports games
coming sometime in the very very distant future. If a certain someone with
the initials of J H learns programming enough to do so. But right now, this
J H person is quietly learning all he needs to in order to make something of
high quality, and will say no more at this time. grin

Hi Dennis,
As there are several baseball games available right now, it would be
unlikely that I would want to spend the time to do another.
If a legitimate programmer wanted to do an updated game I would be willing
to help them.

Hi Dennis,
I remember the World Series Baseball game as I worked with Harry on the
game.
It would take quite a while to do a Windows version as it can not be
created with a game engine and probably would need to be coded from
scratch.
It would have to be voiced with SAPI as it contains hundreds of player's
names.
Right now there is a commercial version of a similar game called
Strat-O-Matic baseball simulator,
but I think it costs about $70.

For those who don't know, Harry developed WSBB over a 15 year period
starting as a GW basic program and increased in complexity each year.
You play as both team managers and could play against a friend but only

2009-05-07 Thread Charles Rivard
Seeing as the subject line is other baseball games, I still think that Jim
Kitchen's is the best. I like it because it takes skill, rather than
statistically based strategy to play it. You decide what pitch to throw,
and, in the other half of the inning, you have to decide when, or whether
to, swing at the approaching ball. It is more like actually being a player
than managing others.
