Re: [Audyssey] Questions about BGT Competition

2013-03-06 Thread shaun everiss

well phill I do dabble and its easier to use modules that are avalible to you.
I guess if you make it more fair, the modules people must use are
their own, so if they don't have it already to use and its not their
own they can't use it.
However you could allow teams of coders so to make it fair people
that don't can join a team and code with someone that has the modules
and can share within the team.
On that note its a pitty competitions couldn't be like multiplayer
games where teams battle it out to get the best game.

but I think there will always bee cheating and this is standard practice.
I guess you could allow modules from established devs to be used to
make it more fair for indeviduals, even previde links to official
modules already out there for the competition.
however you probably want to discourage hacked modules by others
that are not already out because of the disadvantaging others facter.
Obviously stuff released during competition couldn't be used but
before could be fair enough.

Hi Thomas,

the issue of code reuse that was discussed on the audiogames.net

reuse is that people who are already experienced with the engine and
have collected a lot of utility classes and the like, will be able
to make a significantly larger and more complex game in the timespan
of the competition. But this is also the major argument against
allowing this. If people are to compete on equal grounds, it makes
sense to restrict the amount of permissible preexisting code to a
level that makes it as fair as possible for everyone while not
reinventing the wheel. In the discussion, there were voices both for
and against. If I can reach a decision regarding this that most
people find acceptable, then there's no doubt I'll be running
another competition (probably within a month or two).

Hi all,

I suppose this question is mainly for Philip, but I figured most of
you might be interested in discussing this too so thought I'd ask this
publicly on list.

Over the last couple of months or so I've been playing around with
BGT, and I am strongly considering purchasing it for my own game
development. However, I remember a couple of months ago Philip
mentioning possibly running another BGT competition. If so I don't
want to pay for BGT only to find out that he is running a competition
and I had a chance to win a copy for free.. So will there be a BGT
competition this year, and if so when?

Cheers!

2013-03-06 Thread David Mehler
Hi,

Suggestion, if you have reusable code classes or library files put
them up as zip files. If people in the competition want to use them to
compete, they can, if not that's their choice, but the option is
available.
