Oh God no! you don't need to buy it! smile all you need to do is install the Audio Quake package which you can find at: http://tbrn.net/modgirl/AQ and it will ask you if you would like to download the shareware version of Quake. This allows you to play the first episode in single player, as well as any and all deathmatch versions / mods to such. And yes, it's definitely open source. I have a copy of the Quake source along with aq also posted at the above link, but in the main folder. If you'd like the source for the game engine itself, ZQuake, which is what creates / drives the 3d environment, you can visit the ZQuake homepage or I'll perhaps upload it to my ftp site if there's interest Have an awesome day!... I heard there was a starwars mod for quake. Is this true? Did anyone ever try it? Also can you register the shareware version to play the whole game or not?
