[Audyssey] Understanding the Pinball Concept

2016-04-12 Thread Sharon Hooley
Hi,

With the Blindfold Pinball just announced, I have a question. I've never
played pinball in an accessible way. I only remember continually pressing a
button at a game in a store or mall, my sister urgently commanding "Push push
push!" I think it was Pinball back in the 70's/early 80's. I think I kind of
understand that it involves pushing balls that roll into areas of the machine
that causes different actions, gives points and abilities. But I'm wondering
if I should know anything more?

Thanks for any input,

Re: [Audyssey] Understanding the Pinball Concept

2016-04-12 Thread Charles Rivard
All you need to know is in the instructions that come with the game, in the
"help" section.

A pinball machine is a long rectangular machine with the flippers at the
bottom, nearest you. You launch the ball up toward the top of the machine
with a spring loaded plunger. Gravity takes over. As the ball rolls down
toward you, it hits switches and bumpers, some of which earn you points.
When the ball gets within range of the flippers, you can tell by the sounds
where it is. You hit the flipper, which shoots the ball back up toward the
top, and it begins falling again. The longer you can keep the ball rolling
and bouncing off bumpers and hitting switches, the more points you rack up.
However, between the flipper on the left side and the flipper on the right
side, there is an exit hole. If the ball falls into this hole, that is the
end of your first ball. You start with 3 balls, and will earn an extra ball
if you score 5,000 or more points. That's basically how the game is played.
Although it sounds easy, it is not, but it's a heck of a lot of fun. I
highly suggest that you buy the in-app purchases for this game. They are
really worth the expense.

Thanks, Marty, for a heck of a fun game for our iDevices!!

If you think you're finished, you! really! are! finished!!

Re: [Audyssey] Understanding the Pinball Concept

2016-04-13 Thread dark

Hi Sharren.

The way pinball works is you have a table that inclines away from you. At
the bottom end towards you is the drain, ie, the place where your ball will
go if you don't flip it away, a little like the goal in air hockey. Either
side of the drain are two flippers, which are small flat peaces of metal or
plastic that flick upwards, and can bounce a ball up the table, (though
it'll inevitably roll down).

The table itself is full of mechanical apparatus all designed to change how
the ball moves and get score. There are pads your ball can roll over to
create more score, bumpers to bounce off, spinners that spinn around when
your ball hits them, parts of the table that might lower in order to give
you access to higher scoring areas etc. The object is to bounce your ball
around, making sure it doesn't go down the drain and scoring as much as
possible.

The esp pinball games for the pc from draconis are a wonderful simulation of
pinball and also have great explanations of all the things you can find on
tables, as well as some very funny challenges, I'd highly recommend them.

I've not played the blindfold version for Ios, though I do intend to, sinse
pinball (when you can hear what is happening and track where the ball is
going as in the esp games), is a huge amount of fun.

ESP Pinball Classic

Since the first pinball game was introduced in 1947, people the world over
have had an obsession with making a little silver ball jump all over a
table,
hitting targets and flying up ramps along the way. Pinball has been one of
those true classic arcade games with ongoing appeal to generations old and
young.

While the pinball tables themselves have wildly varied themes, the object
remains the same-score mega points by propelling a steel ball around an
electronic
and mechanical obstacle course, bouncing it off bumpers, flippers, targets,
switches, and gizmos at blazing speeds!

Each theme has it's own obstacles and objectives, sound effects and
ambience, and scoring system. ESP Pinball Classic comes with six completely
differently

themed tables!

. Heist - Shine up your .38 Special and get ready for a heist! Whether it's
diamonds, cold hard cash, or expensive cars this table rakes in the big
bucks!

Great sound effects and lots of bonus jobs on the side!
. Haunted House - Take a stroll through a graveyard to the old haunted
mansion on the hill. Think you're brave enough to spend a night there? It'll
take
more than nerves of steel to rack up every last ghoulish point this table
has to offer! Complete with spooky music and plenty of cobwebs!
. Safari - Welcome to the jungle.. now, go home! That is if you can make it
home! Explore the thick underbrush and jungle ambience while hunting wild
animals
and escaping quicksand. If you've got a sharp aim and don't mind mosquitoes
the size of Jersey, take an adventure in the wilderness with Busher Bob!
. Soccer Star - Take to the stadium field and don't forget your cleats! It's
man against machine on the green in this 'goal'-oriented theme. Each round
is timed and it's either your goal or theirs! Score for points, more time,
and to win! Gatorade not included!
. Wild West - Trade in your pinball for a six-shooter and bullets and take
down the town's sheriff while escaping the law for horse thieving. And,
after
you're done taking out the law, stop in the saloon for an ice cold beer or
brawl with the locals.
. Pac Man - Gobble up points, avoid ghosties, and turn the tables on 'em
with mega power-ups in this pinball rendition of the classic game Pac Man.**

. Great Ambient Sound Effects
. Two Modes of Play: Classic and Accessible
. Two difficulty levels: Normal and Insane
. Fast-Action Game Play
. Cool Music

What's New in Version 1.8.0
. Support for Windows Vista
