Me I have foobar2000 open them if I just press enter. It is configured
to stay in the background so I can go down a list of files in a folder
in windows explorer and whack enter as I go by and it plays immediately.
I can use that to try and pick a good sound, and if I want to open in
gold wave I hit the context key, h, g for open with then gold wave. I
did what you are talking about way back when but I unchecked the
checkbox that says always open this type of file with this program. It
opened that particular one in gold wave but the next time I just hit
enter on a .wav it played it with foobar, however gold wave is now
listed in the open with menu.

Hi Phil,

Yeah, that is how I have my systems set up as well. On Windows I have
wav files open directly up in Goldwave so regardless if I have them in
a special edit folder or I want to open and edit them from a flash
drive they automatically open in Goldwave for me. My Linux
installation is set up in the same way. If I'm on Ubuntu 12.04 all I
have to do is press enter on a wav file and they will open up directly
into Audacity for editing. It makes editing sounds a sinche.

Hi Jim,
I set my default sound player for .wav files to Gold Wave

It opens the file in gold wave and when I'm done editing will save the file
in the same folder.
To do this you need to use the open with selection in the context menu then
browse to gold wave on your computer.
It is not in the list of programs you can use to open sound files.

Hi Thomas,

I'm just curious, where do you keep all of the sound files that you are
working on for a game.

I make a simple folder such as c:\f That way when I need to open a sound
file in Gold Wave after control o it is just c:\f\dung42.wav. Not some
folder several layers deep. I guess that I just don't like to type so
much more than I need to.

Jim
