Hi,
Interesting point you raise there. I believe part of the solution would
be allowing Vipmud to use regular expressions for matching. This might be
straying slightly off topic, but I believe it's important to get the idea
out there anyway. With the right kind of regular expression support you
can ignore those line breaks and match those particular kinds of combat
messages fairly easily. Just a thought, in case anybody with more
programming knowhow than I is reading this or is interested.
Beyond that, lots of text is right. I'm already getting used to it and
don't have a custom forged weapon yet.
Thanks for your insight,
Zack.

On Mon, 2 Aug 2010, Ryan Strunk wrote:

Here's the major problem with that: you really can't have many.

The drawback about running simu games with vipmud is that simu games--at
least in vipmud--break every 80 characters or so. Since they put in that
hard line break, it means your triggers--which themselves depend on line
breaks--won't fire properly.

Example:
Your broadsword lands a devastating hit to the goblin's left leg.

This trigger will work perfectly. No problems, no troubles. You could set up
a trigger based on *devastating hit*, and all would be well. Why
"devastating hit?" Because hits range in scope from grazing to apocalyptic,
and you'll definitely want to know which you're hitting with and which are
hitting you.

However, as you straddle that line between newbie gear and custom-forged
swords, you'll see something like this.

Your gleaming steel broadsword with cross-shaped guard and upswept hilt
lands a devastating
hit to the goblin's left leg.

Big problem there, and there isn't a thing you can do about it. Because the
line break happens right between devastating and hit, your "devastating hit"
trigger won't fire off. You could always trigger just the word
"devastating," but then what happens if that word shows up in some random
description somewhere? It is possible for your character to land a "hard
hit," but if you trigger off "* hard *" then you'll get the trigger sound
every time the pants have been worn by hard use or the road has been packed
hard by centuries of travel.

The other drawback, aside from playing sounds, is that you also won't be
able to properly gag combat text off of anything reliable. When you're
fighting five grass eels, and they're attacking every round alongside you,
and you're trying to keep an eye on your health, something will fall apart.

There is no way, unfortunately, to solve this problem with the mechanics of
vipmud or from within the game. I have read through the documentation more
times than I care to count, I have bugged the hosts in game, and I have
written to David Greenwood about it. If you're set on playing with vipmud,
you will definitely want to get used to lots of text or partial gags.

When I used to play simu games, back before finances dictated otherwise, I
used a plug-in for Zmud that someone had cobbled together. I don't believe I
have a copy lying around anymore, however, and I would rather not name the
developer who designed it lest he get bombarded with emails. If he is
reading this, though, and is interested in picking up the development again,
I'm sure he would find a larger market than he did previously.

I don't mean to rain on your parade with all of this, and I sincerely hope
you can prove me wrong. Simutronics games are some of the deepest and most
advanced muds I have ever played, and I would love nothing more than to see
them made playable with vipmud. However you go, though, good luck.

Best,
Ryan

This trigger will work perfectly. No problems, no troubles. You could set up
a trigger based on *devastating hit*, and all would be well. Why
"devastating hit?" Because hits range in scope from grazing to apocalyptic,
and you'll definitely want to know which you're hitting with and which are
hitting you.

However, as you straddle that line between newbie gear and custom-forged
swords, you'll see something like this.

Your gleaming steel broadsword with cross-shaped guard and upswept hilt
lands a devastating hit to the goblin's left leg.

Best,
Ryan

2010-08-02 Thread Ryan Strunk

It is extremely annoying. Some of us have been bugging David Greenwood for
years to build in Simu support. He's been busy with other projects, though,
so in the meantime, you just have to change keys every time you connect.

Yes, it's annoying as hell but it's also the most crucial part of the thing.
Without that, nothing else flies. As for the FE / JAVA, thing though, I've
been logging on with just the key and skipping the FE part.

One more thing too, I forgot to mention but I guess it sort of

to

server is also in the file with the key.

Hey, thanks for all of this. I just don't understand what you mean by
"create your entry". I seem to remember that you create your

once you're in the game, but I also dimly recall selecting them from a
menu
on play.net. So your instructions here seem a little vague to me.
Can

Hello,

I believe that you could either one, do a script which enters the key
automaticly, or 2. set it in the config of the character, that way you
would not have to enter the key each time, except it does change, then
you have to do it manually all day.

Re: [Audyssey] Dragon Realms and Simutronics

2010-07-31 Thread Zachary Kline

Hi,
Are you following the steps only once? That is, have you managed to
connect at any point before? I imagine the keys eventually expire.
Perhaps you are in the situation where the one you're looking at is out of
date.

I would try again, making sure the file you open is the right one.
Also, this may be obvious, but don't copy the entire line the key is on,
just copy the part after the equals sign.

Hope this helps,
Zack.

 Hi,
For what it's worth, this isn't quite correct. You can use Vipmud to
create the character just fine. Probably the quick connect dialogue will
help first, but the process is essentially the same. There's no need to
download Wizard at all. Just select Create new Character from the website
and do the key and FE/JAVA as normal.
 Best,
 Zack.

Oh yes, well that's what I meant. When you select Wizard and hit Go Play, a

select box opens up with several apps including Notebook. Do you just
select Notebook, or do you select it and hit return? I've done both,
actually, and still nothing is turning up in Notebook when I open it up. I
can't figure out why, since I'm using Firefox and doing everything else you
mention.

Re: [Audyssey] Dragon Realms and Simutronics

2010-07-27 Thread Brice Mellen
Hahaha, I play that game still, it's very in depth and I can tell you how to
log in.

First off, you need firfox, then go to www.play.net/dr and make sure you
have wizard selected as your client. Then all you have to do is hit go play,
and it will ask if you wanna download a file. Save it wherever and then go
open it in notepad.
Once in notepad go to the very bottom of the file their it will have a key,
copy the key and then open vipmud.
One more thing too, I forgot to mention but I guess it sort of pertains to
this. Once you have vipmud open creat your entry and the address to the
server is also in the file with the key.
After that you need to click on your character and open it like usual and
then paste the key in the entry box and hit enter, and immediately after
that, type FE/JAVA just how I wrote it with the capps and bingo your in.
Once in type find pfanston and he will help you with anything you need help
with, just tell him gempig sent you. He has scripts for vipmud for traveling
around I also have them too if you want them. He's a master script creator
lol.
If you have any questions about it you can shoot me an email.

numerous muds, I haven't found anything which rivals "Dragon Realms" in
variety and depth of play.

[Audyssey] Dragon Realms?

2007-08-31 Thread Tj
Hi,

Does anyone here play this game? I'm interested in it, however, don't know
if I really want to play or not. I'm certain you can't play with a regular
cliant, so, was also wondering how this was done.
