I was answering the message below mine, not any prior ones. Thanks.

It didn't sound as though this kid had even had a key. I think he just
wanted a free ride. There was another kid who did something similar several
times not long back, once for SOD and once for Pinball Classic.

I'm sure if the kids would ask their parents maybe their parents would buy

Damon, keep a record of the email address and you shouldn't have a problem like
that.
If you want and this goes for any dev, if you want me to check your game for
basic easy crack proofing, I'm happy to do that.
Stuff like compressing sounds in known archive formats, or putting
gamename-demo and gamename-full on the same site and it being easy to find etc.
Oh and not hiding your testing directory on the site to.

Hm... a game and a car. Two vastly different things... aren't we stretching
this a bit far? *grins* Pff why doesn't somebody obtain the key and send it

future versions?

I don't respond to many of these issues, but just to let you know a
replacement key for my sons car, was going to cost in the region of £100,
just so I would not have to wait around in the rain after work. So my point
here is that a replacement key for a game and a replacement key for other
things can be a vast difference in cost. I do agree that we should take as
much care as possible in keeping game keys safe, but it is not always that
easy. By the way, we did not get the spare key, I just get wet!

Re: [Audyssey] thoughts on game keys - Re: Urgent! pyracy issueforShades of doom

2007-06-06 Thread Charles Rivard
For anyone who thinks it's too much trouble, or that it's difficult, to
prevent having to get another authorization key for games: Making a backup
copy of your game key is simple. Got a brailler and some paper? Slate and
stylus? How about a tape recorder and a blank tape? A CD that you can put
the game executable file and a .txt copy of the game key onto? Really.
It's not that hard, and it's your responsibility, gamers, not the
developers. From what I've seen, the cost of a replacement key for games
isn't all that much, but shouldn't we, as the purchaser, keep the key we
paid for when we bought the game? I think so. I did not back my game keys
up, suffered a hard drive crash, couldn't recover the info, and had to pay
for replacement keys to some of my games. I did not complain, because I
knew who was at fault. Now, I've got 2 sheets of braille paper with keys on
them, and I add a key to the bottom when I get one.

2007-06-06 Thread kerry
how about having a website data base to register on? then you download the
game.
once you installed the game? there should be a registration data base the
gamer connect to, and then he put in his info. and every time he start this
game. a check for the information would go to the site, something like a
computer hand shake.
that's more something like it.
there is one more thing though. laptop users on the go. with me on the go
is cool, I have wireless which is a little device you plug into the u s b
port.
anyway, that's just a thought. think about it. I have other ideas, but I'm
just throwing this one of them out there. take care.
