Re: [Audyssey] Silver sword and other ios games for access?

2012-11-18 Thread dark

Hi dakota

fortunately, I phoned apple support and got things sorted, now have an apple
id and have even downloaded and played the lost cities card game.

I don't know exactly what you mean by put everything on your roter as far
as I've been able to determine (and I could be wrong here), the roter's
function seems to be setting what objects the single finger flic up or down
moves betwene, characters, words, headings etc. I haven't used this too much
yet, though while on the phone to my network provider I did change the roter
setting to characters so I could give my phone's ima number so that they
could recognize the account.

I can see how the setting would be usefull in terms of navigating other
pages, and it's probably something I need to experiment with a little more.

Beware the Grue!

Dark, if you want to familiarize yourself with all Voiceover
functionality, I highly suggest that you put everything on your
voiceover rotor. That way you know exactly what the reader can and
can't do.

I had some trouble with the account login stuff as well, but it
eventually got worked out. Try reading the entire page with a
two-finger upward swipe and looking for stuff that hasn't been filled
out.

It's clumsy, but it works.

it would dial the numbers that it dialed before.
So 212 became 1212 and 609 became 1609.

We had to get sighted assistance to set up the apple ID.

Hi Phil.

I've been including area codes when i phone ever sinse I first went to
uni, so that's not the issue.

As to downloading games, well first I need to get the damnable apple
stupid to recognize my credit card. i went onto the account page, and
quite ironically for an apple page that! one gave me real trouble with
voice over, and I kept getting told that I hadn't filled in all the
required fields, and that they'd helpfully outlined the ones I needed
to

fill in in red!

maybe this is because I only have a short address, god knows! I'm
trying

to see if I can do it online, but thus far apple's so called security is
really! getting up my nose. why can't I just use bloody paypal?

Hi Dark,
To phone someone you may have to include their country code even if it
is

someone next door and in the next house.
You can still download some games though!

Dark, you might also like to try Papa Sangre.

You may have seen this one mentioned here before. It is a FPS type
game

(not a shooter but in the first-person perspective) where you move
around levels of the underworld and free trapped souls.

The 3D audio is very good and the gameplay is immersive.

HTH and happy soul-searching!

Hi shannon.

Heroes rise is I believe one of the games from www.choiceofgames.com, you
can even play some of their stuff free online there or you can buy it in the
ap store.

I haven't played heroes rise myself, or indeed any of their games on the
Iphone, but I have played through a couple of their free offerings such as
choice of the dragon in standard ie.

i actually sent them a mail recently about access matters generally, and
perhaps having some more accessible platforms than just iphone, ie, making
paid brouser versions.

They weren't however forthcoming. I got a very curt response saying we will
fix the access bug in ios 6 which clearly showed they'd not read my message
(sinse I didn't have an iphone at the time and was asking about an
accessible universal online paid version), and when I pointed this out to
them I got no reply.

So, the games may or may not have a bug in Ios 6, and I'm not entirely

Hi Shannon.

Hero's Rise is one of the choice of games premium titles, its a multiple
choice adventure where you create a character and take him or her through
the story. You can play a sample of the game online at
www.choiceofgames.com to see if its for you, I love the games they do.

All the best, Ibrahim.

Re: [Audyssey] Silver sword and other ios games for access?

2012-11-16 Thread Zachary Kline
Hi dark,
I'm sure you can get your Apple situation sorted out. As for talking to the
developer, good luck, I haven't wanted to try that myself.
On the plus side, I can heartily recommend King of Dragon Pass Pass. There have
been several updates recently which fixed all the accessibility problems
mentioned in its database entry, in fact I think it might be time to update it.
I can now say that it is 100% playable by us, with none of the weird quirks we
used to experience.
Yours,
Zack.

As to silver sword, that is a shame. I will send the developer a mail and try

I do sort of remember that there was a despute because someone insisted to

 Hi dark,
Unfortunately, Silversword is not. Actually accessible. It has much
information presented only graphically, and has not been updated in quite
sometime. I'm afraid we have to write off the chances of it becoming more
accessible for the moment. My understanding was that some trouble came up
with the developer, and he no longer wish to continue work on the project.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news,

neither an rp buff nor overly familiar with vo so plus it is quite old.

 Hi Fred.

i remember phil listing a battleships game on his pcs games list, i will
have a look at that. In general it's not specifically simple games I'm
looking for so much as games with a simple interface which isn't
necessarily the same thing, indeed a game like ashes of angels has a
relatively simple interface in terms of controls and such despite being a

 Hi Dark,

I have downloaded many games for the Iphone and recommend one called
Dimentions, or maybe that is an S rather than a t. A good place to get
started is http://www.applevis.com There you will find many categories
of apps to use. Also there are many podcasts on how to make use of many
 of the apps available.

Also Accessible Mine Sweeper, Tap the mole are very simple games. I was
trying to remember a game somewhat like battle ship but can't think of
 what it is.

 Good Luck.

 Ah, good to know.

For when the network is! working, how do I change from wifi to mobile
network? I don't see a setting for that?

Also, does the Iphone store correct secure passwords for wifi networks the
way my laptop does so that I only need to bring it within range of a wifi
connection to work? that would be helpfull indeed, especially for online
 games and the like.

 Beware the grue!

 Hi dark,

Always use wifi first it will be faster. Also it will use less power than
 using your mobile data connection.

I have downloaded many games for the Iphone and recommend one called
Dimentions, or maybe that is an S rather than a t. A good place to get
started is http://www.applevis.com There you will find many categories of
apps to use. Also there are many podcasts on how to make use of many of the
apps available.

Also Accessible Mine Sweeper, Tap the mole are very simple games. I was
trying to remember a game somewhat like battle ship but can't think of what

Hi.

As people will know, my Iphone is turning up this afternoon. I think I
know what I am doing with setup and such, but I would be interested in
people's recommendations for games.

the thing that taught me most about using supernova particularly on the
net, was actually playing games like Legend of the green dragon and ashes
of angels. i suspect vo is the same, and I do know there is a learning
curve, however to make learning a little more pleasant and give me some
incentive, are there games people could recommend with a fairly simple
interface?

king of dragon pass looks amazing, and I really look forward to trying it,
however the fact that it seems to take a little bit of wangling to play
probably doesn't make it ideal as a first game for vo practice.

how about silver sword? how about gamebooks? is the lost cities card game
relatively straight forward in terms of controls?

I know there is a training area, but as I've found in the past nothing is
better for learning than just rolling up my sleeves and doing, and nothing
is more fun to do on a computer than play games!

so, I'd very much appreciate people's suggestions and thoughts here.

I did! load up safari during my play with an Iphone and attempt to brouse
audiogames.net, but that didn't go exactly smoothly.

Any thoughts?

Re: [Audyssey] Silver sword and other ios games for access?

2012-11-14 Thread Dakotah Rickard
One thing about the iPhone that I've found is that it's hard to
predict what apps will and won't be accessible.

For example, I'm playing my very first social game, that is a game
where I'm really connected with friends in a ranking system, called
ErnCon. It's not particularly accessible during gameplay, and there
are a few issues, but it works surprisingly well.

I'm not necessarily recommending it to you, only saying that there are
many apps that are surprisingly accessible, and many developers, such
as the fellow who makes ErnCon, who want their app to be more
accessible because the more people who play it, the more money he
makes off upgrades ad such.

There are, of course, many apps which are totally inaccessible, and
some that look accessible are, up to a frustrating point, such as the
app The Void, which I tried the other day.

I suggest that you do start by visiting Applevis, but also feel free
and empowered to just go into the store and play around, and if you do
want to try ErnCon, my GameCenter id is GamerCane.

Good luck and good hunting.

to add to this, when searching for or browsing apps on applevis, there are
options called usability ratings that one can select, such as:
The app is fully accessible with VoiceOver and is easy to navigate and

There are some minor accessibility issues with this app, but they are easy
to deal with.

There are some accessibility issues with this app, but it can still be used
if you are willing to tolerate these issues and learn how to work around
them.

Some parts of the app are accessible with VoiceOver, but not enough to make
it usable.

The app is totally inaccessible.

when selected, the site will only show apps that fit those ratings that you
select.
there are also various other helpful accessibility notes/comments/pointers

put together, all of these are a real help to gage which apps you should be

Re: [Audyssey] Silver sword  and other ios games for access?

2012-11-14 Thread Kelly Sapergia

Hi Dark,

Congratulations on getting the iPhone, I think you're really going to enjoy
it.

There are lots of games available for iOS devices. It might be a good idea
to take a look at www.applevis.com and their Games category in the Apps
Directory. As far as Voiceover is concerned, some of the games I'd recommend
include iBlackjack HD, Accessible Minesweeper (which I haven't been able to
solve yet), Naval Combat (a Battleship-style game), and probably any of the
games by a company called Choice of Games. There's a free game I'm playing
from them (I believe you can get an upgrade that will remove advertising)
called Popcorn, Soda... Murder? It's basically a choose-your-own-adventure
styled game where you're solving a mystery. Lost Cities is an accessible
card game that I just purchased. I think I'm getting the hang of it, but
keep losing to the computer opponent you play against during the tutorial.

Hope this helps.

Hi Fred.

i remember phil listing a battleships game on his pcs games list, i will
have a look at that. In general it's not specifically simple games I'm
looking for so much as games with a simple interface which isn't necessarily
the same thing, indeed a game like ashes of angels has a relatively simple
interface in terms of controls and such despite being a fairly complex game
in it's own right.

Subject: [Audyssey] Silver sword and other ios games for access?

Hi.

As people will know, my Iphone is turning up this afternoon. I think I
know what I am doing with setup and such, but I would be interested in
people's recommendations for games.

the thing that taught me most about using supernova particularly on the
net, was actually playing games like Legend of the green dragon and ashes
of angels. i suspect vo is the same, and I do know there is a learning
curve, however to make learning a little more pleasant and give me some
incentive, are there games people could recommend with a fairly simple
interface?

king of dragon pass looks amazing, and I really look forward to trying
it, however the fact that it seems to take a little bit of wangling to
play probably doesn't make it ideal as a first game for vo practice.

how about silver sword? how about gamebooks? is the lost cities card game
relatively straight forward in terms of controls?

I know there is a training area, but as I've found in the past nothing is
better for learning than just rolling up my sleeves and doing, and
nothing is more fun to do on a computer than play games!

so, I'd very much appreciate people's suggestions and thoughts here.

I did! load up safari during my play with an Iphone and attempt to brouse
audiogames.net, but that didn't go exactly smoothly.

Any thoughts?

all the best,

dark.

Re: [Audyssey] Silver sword and other ios games for access?

2012-11-14 Thread dark

Hi dakota.

In terms of access that is indeed my eventual plan, I do hope to be able to
do for the Iphone some of the things I've done in terms of access for
audiogames.net, ie, be able to look at different games and suggest access
improvements to interested developers, then list the games on the db.

However, obviously I will need to acquire a good working knolidge of voice
over in order to be able to do that, so that I can have a better idea of
what does or does not work in access terms, hence why I'm looking for games
to play to help me familiarize myself with the system, as ultimately simply
playing with the default os menues and functions can only go so far.

Beware the grue!

Hi.
One of my first iPhone games was Choice of the Dragon. I think it's free

a dollar. It's a text game and it helps you practice the gestures for
reading the screen and moving between pages.
You play a dragon and the choices you make effect your personality traits.

Hi Dark,

Congratulations on getting the iPhone, I think you're really going to
enjoy it.

There are lots of games available for iOS devices. It might be a good idea
to take a look at www.applevis.com and their Games category in the Apps
Directory. As far as Voiceover is concerned, some of the games I'd
recommend include iBlackjack HD, Accessible Minesweeper (which I haven't
been able to solve yet), Naval Combat (a Battleship-style game), and
probably any of the games by a company called Choice of Games. There's a
free game I'm playing from them (I believe you can get an upgrade that
will remove advertising) called Popcorn, Soda... Murder? It's basically
a choose-your-own-adventure styled game where you're solving a mystery.
Lost Cities is an accessible card game that I just purchased. I think I'm
getting the hang of it, but keep losing to the computer opponent you play
against during the tutorial.

Hope this helps.

The 3D audio is very good and the gameplay is immersive.

Hey Dark,

I'd recommend giving Things That Go Bump in the Night a shot once
you're familar with VoiceOver gestures. It's an iOS adaption of an old
text game apparently (not particularly a history or text buff so
forgive any dodgy terminology). Anyway, I'd recommend it because the
layout of the each tab is logical but different so it'll get you used
to moving around a few different interfaces, there are a couple of
timed puzzles a way into the game, and you'll probably be able to
provide me with a much needed spoiler at some point lol.

Good luck!

Hi Fred.

i remember phil listing a battleships game on his pcs games list, i will
have a look at that. In general it's not specifically simple games I'm
looking for so much as games with a simple interface which isn't
necessarily the same thing, indeed a game like ashes of angels has a
relatively simple interface in terms of controls and such despite being a
fairly complex game in it's own right.

Hi.

As people will know, my Iphone is turning up this afternoon. I think I
know what I am doing with setup and such, but I would be interested in
people's recommendations for games.

the thing that taught me most about using supernova particularly on the
net, was actually playing games like Legend of the green dragon and
ashes of angels. i suspect vo is the same, and I do know there is a
learning curve, however to make learning a little more pleasant and give
me some incentive, are there games people could recommend with a
fairly simple interface?

king of dragon pass looks amazing, and I really look forward to trying
it, however the fact that it seems to take a little bit of wangling to
play probably doesn't make it ideal as a first game for vo practice.

how about silver sword? how about gamebooks? is the lost cities card
game relatively straight forward in terms of controls?

I know there is a training area, but as I've found in the past nothing
is better for learning than just rolling up my sleeves and doing, and
nothing is more fun to do on a computer than play games!

so, I'd very much appreciate people's suggestions and thoughts here.

I did! load up safari during my play with an Iphone and attempt to
brouse audiogames.net, but that didn't go exactly smoothly.

Any thoughts?

I think though it is likely to be fun. voice over I'm finding surprisingly

Dark, you might also like to try Papa Sangre.

You may have seen this one mentioned here before. It is a FPS type game
(not a shooter but in the first-person perspective) where you move around
levels of the underworld and free trapped souls.

The 3D audio is very good and the gameplay is immersive.

HTH and happy soul-searching!

Hi Dark,

enjoy it.

There are lots of games available for iOS devices. It might be a good
idea to take a look at www.applevis.com and their Games category in the
Apps Directory.

Good luck!

Scott

Hi Dark,

I have downloaded many games for the Iphone and recommend one called
Dimentions, or maybe that is an S rather than a t. A good place to get
started is http://www.applevis.com There you will find many
categories of apps to use. Also there are many podcasts on how to make

Also Accessible Mine Sweeper, Tap the mole are very simple games. I

Hi dark,
Unfortunately, Silversword is not. Actually accessible. It has much
information presented only graphically, and has not been updated in quite
sometime. I'm afraid we have to write off the chances of it becoming more
accessible for the moment. My understanding was that some trouble came up
with the developer, and he no longer wish to continue work on the project.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news,
Zack.

Dark, you might also like to try Papa Sangre.

You may have seen this one mentioned here before. It is a FPS type game
(not a shooter but in the first-person perspective) where you move around
levels of the underworld and free trapped souls.

The 3D audio is very good and the gameplay is immersive.

Hi Dark,

Congratulations on getting the iPhone, I think you're really going to
enjoy it.

There are lots of games available for iOS devices. It might be a good
idea to take a look at www.applevis.com and their Games category in the
Apps Directory.
Murder? It's
basically a choose-your-own-adventure styled game where you're solving a
mystery. Lost Cities is an accessible card game that I just purchased. I
think I'm getting the hang of it, but keep losing to the computer
opponent you play against during the tutorial.

Hope this helps.

 Hi Dark,

Congratulations on getting the iPhone, I think you're really going to
 enjoy it.

There are lots of games available for iOS devices. It might be a good
idea to take a look at www.applevis.com and their Games category in the
Apps Directory.

I would also highly recommend going through the account setup via iTunes on
the computer, it is a lot easier and quicker than fiddling about trying to
do it on the iPhone.

Dark,
It is entirely possible to fill this sort of information out on your
computer, without having to deal with the phone. That might be easier for
everyone, and I highly recommend trying it. You need to start up iTunes, and
can find your account info from the store menu.

Zack.

 Hi Dark,
To phone someone you may have to include their country code even if it is
someone next door and in the next house.
You can still download some games though!

 Hi Kara.

I now have my Iphone, after some wonderfull shenanigans with my sim
card and some even more fun setting the thing up and creating the apple
id, it is done accept I can't phone anyone! :D. I'm going to phone my
service provider and see about fixing this tomorrow, and after that I'll
 think about games.

I think though it is likely to be fun. voice over I'm finding
surprisingly useable albeit I've not quite got all the gestures yet and
I look forward to trying pappasanga with all I've heard, and indeed the
 night jar as well.

 all the best,

Dark, you might also like to try Papa Sangre.

You may have seen this one mentioned here before. It is a FPS type game
(not a shooter but in the first-person perspective) where you move
around levels of the underworld and free trapped souls.

The 3D audio is very good and the gameplay is immersive.

 HTH and happy soul-searching!

 Smiles,

 Cara :)

2012-11-14 Thread Phil Vlasak

Hi Dark,
In the US, the country code is 1.
the area code is three digits like 212 or 609.
When we got the iPhone 4s we put in 212 and it worked.
Then we updated the OS and had to tack the 1 on to each phone number before
it would dial the numbers that it dialed before.

So 212 became 1212 and 609 became 1609.

We had to get sighted assistance to set up the apple ID.
grumble.
Phil

 Hi christina.

that is a very good suggestion. I recently added choiceofgames to the
audiogames.net db after playing some of their free offerings that can be
 played online in the brouser.

when however I questioned them about whether they could create accessible pc

versions that didn't require chrome, they said that the games were known to

have access issues on Ios 6 but if those are fixed I will be interested in
having a look at their stuff sinse they are good games when written well.

 All the best,

 Dark.

 Hi.
One of my first iPhone games was Choice of the Dragon. I think it's free
 or
a dollar. It's a text game and it helps you practice the gestures for
reading the screen and moving between pages.
You play a dragon and the choices you make effect your personality traits.
 Enjoy.

 Hi.

As people will know, my Iphone is turning up this afternoon. I think I
 know
what I am doing with setup and such, but I would be interested in people's
 recommendations for games.

the thing that taught me most about using supernova particularly on the
 net,
was actually playing games like Legend of the green dragon and ashes of
angels. i suspect vo is the same, and I do know there is a learning curve,
however to make learning a little more pleasant and give me some
 incentive,
are there games people could recommend with a fairly simple interface?

king of dragon pass looks amazing, and I really look forward to trying it,
however the fact that it seems to take a little bit of wangling to play
probably doesn't make it ideal as a first game for vo practice.

how about silver sword? how about gamebooks? is the lost cities card game
relatively straight forward in terms of controls?

I know there is a training area, but as I've found in the past nothing is
better for learning than just rolling up my sleeves and doing, and nothing
is more fun to do on a computer than play games!

so, I'd very much appreciate people's suggestions and thoughts here.

I did! load up safari during my play with an Iphone and attempt to brouse
audiogames.net, but that didn't go exactly smoothly.

 Any thoughts?

 all the best,

 dark.
