Re: [Audyssey] re self destruct and other x site hosted games

well it would be nice to have a competition.
To often a dev stops doing a game because someone else is doing it,
we get 1 game, but your take on it or style would sertainly prompt descussion.
You could probably redo the danger city in bgt if you cared to as
well as the rest of the stuff.

At 10:51 p.m. 1/06/2011, you wrote:

Hi.

this is really to damien, but anyone else is free to chime in too.

As I've been cleaning up the database recently and removing old
entries, I've noticed that the older abandonware titles
previously hosted by x site (and presumably on Damien's todo list
for eventual reworking), are no longer available from there.

If Damien's not planning to rejigger those games, fair enough,
but if tom, damien or someone else is hosting them I'd appreciate
knowing so that I can give their pages current download links and
make them available to people.

I know some people have stuck them on dropbox, however I'm always
concerned at those sorts of options sinse it's not often clear
how long such things will be up and available and it's most
irritating to have someone say it'll be on dropbox only for the
link to go dead a couple of weeks later.

so some confirmation from Damien regarding self destruct, danger
city, last crusade and the savage gambit (I think that was all of
them), would be welcome indeed.

Actually with all the talk of boxing I wouldn't mind giving
savage gambit another go myself to have an idea what greymatters'
improvements will be like.

Re: [Audyssey] re self destruct and other x site hosted games

2011-06-01 Thread dark

Hi Damien.

I'm afraid I disagree with your motive not to host the games because they
are buggy.

They are abandonware, and you are not the initial programmer therefore are
not responsable for the games whatever remakes you come up with later, and
by the fact that the games are abandonware people will know they will not be
perfect.

That being said though, the games are worth playing, I actualy have self
destruct perminantly on my machine as one of my stand in games, sinse while
it's got it's problems it's also very playable and has good atmosphere
despite yes having bugs.

Therefore I would think it a shame if people were denied playing these.

yes, remakes would be better, and I'll look forward to those, but that has
nothing to do with the original.

heck, Philip bennifall's old games are abandonware and while he's doing a
better job now and has even considdered remakes of tj and showdown he
doesn't have an issue of tom hosting the games whatever plans he has.

I really myself don't see the issue, I've played several very good
abandonware titles from pc prince of persia to fallthru and have no
complaints even when they do come up with odd bug.

Re: [Audyssey] re self destruct and other x site hosted games

2011-06-01 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Dark,

As Damien said on list a couple of weeks ago he will no longer make
downloads available for Self-Destruct, Savage Gambit, etc.
Since those games are technically his property now I’m not going to be
hosting them on my website either. So I’d say just remove the
abandoned games from the audiogames.net database.

Cheers!

 Hi.

this is really to damien, but anyone else is free to chime in too.

As I've been cleaning up the database recently and removing old entries,
I've noticed that the older abandonware titles previously hosted by x site
(and presumably on Damien's todo list for eventual reworking), are no longer
 available from there.

If Damien's not planning to rejigger those games, fair enough, but if tom,
damien or someone else is hosting them I'd appreciate knowing so that I can
give their pages current download links and make them available to people.

I know some people have stuck them on dropbox, however I'm always concerned
at those sorts of options sinse it's not often clear how long such things
will be up and available and it's most irritating to have someone say it'll
be on dropbox only for the link to go dead a couple of weeks later.

so some confirmation from Damien regarding self destruct, danger city, last
crusade and the savage gambit (I think that was all of them), would be
 welcome indeed.

Actually with all the talk of boxing I wouldn't mind giving savage gambit
another go myself to have an idea what greymatters' improvements will be
 like.

 Beware the grue!

As I said, i think that's quite a shame and I hope Damien will reconsidder
the matter, perhaps hosting them with a disclaimer that they are
abandonware.
