Really exciting.  But I'm confused how this works with the round robin
nature of RRD.  Don't we by default only have (for example) daily data
for past 24 hour period, not 48 hours?

rrdtool should automatically pull from the "best suitable" RRA available
in the archive.  If that means using a lower-granularity RRA, that's
what you get.

That depends. We bumped up resolution in 3.3.0+ to store last 2 weeks at 
15 second resolution.
