[gatortalk] RE: [gatornews] Jamar Hornsby

2008-11-15 Thread Ken Kirkley
I find it sad, that they build this kid up as an all-star but don't provide
any of the pertinent details on why he was kicked off Florida.

Hornsby said Thursday he didn't want to talk about the circumstances under
which he left Florida, only saying that he had to leave

Yes, you had to leave because you were stealing from a student who you knew
who had died tragically. And, oh yeah, that student happened to be the
girlfriend of one of your teammates. Oh, did I mention that one of your
teammates died in that accident too? Okay, I understand why you had to
leave, you were going to get your butt kicked if you stuck around.

I don't have a problem with Jamar being given a 2nd chance, glad it is not
at Florida, but to not even mention the circumstances is beyond homersim.

Talk about it in http://olemiss.rivals.com/forum.asp?SID=1036FID=942 The

In September 2007, Florida safety
http://olemiss.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=1pr_key=87806 Jamar
Hornsby had a tackle in a win at Ole Miss.

On Saturday, however, he plans on being on the sidelines of Vaught-Hemingway
Stadium in another capacity - that of unofficial visitor and a recruit who
now has a serious interest in playing for the Rebels.

Hornsby said Ole Miss offered about two weeks ago

I'm coming up with (associate head) coach (William) Jones, and maybe a
couple of other players, Hornsby said on Thursday evening. I'm not for
sure which players yet, but I'm sure a couple of more will come.

Hornsby's interest in Ole Miss has grown considerably since receiving a
scholarship offer from Houston Nutt's Rebels.

I was offered by Ole Miss a couple of weeks ago, Hornsby said. (Ole Miss
safeties) Coach (Kim) Dameron is recruiting me and he's telling me that I
have a good chance of coming in right away and playing immediately.

Hornsby's potential to make an immediate impact comes from his experience at
Florida for two years, and over the fall at East Mississippi Community
College.

Hornsby, who is originally from Jacksonville (Sandalwood), Fla., signed with
Florida as part of the Gators' heralded 2006 signing class, choosing Florida
over the likes of Southern California, Georgia, Ohio State, and Michigan.
Hornsby said he was offered by just about every SEC team.

Two seasons ago, Hornsby was listed as a Rivals250 prospect, the 22nd best
prospect in Florida, the No. 13 athlete nationally, and was ranked a
four-star prospect coming out of high school.

After drawing a redshirt in the 2006 season at Florida, Hornsby played in
eight games as a redshirt freshman in 2007. He was credited with five
tackles.

Hornsby was expected to see playing time this fall for the Gators. However,
he was dismissed from the team late last spring after being charged with
misdemeanor charges of credit card fraud. His case is still pending and a
plea agreement is expected to be reached after Hornsby completes his current
semester at East Miss. No details of the agreement have been disclosed,
according to a recent report published in a Jacksonsville newspaper.

Meanwhile, Hornsby says he has to shortage of teams that are showing
interest.

It's almost like it was last time (he was recruited), he said. Just about
everyone in the SEC has been in contact.

Hornsby was a 6-foot-3, 195-pound prospect with 4.45-second speed in the
40-yard dash coming out of high school. He's playing this season at 200
pounds. He could play strong safety or free safety at the college level.

Hornsby said Thursday he didn't want to talk about the circumstances under
which he left Florida, only saying that he had to leave and that he wants
to continue playing football, possibly at Ole Miss.

I really like Ole Miss, Hornsby said. But, I've been through this (the
recruiting process) before and I want to weigh my options and think things
through and do what's best for me.

Hornsby said that one thing that has increased his interest in Ole Miss is
the team's success this year.

They had a good team last year, Hornsby said. I mean, they almost beat us
then. This year, they've gotten a lot better and are winning some ballgames.
I watched the Florida game on TV (a 31-30 Ole Miss win in Gainesville), and
I loved it. I just wished I had been there.

Hornsby said his East Mississippi Community College team finished 8-1 in the
regular season before losing to Pearl River Community College in the
playoffs.

He said that 2008 Ole Miss signee Randall Mackey, who quarterbacked East
Mississippi this fall, may attend the Louisiana-Monroe game with him.

I haven't told him I'm coming up for the game, Hornsby said. When I do, I
know he'll want to come with me.

Hornsby has two seasons of eligibility remaining. He plans to attend EMCC in
the spring per an NCAA requirement for him to

[gatortalk] Kinda late to be asking this but...

2008-11-15 Thread Gatorrrrrr
I know I should have asked this long before now

Does anyone know how far the Econo Lodge
University (13th Street - South of Archer) really
is from Ben Hill? Meaning. can I walk to/from
there SAFELY?

Im getting conflicting info because one source
says its a lot closer than another. And now Im
wondering if I shouldn't go elsewhere just
because. but the problem is I am bringing my dog.
