FW: [gatortalk] Re: Dad's prediction for tomorrowYeah, they'll keep our
offense off the field. We score a TD in 1:28 and sit down. The Tide marches
down the field eating up 6:30 of the clock and then kicks a FG. Our fresh
offense trots back out on the field and in 2:05, we score another TD. We
send our second string defense in this time and the Tide marches a little
quicker. This time they eat up only 4:50 off the clock before kicking
another FG. Our offense repeats and we alternate our defense, who also
repeats, although somewhere in there we will intercept Wilson.

Sounds easy enough. Why don't they just GIVE us the trophy and we'll start

I don't know about you, but I'm surrounded by Alabama fans who have been
ragging me all week about how they are going to beat us.

I've also listened to many sportswriters who have been predicting a Tide
win all week.

I'm beginning to feel like the underdog in this fight, and I'm sick of
hearing about how their fat nose guard is going to disrupt our offensive
line although he only has nine tackles over the whole season. We've been
hearing especially the last 3 games how the particular defense of the week
only allowed 24 points per game. It was uncanny that each defense only
allowed 24 points. Yet, we kicked them all over the place. I'm sick of
hearing about how Alabama's offensive line is going to play ball control and
keep our offense off the field the whole game. Yet, every offense we've
faced has been stymied at every turn.

That's crap. We are no slouch here and we are going to kick their redneck
Alabama butts!!!

No, I'm not over confident. But, I am confident that we will prevail. I
hope Charlie Crist gets a bellyache on those Dreamland ribs, because he's
going to get them!!

Okay, this is for my Mother. I was decked out in all my lucky Gator gear,
especially the socks which I haven't washed the entire season...I know, I
know!! And then in the 4th quarter I remembered these little bitty orange &
blue pompoms that were on my birthday cake which I have held since the LSU
game. I quickly got them and held onto them until this game was done. Now
this is where I owe this to my Mother. She now lives in her home town located
in Alabama, amongst all my Bama die-hard relatives. She, of course, is a loyal
Gator. Anyway, I was at her house for my birthday this year (which was during
LSU weekend) and she had the local bakery do a cake for me with a Go Gator
theme. I'm sure these little pompoms were probably for Aubie fans, but they
used them for my Gator cake. I have cheered the Gators with my little pompoms
since and I am positive that was the turning point of the game :-) And I will
be cheering the Gators in January with my itty-bitty pompoms and my unwashed
socks!!!

Retard them, retard them, make them relinquish the ball

We got our hands up high

And that's the way we jig-a-low
Jig-a-low, jig-jig-a-low

[gatortalk] Why did we not see Moody?

2008-12-07 Thread keith

We have been waiting 2 years now (he sat out the first year - and this is the second year) to see Moody running between the tackles - to be our power runner - and the fourth quarter of the SECC game was the perfect time to have the power back running the ball, 4 yards and a cloud of dust, run out the clock, keep the chains moving, etc.

Is Moody still not ready?  I saw him lining up as a wide out???  And they kept putting James, Demps, and Rainey as the talback.

Whereas our defense missed A LOT of arm tackles - Alabama did not appear to miss many arm tackles against James, Demps, and Rainey.

Wasn't Mon Williams our power back before he got hurt?  Is he still not ready either?

2008-12-07 Thread Oliver Barry
I want to go on record as being the first to suggest we change our nickname
from the Florida Gators to the UF TEBOWS! :+)
Another meaningless & stupid statistic: Tebow was 0-5 after being behind in the
second half. After he's nominated for sainthood. He'll be known as the only
player who led his team to victory after being behind at the end of the game!

Leading Gators to SEC title, Tim Tebow proves man of his word Mike Bianchi |
SPORTS COMMENTARY1:38 AM EST, December 7, 2008 ATLANTA

*T*he last time the Florida
Gatorslost
a game, Tim
Tebow,
his eyes watering and his voice cracking, swore he would never let it happen
again.

On Saturday, the University of
Florida's
intense, incandescent icon lived up to his promise one more time and in the
process led the streaking Gators to an epic 31-20 victory over No.1 Alabama
in the Southeastern Conference Championship Game and a likely spot in the
national-championship game against Oklahoma.

Just when you think Tebow's legend can't become any more immense, he comes
out and does something he's never done before. He guided the Gators to a
dramatic fourth-quarter comeback and put himself in prime position to become
only the second player in college-football history to win two Heisman
Trophies.

"He won the Heisman today in my opinion," said Matt Hayes, a Heisman voter
and the national college-football writer for *The Sporting News*.

"With no disrespect to the other candidates," Florida coach Urban
Meyersaid,
"but my quarterback is the best player in college football."

And Meyer is quickly gaining a reputation as the choreographer of the most
dynamic program in college football. It hasn't happened yet, but he has a
chance to win his second national title in three years and to be the coach
of a two-time Heisman winner. No other program in college football - not
Southern Cal, not Texas, not Oklahoma or Ohio
State-
can boast of such accolades.

To Florida's adoring fan base, Meyer has become a rock star. When he shook
hands with a celebrating Florida fan after Saturday's game, the fan's wife
immediately kissed the hand Meyer just shook and implored her husband to
never again wash it.

Meanwhile, thousands upon thousands of Florida fans chanted "S-E-C! S-E-C!"
and one woman held up a Tebow sign to the network television cameras:
"
CBS-
Can't Beat
Superman
!"

What more can you say about the Timinator? It's looking more and more like
his emotional postgame apology to Florida fans after the loss to Ole Miss
may go down as UF's version of the Gatorsburg Address. *Forty scores and 700
cheers ago*.

Ole Miss had just shocked the Gators 31-30 when Tebow took the podium and
told Florida fans how "extremely sorry" he was and vowed to make things
right.

"I promise you a lot of good will come from this," a tearful Tebow
proclaimed. "You will never see any player in the entire country who will
play harder than I will play the rest of the season. And you will not see
someone push the rest of the team as hard as I will push everybody for the
rest of the season, and you will never see a team play harder than we will
the rest of the season."

And as turned to leave, he added solemnly: "God bless."

With that speech, Tebow has turned into Florida's version of Patrick
Henry.
Give me a championship or give me death!

It won't be long until all the little Gator children will be memorizing the
speech in school and reciting it front of the class: *Uh, I promise, uh, you
a lot of good will, uh, from this * ...

Since Tebow's speech, Florida has reeled off a nine-game winning streak
whereby the Gators are beating teams by an average of nearly 40points per
game.

On Saturday, though, it wasn't nearly so easy. Which is why Tebow's
performance will be celebrated even more. Without his favorite weapon -
injured wide receiver Percy
Harvin-
in the lineup, Tebow was still able to throw for three touchdowns and
orchestrate two fourth-quarter scoring driv

I keep wondering the same thing. When our smaller backs were unable to make any
headway early in this game, I was thinking we’d see Moody step in and play.
This seemed more like his kind of situation. In the fourth quarter, when they
use him to burn clock, he did pretty well and it seems like we could have used
some of that earlier. Still, it’s not like I see him every day in practice. Our
coaches aren’t stupid so if they’re not using him in a particular situation, it
must be that they don’t have confidence that he’ll get the job done. I wish I
knew more about it, though, because every time I see him he seems like a really
solid back with the potential to run hard up the middle and grind away at the
yards when we need a long sustained drive.

[gatortalk] AP poll!

Florida No. 1, Oklahoma ahead of Texas in AP poll

By RALPH D. RUSSO AP College Football Writer
Published: Sunday, December 7, 2008 at 2:41 p.m.

Florida was No. 1, Oklahoma No. 2 and Texas' chances of getting a championship
trophy took a hit.

Florida quarterback Tim Tebow, left, and coach Urban Meyer are surrounded by
confetti as they celebrate their 31-20 win over top-ranked Alabama in this
Southeastern Conference Championship NCAA college football game at the Georgia
Dome in Atlanta Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008. (AP Photo/Dave Martin)

The Longhorns were No. 3 in The Associated Press college football poll released
Sunday, behind the two teams expected to be matched later in the day in the
national title game Jan. 8 in Miami.

The Gators finished the season No. 1 in the AP poll two seasons ago, but before
that Florida last led the media rankings in October 2001.

Tim Tebow and the Gators won the Southeastern Conference championship Saturday
with a 31-20 victory against previously unbeaten and then-No. 1 Alabama.

Florida, which received 50 first-place votes, becomes the sixth team to be No.
1 this season. Georgia started there. Southern California took over after the
first games were played and held the top spot for four weeks.

After USC lost at Oregon State, Oklahoma rose to No. 1 and stayed there for two
weeks. The Sooners lost to Texas 45-35 on Oct. 11.

The Longhorns were No. 1 until losing 39-33 on a last-second touchdown at Texas
Tech on Oct. 25. That made Alabama No. 1, where the Tide stayed until losing to
the Gators and falling to No. 4.

The last season in which there were six No. 1 teams was 1984.

The Sooners won the Big 12 championship, a game many felt Texas deserved to be
in instead of Oklahoma because of the head-to-head result, by routing Missouri
62-21 on Saturday night. The latest offensive barrage by the Sooners, who have
set an NCAA record for points in a season with 702, helped OU move up two spots
in the Top 25 and jump over Texas in another close vote.

Last week, Texas was ranked third, eight points ahead of Oklahoma. This week,
Oklahoma is 10 points ahead of Texas.

Oklahoma received nine first-place votes. Texas had six. Last week, 40 voters
had Texas ahead of Oklahoma in the AP poll, most by one spot. The Longhorns
were ahead of the Sooners on 34 ballots this week.

The shift means it's unlikely Texas could finish No. 1 in the AP poll after the
bowls are played - the Longhorns are expected to be matched against Ohio State
in the Fiesta Bowl - no matter how the BCS title game between Oklahoma and
Florida plays out.

The next and final AP Top 25 will be released hours after the BCS championship
game.

The USA Today coaches' poll is obligated to rank the BCS title game winner No.
1. The AP poll is not. The last time the two major polls had different final
No. 1 teams was after the 2003 season, when LSU won the BCS title and Southern
California was No. 1 in AP Top 25.

The rest of the latest top 10 stayed the same the day after championship
Saturday.

Southern California, Pac-10 champions for the seventh straight season, was No.
5 and the Trojans' Rose Bowl opponent Penn State was No. 6.

Undefeated Utah was No. 7, followed by Texas Tech and undefeated Boise State.
The Utes, champions of the Mountain West Conference, and the Broncos, champs of
the Western Athletic Conference, are the only unbeaten teams left in major
college football.

Ohio State rounded out the top 10.

The next 10 started with TCU at No. 11, followed by Oklahoma State at 12. The
Cowboys join Oklahoma, Texas and Texas Tech and give the Big 12 South a third
of the top 12 teams in the country.

Big East champion Cincinnati was No. 13, followed by Georgia Tech and Oregon.

Preseason No. 1 Georgia was No. 16. BYU, Pittsburgh, Michigan State and
Mississippi completed the top 20.

No. 21 Virginia Tech re-entered the rankings after beating Boston College to
win its second consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference championship Saturday.

Ball State slipped 10 spots to No. 22 after losing for the first time this
season. The Cardinals lost the Mid-American Conference championship game 42-24
to Buffalo on Friday night.

No. 23 Northwestern, Oregon State and Missouri, which fell six spots to No. 25,
closed out the rankings.

BC was the only team to fall out of the Top 25 this week.

[gatortalk] Re: Why did we not see Moody?

2008-12-07 Thread Gatorrrrrr
Didn't the announcer guy (Gary Danielson?) say
something about they were lining him up as a
wideout and that created a mismatch with (I think)
David Nelson vs a Safety? I dunno if how they are
using him is intentional or what. but it doesn't
seem like he see's any play until the second half
and usually the 4th qtr. Why I dunno. I would
think they would rotate Demps, Moore, Rainey and
Moody more throughout the game to keep them fresh.

  Neal McCready
  Senior Writer

Talk about it in The Grove

Jamar Hornsby did not intent to make a decision this weekend on his official
visit to Ole Miss.

However, the 6-foot-3, 200-pound safety saw what he wanted to see.
Spontaneity won the day.

East Mississippi Community College safety Jamar Hornsby, a former
Florida standout, committed to Ole Miss Sunday.

"It went great," Hornsby said Sunday morning. "It went good enough for me to
commit. It exceeded my expectations. I wanted to see how coaches interacted
with players. I wanted to watch practice and I got a chance to see the players
at my position."

Hornsby committed to the Rebels during a meeting this morning with Ole Miss
coach Houston Nutt.

"He was real excited," Hornsby said. "Coach Nutt is another one of the
players out there, a real cool guy."

Hornsby, who chose Ole Miss over Kentucky, Arkansas and others, said Rebel
safety coach Kim Dameron told him he will get a look at both strong safety and
free safety. Jamarca Sanford's college career will end in early January, while
free safety Kendrick Lewis emerged as an all-star caliber player in the second
half of this season.

"I'm kind of used to that same scheme, being a drop-down safety as well as
being in the middle of the field," Hornsby said. "(Dameron) said I could
cross-train and learn both positions. I'm more comfortable as a free, but if I
have to make that adjustment, it won't be too much of a change."

Hornsby, who is unranked by Rivals.com at this point, was a highly-recruited
prospect two years ago. He chose Florida over dozens of offers from elite
programs all over the country and worked his way into the Gators' starting
lineup as a freshman.

Hornsby was dismissed from the Florida team following the 2006 season after
being charged with misdemeanor charges of credit card fraud. His case is still
pending and a plea agreement is expected to be reached later this month. No
details of the agreement have been disclosed, according to a recent report
published in a Jacksonville newspaper.

"I'm past all that," Hornsby said. "I know it's going to come up eventually,
but I'm prepared for it. I just look over it now."

Instead, Hornsby is focused on a second chance in the Southeastern Conference.

"I'm real excited," Hornsby said. "When I was growing up, I wanted to play in
the SEC. I went to Florida. That didn't work out."

Hornsby enrolled at East Mississippi Community College in Scooba and earned
NCJAA All-Region 23 defensive MVP as well as first-team all-state honors. The
Jacksonville, Fla., native was the Lions' second-leading tackler on the year
with 111 total tackles (64 solos and 47 assists) and was tied for third on the
club with two interceptions. Hornsby was also credited with eight pass
breakups, four quarterback hurries and three forced fumbles on the year.

He spent the weekend hanging out with Lewis, Mike Wallace and Marshay Green
and watched his former team beat No. 1 Alabama in Saturday's Southeastern
Conference Championship Game in Atlanta. Hornsby's goal is to watch that game
again next December, only in an Ole Miss uniform and with a field-level view.

"If you really think about it, Ole Miss is only a couple of fumbles and a few
dropped passes from being in the SEC Championship Game," Hornsby said. "I think
next year, we'll be right there in the mix for a championship."

Hornsby is on pace to graduate in May. He said he'll report to Ole Miss
immediately afterwards to prepare for his two years with the Rebels.

Cee, you sound like my wife Flo talking about those rotten ‘paid off refs’!
She gives them hell every game. When it isn’t the refs she gets on our players
and coaches for any mistakes and bad plays, especially the defense. You need to
watch a game together sometime.

Overall it really was a great SEC championship game to watch—Tebow Time in

I have cheered the Gators with my little pompoms
since and I am positive that was the turning point of the game :-) And I will
be cheering the Gators in January with my itty-bitty pompoms and my unwashed
socks!!!

We send
our second string defense in this time and the Tide marches a little quicker.
This time they eat up only 4:50 off the clock before kicking another FG. Our
offense repeats and we alternate our defense, who also repeats, although
somewhere in there we will intercept Wilson.

Sounds easy enough. Why don't they just GIVE us the trophy and we'll
start the party early? ;-)

If I see a Gator player take a swing at a semi player and knock out a
couple of the semi's teeth I'm convinced that the semi was either doing
something wrong to deserve it or must've thrown his face into the fist

I always figure if a gator takes a swing at an opponent, he is retaliating for
something we didn't see.

Of course, I also like your suggestion of the player throwing his face into our
player's fist. That happened to me a few times when I was in the navy. I'd be
standing there in a bar minding my own business, and then some guy would just
out of the blue start hitting my fist with his face. Really shocking! ;-)

I have cheered the Gators with my little pompoms
since and I am positive that was the turning point of the game :-) And I will
be cheering the Gators in January with my itty-bitty pompoms and my unwashed
socks!!!

Woohoo! I had a GREAT time watching this game with two of my three
sisters, their families, my parents, my hubby, my son and a few select Gator
friends! We always have a fabulous time watching the Gators together, but this
was one of the best!

I wore my 1996 NCAA Champs tee in hopes of influencing a 52-20 final
score. I'm happy I got it half right and that we ended up on the good side of
it! ;-)

We sisters keep my dad entertained by doing all the old cheers from
decades past:

  Go, Bananas
  Gators got that whamma jamma
Who dat say them Gators can't jam?
Retard them, retard them, make them relinquish the ball
... and, of course, we always celebrate every win with:

We got our hands up high
  Our feet down low
And that's the way we jig-a-low
  Jig-a-low, jig-jig-a-low

  LMAO. Good times.

It is still there, and once again serving beer - in bottles only.
Serves Boars Head sandwiches, wraps, etc. Basically they can't cook
anything in there, no vent. Yesterday they were making chicken wings
upstairs, reheating and saucing them downstairs. Several people said
they were good.
The one time my parents forced me to have a meal plan, I spent the
final balance treating friends to beer in the O&B.
I will probably "work" the national championship game there, too.
Tough life!

WOW. The orange and brew is still there? I thought they removed
it. I remember going up to freshman orientation in 1979 and
spending most of my time in the orange & brew. It was enough to
convince me that I should go to the school. Original

I ended up "working" at the Orange & Brew. The place was close to
packed, mostly students. Loud, fun, no one was obnoxious. As soon as
the game was over, about 3/4 of them paraded to University Avenue for
the peaceful celebration. It was great fun!

Don’t you know someone who could get you a better job at the Reitz Union?

Keep the "scat backs" in as long as there is a chance that they'll break the
big one (you've seen 'em run). When we get the lead, THEN put in Moody, Moore
etc... sorry boys, (Bama, FSU, Georgia...etc...) show's over... you are too
tired from chasing us 'round n 'round...

We have been waiting 2 years now (he sat out the first year - and this is the
second year) to see Moody running between the tackles - to be our power runner
- and the fourth quarter of the SECC game was the perfect time to have the
power back running the ball, 4 yards and a cloud of dust, run out the clock,
keep the chains moving, etc.

Is Moody still not ready? I saw him lining up as a wide out??? And they
kept putting James, Demps, and Rainey as the talback.

Whereas our defense missed A LOT of arm tackles - Alabama did not appear to
miss many arm tackles against James, Demps, and Rainey.

Wasn't Mon Williams our power back before he got hurt? Is he still not ready
either?
