I agree completely that the article is bad journalism. I am not the least bit

Other than folks like our Helen, I think the mainstream media long ago gave up

Despite being with Tennessee from the start, Stokes said he wouldn’t feel any

Football and men's basketball players on the nation's big-time
college teams averaged hundreds of points lower on their SATs than
their classmates, and some of the gaps are so large they call into
question the lengths to which schools will go to win.

The biggest gap between football players and students as a whole
occurred at the University of Florida, where players scored 346
points lower than the school's overall student body. That's larger
than the difference in scores between typical students at the
University of Georgia and Harvard University.

Another UT verbal on UF's radar

But seven months later, the love affair with the Vols took a major hit.

The man he had grown so close to, Coach Phillip Fulmer, was dismissed
from Tennessee in early November. The coach that single-handedly
transformed Stokes into a Volunteer was now gone.

Watching the press conference of Fulmer's dismissal, Stokes said he
found himself very emotional during the whole thing. It wasn't just
Fulmer's football knowledge that captivated him, said Stokes, it was his
relationship with God, his warm personality and his promise to makes
Stokes the best football player and person he could.

With Fulmer now out of the picture, Stokes began to look elsewhere.

It's been an experience, Stokes said of his life since Fulmer's
dismissal. After I committed, I didn't expect any of this to happen. I
didn't expect to take any more visits, but it's part of the business.

Shortly after Tennessee replaced Fulmer with former Oakland Raiders
coach Lane Kiffin, Stokes said he spoke with Kiffin, but has yet to
develop a similar bond as with Fulmer. The problem Tennessee now faces
is that it won't get an official visit from Stokes because he already
took it in September.

While he said he's still committed to the Vols, Stokes said he plans to
take at least three visits in January before he makes his finally
decision on National Signing Day in February. Stokes said he plans to
check out Florida, Michigan and Illinois, but there's a chance he could
make it out to Oklahoma to visit the Sooners' campus.

[gatortalk] Was It Just Me?

2008-12-29 Thread John Vega

On the opening kick-off in the SEC Championship game, the ball
bounced untouched into the end zone.

An Alabama player watched it fly by.

It began to roll to a stop in the end zone and some UF players
approached it like it was a dead ball. The ref then whistles the play
over, before it is touched.

Am I mistaken, or was that still a live ball? Had the UF player
touched it, would it have been a touchdown? How is that any different
than a on-side kick?

I even re-watched the play on Tivo, the ball never went out of bounds
and was never touched by either team.
