[gatortalk] hint a computer polls
I was thinking all night what an Alabama win over LSU (#9 in the BCS rankins) would do for Alabama in the computer polls. I thought it would lift them a lot. Sagarin ratings come out around 2AM. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/fbt09.htm Sagarin sends his "ELO-CHESS" numbers to the BCS (politically correct rankings) and he has Florida #1, Cincinnati #2, Alabama, TCU, Boise State, LSU (7-2 record), and then Texas (9-0 record). Sagarin's "Predictor" which predicts who would actually win head to head games: Florida #1, Texas #2, Alabama #3, TCU #4, Oregon #5, ... LSU #16 South Carolina is #49 (we are favored by 16 points) FSU is #39 (we are favored by 18.5 points) I don't see FIU listed Currently we are 1.09 point favorites over Alabama. --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ GATORS: ONE VOICE ON SATURDAY - NO VOICE ON SUNDAY! 1996 National Football Champions | 2006 National Basketball Champions 2006 National Football Champions | 2007 National Basketball Champions 2008 National Football Champions | Three Heisman Trophy winners: Steve Spurrier (1966), Danny Wuerffel (1996), Tim Tebow (2007) - Visit our website at www.gatornet.us -~--~~~~--~~--~--~---

Ok, I'm sure many of us have thought it, but just haven't actually voiced it. Try this on for size and see what you think. I've been thinking for some time that we have become the masters of the vanilla offense. Everyone thinks our offense is struggling, but I think we are doing just enough to win the game yet not give game tape material to opossing coaches. With the exception of the Georgia game, which we all knew would be a pull out all the stops game, I think Tebow and the offense is doing EXACTLY what Meyer wants. I would love to think so, but I cannot imagine going through an entire season barely throwing the ball downfield, then expecting the Gators to be able to flip a switch and turn it on and be successful at it. Also, how do you account for all the sacks? Are the receivers not getting open, or are they open but Tebow can't get the ball to them? Again, I cannot imagine asking the offense to keep it plain vanilla for twelve games, then expecting them to start chucking it downfield (as SOS used to say. Randy, I think there is more right than wrong to your theory. My *very* cynical and critical husband started saying exactly what you're saying early in the game yesterday. At first, he was so frustrated, saying, What the heck? Why are they going back to this when they saw in Jacksonville how much better they play when they DON'T run these same plays over and over again? Shortly thereafter, he decided that Meyer and Addazio are doing this on purpose. This morning at breakfast, we ran into my ex-in-laws... and my ex-FIL said the exact same thing. Hmmm. We'll see if you're all right. There's over 150 years of football watching experience between the three of you. Surely that counts for something. ;-) Cee - Original Message - From: Gatornet Admin To: GatorTalk Sent: Sunday, November 08, 2009 2:50 PM Subject: [gatortalk] Re: [gatornews] Gatornews from Today's Miami Herald and Palm Beach Post courtesy of JunoGator Ok, I'm sure many of us have thought it, but just haven't actually voiced it. [gatortalk] Re: [gatornews] Gatornews from Today's Miami Herald and Palm Beach Post courtesy of JunoGator
No way, no how do you keep an offense vanilla all year to keep game film away from offenses. They all have seen what we can do when we open it up and there is plenty of film from last year to view. I think it is conservative playcalling and lack of execution. I think 3 of the sacks yesterday were on Tebow, holding the ball too long instead of making a decision to throw it away. But is it because he didn't have anyone open due to bad play call, poor route running? I don't know, I did think it was odd on his TD pass that Nelson was behind Cooper, usually you don't bring extra defenders into the area. This team is an enigma, we know they can score, but for some reason we don't, we act like we are in the NFL and play ball control, field position football. That will win a lot of games with our talent, but will also leave little margin for error when mistakes are made. [gatortalk] Re: [gatornews] Gatornews from Today's Miami Herald and Palm Beach Post courtesy of JunoGator
This is such wishful thinking. It reminds me of the old adage, never attribute to conspiracy that which can be easily explained by incompetence. Addazio and Meyer aren't holding anything back. We simply have a new OC who happens to be an offensive line coach and who calls plays like one. As was already pointed out, it would backfire as a plan anyway because you must practice these skills to get good at them. If they did hold back the 'real' offense all season, they'd be unable to run it effectively in the post-season anyway. Like Mullen before him, Addazio will improve over time. Surely that counts for something. ;-) Cee - Original Message - From: Gatornet Admin mailto:gator...@comcast.net To: GatorTalk mailto:gatortalk@googlegroups.com Sent: Sunday, November 08, 2009 2:50 PM Subject: [gatortalk] Re: [gatornews] Gatornews from Today's Miami Herald and Palm Beach Post courtesy of JunoGator Ok, I'm sure many of us have thought it, but just haven't actually voiced it. So far, the only good game tape Saban and Mack Brown have to study is the UGA game. Not much there to prepare for, is there? Cee, agreed on that photo and comments. I, like others (I imagine), simply employed the delete key. The Tebow costume certainly made a point! Holy crud! I agree with Helen that Meyer is being made an example and didn't have much choice but to follow through on his threat despite Meyer's somewhat mild comments.
