Well that just shows how clueless I am. It wasn't until I read your message,
Zeb, that I even thought of the standalone word 'boy' in that phrase and all
the negative connotations that go with it. I grew up riding and training
horses and 'easy boy' was something you said when a horse got agitated to
calm him down. Where I live, it's just a common way of saying ' hold on,
don't get upset, let me explain' when someone starts to get angry about
something. Seriously, Oliver, if you took it as the pejorative use of 'boy'
then I do apologize. Nothing could have been further from my mind.

Just a view from the bleachers, but I read the phrase in the sense of trying

I am familiar with the other pejorative uses of the term "boy," and didn't

Oh, silly me, when you use an analogy that infers incompetence I think you're
inferring incompetence. Perhaps it's your English usage I should question. But,
the fact is Addazio is 9-0 as offensive coordinator and that should be
remembered in any objective discussion about the Gators offense.
But, when you use a derogatory term such as "easy boy" in addressing me I guess
objectivity isn't what you're interested in.

Easy boy, it’s called an analogy. I’m not calling him incompetent, I’m saying
he’s inexperienced as an OC calling plays, which he most certainly is. I was
commenting on a specific theory that maybe we’re holding back our ‘real’
offense in a clever ploy to hide our plays from future competition. I don’t
agree. My point is that you don’t have to look for sneaky behavior when a
simple and obvious explanation exists.

Now you may object to my entire premise, citing our 9-0 record, but I maintain
that we’re 9-0 largely because of our defense and that this offense has not yet
come close to meeting its potential (except, perhaps, in the Georgia game). I
also believe that play-calling has a lot to do with that. Meyer obviously
agrees since every offensive change he suggested they would employ after the
MSU game involved a change in play-calling. I’m happy we’re undefeated, but I
would be happier still if our offense were playing to their potential. We’ll
need that to beat Alabama and Texas..

For the record, I’m not unhappy or disgruntled, nor am I complaining. These are
amazing times to be a Gator and I’m having a great time this season. I’m just
objectively discussing the strengths and weaknesses of our team, something fans
have done as long as sports have existed. I guess we could all limit our
comments to ‘Go Gators’ all week, but I’ve always enjoyed a little more depth
in discussions.

Rob

P.S. Go Gators!

Well, in one little stat, that is won/loss the new inexperienced and
incompetent offensive line coach is 9-0. Mullen never accomplished that.

Let’s get rid of that idiot and get someone in there who can throw the ball

I don't think South Carolina can find someone better than SOS. I could see him
getting tired and leaving, but I cannot imagine them forcing him out. Not at
this point.

On a related note, I've heard the same about Ron Zook. Several sports
analysts on talk radio here in Chattanooga all agreed that he's gone at the
end of the season unless the Illini "Foley" him and fire him before the

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A former Florida State linebacker has been jailed for
what his attorney is calling a prank gone awry.

Bradley Fanelon Jennings faces an aggravated assault charge in connection to
the Oct. 30 incident at a Check 'n Go store. Records indicate he was released
of Duval County jail on $10,003 bond Tuesday.

According to a police report obtained by The Florida Times-Union, authorities
believe Jennings walked into the store wearing a white mask and black clothes.
The suspect was wielding what appeared to be a shotgun and demanded money from
the clerk. He later took off of his mask and said the incident was a joke. He
left the store but came back later to apologize.

Jennings' attorney, Reginald Estell Jr., told the newspaper that the ordeal
was a "bad-idea prank."

Well that just shows how clueless I am. It wasn't until I read your message,
Zeb, that I even thought of the standalone word 'boy' in that phrase and all
the negative connotations that go with it. I grew up riding and training horses
and 'easy boy' was something you said when a horse got agitated to calm him
down. Where I live, it's just a common way of saying ' hold on, don't get
upset, let me explain' when someone starts to get angry about something.
Seriously, Oliver, if you took it as the pejorative use of 'boy' then I do
apologize. Nothing could have been further from my mind.

I am familiar with the other pejorative uses of the term "boy," and didn't
read any into its usage here.

Oh, silly me, when you use an analogy that infers incompetence I think
you're inferring incompetence. Perhaps it's your English usage I should
question. But, the fact is Addazio is 9-0 as offensive coordinator and that
should be remembered in any objective discussion about the Gators offense.
But, when you use a derogatory term such as "easy boy" in addressing me I
guess objectivity isn't what you're interested in.

Easy boy, it’s called an analogy. I’m not calling him incompetent, I’m
saying he’s inexperienced as an OC calling plays, which he most certainly is. I
was commenting on a specific theory that maybe we’re holding back our ‘real’
offense in a clever ploy to hide our plays from future competition. I don’t
agree. My point is that you don’t have to look for sneaky behavior when a
simple and obvious explanation exists.

Now you may object to my entire premise, citing our 9-0 record, but I
maintain that we’re 9-0 largely because of our defense and that this offense
has not yet come close to meeting its potential (except, perhaps, in the
Georgia game). I also believe that play-calling has a lot to do with that.
Meyer obviously agrees since every offensive change he suggested they would
employ after the MSU game involved a change in play-calling. I’m happy we’re
undefeated, but I would be happier still if our offense were playing to their
potential. We’ll need that to beat Alabama and Texas..

For the record, I’m not unhappy or disgruntled, nor am I complaining. These
are amazing times to be a Gator and I’m having a great time this season. I’m
just objectively discussing the strengths and weaknesses of our team, something
fans have done as long as sports have existed.

Arkansas Razorback. PIG SIIIEE, Bert! Maybe some of your luck on
beating the ol' ball coach will rub off on us this week. Speaking of
Arky-Carolina, we think we might have had the spread backwards on that game. I
think I put Carolina favored by 5.5, not Arky. But shouldn't really have
mattered, anybody knows Carolina ain't gonna win by 5.5 in Fayetteville.

But please accept my apologies for the screw-up. Alzheimer's might be
setting in. I know don't..I mean I don't know. J

For the year, Vince Santamaria has pretty much locked things up. He's
got a 5 game lead over Hal Jarvis and a 7 game lead over Dean Tilman and Dan
Lloveras. This late, that kind of lead is virtually insurmountable.

There's another Thursday game this week, USF at Rutgers, so hurry on over
and play.

Former FSU linebacker jailed for bad prank

The Associated Press

JACKSONVILLE , Fla. — A former Florida State linebacker has been jailed for
what his attorney is calling a prank gone awry.
The suspect was wielding what appeared to be a shotgun and demanded money from
the clerk. He later took off of his mask and said the incident was a joke.. He
left the store but came back later to apologize.
Jennings ' attorney, Reginald Estell Jr., told the newspaper that the ordeal
was a "bad-idea prank."

Well that just shows how clueless I am. It wasn’t until I read your message,
Zeb, that I even thought of the standalone word ‘boy’ in that phrase and all
the negative connotations that go with it. I grew up riding and training horses
and ‘easy boy’ was something you said when a horse got agitated to calm him
down. Where I live, it’s just a common way of saying ‘ hold on, don’t get
upset, let me explain’ when someone starts to get angry about something.
Seriously, Oliver, if you took it as the pejorative use of ‘boy’ then I do
apologize. Nothing could have been further from my mind.

  Caption Planet: Head Ball Coach
  by Adam West (Gainesville SUN)

"Two late-season losses in a row? Here we go again." (The Associated Press)

South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier's tenure with the Gamecocks has been
a lot like the candy Sour Patch Kids. They both start out sweet and then turn
sour toward the end.

Spurrier seems to give South Carolina fans a reason to be optimistic every
year, but he has dealt with late-season downturns in his first five seasons in
Columbia.

The Gamecocks closed the season with two straight losses in 2005, Spurrier's
first season at South Carolina. Two years later, the Gamecocks started the
season with a 6-1 record before losing five straight. Last year, Spurrier's
squad lost three straight to close out the year.

This season, South Carolina heads into Saturday's game against top-ranked
Florida after two consecutive losses against Tennessee and Arkansas. Despite
all the frustration, Spurrier isn't giving up on the Gamecocks. He said Tuesday
that he hopes to be around for another three or four years.

In honor of the Head Ball Coach's resiliency, this week's Caption Planet is
dedicated to that all-too-familiar look on Spurrier's face over the past five
seasons.

  On to this week's winners.

Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen does his best impression of Rodin's The
Thinker.

This week's top caption for the photo of Mississippi State's quizzical coach
Dan Mullen goes to John B. "Toto, I have the feeling we're not in Gainesville
anymore."

  Honorable mentions

"What the hell has Adazzio done to my offense?!" Rob Alexander

"Gee, Ref, can't you flag Demps for breaking the speed limit?" Oliver Barry

  "Really? Dive play.again?" ccb223

"Can someone tell me why I left Florida to come to this cowtown again?" ag

"I wish Spikes would jerk out this tooth!" Leon Polhill

Thanks to everybody that contributed last week. Send in your ideas this week
for the Steve Spurrier photo. Add your entries as comments below or e-mail them
to adam.w...@gvillesun.com. Also if you have any funny photos you would like to
see appear in Caption Planet, send those my way as well.

Records indicate he was
released of Duval County jail on $10,003 bond Tuesday.

According to a police report obtained by The Florida Times-Union,
authorities believe Jennings walked into the store wearing a white mask and
black clothes. The suspect was wielding what appeared to be a shotgun and
demanded money from the clerk. He later took off of his mask and said the
incident was a joke. He left the store but came back later to apologize.

Jennings' attorney, Reginald Estell Jr., told the newspaper that the ordeal
was a "bad-idea prank."

Caption Planet: Head
  Ball Coach

by Adam West
(Gainesville SUN)

"Two late-season losses in a row? Here we go again." (The Associated Press)

South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier's tenure with the Gamecocks has
been a lot like the candy Sour Patch Kids. They both start out sweet and
then turn sour toward the end.

Spurrier seems to give South Carolina fans a reason to be optimistic every
year, but he has dealt with late-season downturns in his first five seasons
in Columbia.

He said
Tuesday that he hopes to be around for another three or four years.

In honor of the Head Ball Coach's resiliency, this week's Caption Planet is
dedicated to that all-too-familiar look on Spurrier's face over the past
five seasons.

On to this week's winners.

Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen does his best impression of Rodin's The
Thinker.

This week's top caption for the photo of Mississippi State's quizzical coach
Dan Mullen goes to John B. "Toto, I have the feeling we're not in
Gainesville anymore."

Add your entries as comments below or e-mail
them to adam.w...@gvillesun.com. Also if you have any funny photos you would
like to see appear in Caption Planet, send those my way as well.

Oh, never mind it makes sense now ...

You know what would have been even funnier?  If the clerk had a gun and shot him dead.  Ha Ha Ha - that's just as funny.

What a moron.  I hope he is a moron because he is lying about it being a prank - and not just a moron and it really was a prank.

[gatortalk] RE: [gatornews] [SUN / A.P.]: Spurrier not leaving USC [A.P. / Associated Press]

2009-11-11 Thread Charlie

Unless the unthinkable happens Saturday and to a lesser extent against
Clemson I think this is it for the OBC.

Spurrier not leaving USC

The Associated Press

It's been another trying season for Steve Spurrier at South Carolina.

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Steve Spurrier says he'll be back in the middle of South
Carolina's playcalling and back on the Gamecocks' sidelines next season.

Spurrier said Tuesday that he'll increase his play-calling role down the
stretch and won't let the potential of another frustrating finish - the
Gamecocks (6-4, 3-4 Southeastern Conference) have lost two straight with No.
1 Florida and No. 23 Clemson left - lead him to leave the Gamecocks after
the season.

"Obviously, the president and the AD and all that decides on who coaches,"
Spurrier said. "But hopefully we've got some guys that are really going to
help us on the way. We have a good coaching staff here and so forth.

"Again, I hope and plan to go three or four more years," said Spurrier, 64.
"We'll see what happens."

What's guaranteed is Spurrier will be more emphatic in getting the play he
wants on the field after last week's 33-16 loss at Arkansas.

Spurrier had mostly ceded weekly game-planning duties to son, Steve Jr., the
past two years, but has maintained veto power if he didn't like the call. At
least twice this season, Spurrier said the Gamecocks were too conservative
on offense at times, including after the Razorbacks defeat.

"I call most of the plays and I may be the principle playcaller now with
suggestions from the other coaches," Spurrier said. "That's about how we've
been doing it."

Spurrier also wants to get himself inside offensive huddles near the
sidelines during stoppages and changeovers. He had let first-year
quarterbacks coach G.A. Mangus, a former player and assistant for Spurrier
at Florida, do most of the talking to reduce the chatter and voices directed
at sophomore quarterback Stephen Garcia.

That's over, Spurrier said. "I do plan to get back in the huddle with all
the guys every time they come to the sideline," he said.

Spurrier has gone 34-26 overall and 18-21 in the Southeastern Conference
since replacing Lou Holtz here after the 2004 season with a mantra, "Why not
us?" borrowed from that fall's World Series champion Red Sox.

Five seasons later, some Gamecock fans are asking "Where are the wins?"

Perhaps most troubling is South Carolina's tantalizing pattern of early
success followed by closing disappointment.

"It's kind of become a seasonal thing around here," defensive tackle Nathan
Pepper said.

South Carolina lost its final three in Spurrier's 7-5 debut season. Two
years later, the Gamecocks opened 6-1 before losing five straight to miss
the postseason. Last fall, South Carolina was 7-3 before dropping its last
three contests to Florida, Clemson and, in the Outback Bowl, to Iowa by a
combined 118-30.

Spurrier was so torn up by that last one, he thought about quitting last
January.

"Who wouldn't have?" he said.

Instead, Spurrier revamped his coaching staff through attrition and
dismissals with five new assistants and a new strength coach. The group
helped lock up young players last winter who play key roles now like
receiver Alshon Jeffery, cornerback Stephon Gilmore and tailback Jarvis
Giles.

Besides their talent (Jeffery leads the Gamecocks with six TD catches),
Spurrier says they bring an attitude of achievement and knowledge of the
hard work it takes to win unlike what he'd previously seen around South
Carolina.

"We'll have some guys come that I'm really looking forward to coaching,"
Spurrier said. "I'm looking forward to watching Alshon Jeffery, Stephon
Gilmore. We've really got some good, young guys that have a chance to have
some big-time careers here."

As for now, Spurrier said he was proud of the Gamecocks' effort at Arkansas
and thinks they've already exceeded expectations of many, win or lose the
last two games.

"We know it's not easy," Spurrier said. "But we've got to have exceptional
guys that have a commitment to really wanting to be champions. Hopefully, we
can get that going here in the next two or three years."

[gatortalk] reoccurring theme - SEC offenses not doing well in the red zone

2009-11-11 Thread keith

I've heard it from several SEC coaches this year -"We move the ball down the field good - we just can't score from the red zone".

Perhaps its more of a strength of SEC defenses?
