In many ways, I don't like making a #1 pick. Both were huge in their time. Danny will always be the #1 in passing efficiency and the first to win the MNC. Tim will always be the first to win two MNCs (three?) and the most rushing touchdowns. These are some of the reasons I posed the question, these and The Pat Dooley show made me think of it. If you just look at body of work/records Tebow wins hands down. But, considering passing ability, etc of Danny and the fact he did something at UF that had never been done previously... Then you have to consider Danny for #1 also. Winning a NC for the first time is something akin to climbing Mt Everest. Danny did that and did it after suffering a beating from the semis not unlike Timmy's concussion. They're both great competitors and people. So, I'm voting for Danny, since no one else is. I'll always love Danny. He gave us our first MNC and he's an amazing person. But if I had to choose, I'd say Tebow. Tim is a generational player, the type that most of us will likely never again see in our lifetimes. It's not just that he was critical in one MNC and led us to another. It's not the Heisman, which Danny also achieved. It's his style of play and leadership. It's the way he takes the entire team on his back and wills them to victory. It's his unbounded enthusiasm. It's those times like when he ran down the field and crashed into the defensive huddle on the sideline, challenging them to step up and get the job done. It's that he's not showboating when he does things like that; he really feels it. There has never been a leader like Tebow in Florida history and there never will be. We will have more championships, but we'll never have another like Tebow. Ed Tauscher and Tod Dickson soared to first place last week in Pick 'Em, both finishing 13-3. A slew of people came in second at 12-4. I'm proud to say I finished dead last. 4-12. That takes some careful picking. For the year, we now have a tie for first place. Daniel Lloveras and Vincent Santamaria are at 93-67. Hal Jarvis is one game behind at 92-68, and in third are Chris Fraser and Dave Miller at 89-71. So it's gonna come down to the wire. We'll get this week's game ready tonight (we hope) because of the Thanksgiving festivities. ya know...I think the real question that seems to be morphing here is...who has meant more to the program during his tenure...and I guess I would answer with a type of question...would we have landed Meyer and/or TT if Wuerffel/SOS/grossy et all hadn't elevated this program to the heights its seen in the last 15-20 years? I was considered a serious student, but 6 hours a week would have meant I only went out one night a week. Six minutes into the game, it was perfectly clear the Gators showed up with their chinstraps buckled and their focus solely on FIU. “Tuesday and Wednesday is when this game was won,” Florida coach Urban Meyer said after the Gators dismantled FIU to the tune of 62-3 before a crowd of 90,473 at The Swamp Saturday afternoon. “You see it all the time where you see guys don’t take whoever you’re playing seriously. When I showed them the film of how they played Alabama and how they [IFU] played Rutgers and the 98-yard kickoff return [by T.Y. Hilton against Alabama] ... Tuesday and Wednesday was serious the way they came out.” Those serious Tuesday and Wednesday practices turned Saturday’s game into another day at the office for the Gators, who ran their record to 11-0 this season and their nation’s best winning streak to 21 games. Even though the Gators scored on eight of their 10 possessions and only one --- a missed 53-yard field goal in the first quarter --- came up empty, this was hardly an emotional performance. The Gators simply took care of business, walked away with a win that can best be described as efficient and immediately turned their focus to Florida State. Even in the post game locker room, there wasn’t much celebration. The usual singing, speeches and recognition of outstanding players was over and done within a matter of minutes and the clock started ticking on the next business week, which just so happens to be a big deal even if Florida State needed a come-from-behind win over a very bad Maryland team Saturday to get a game over .500 and bowl eligible. The way the Gators go about their preparation this week will be the same way they prepped for FIU, but there will be a different edge because it’s a rivalry game. With Meyer every win is a must win, but a win over a rival --- he’s 10-1 in rivalry games against Tennessee, Georgia and Miami, 4-0 against FSU --- carries additional importance in terms of prestige and recruiting. “It’s the world ... it’s what makes this job the best job in college football,” Meyer said. “It’s what makes this stadium the best stadium in college football. It’s Senior Day at Florida. This is going to be a special week and in case you’re wondering, it’s started already. It’s going to be a special week. We have a plan and the plan is practice really hard on Tuesday. That’s our plan. No secret handshakes or anything like that. Just go as hard as we can on Tuesday and then come back and go as hard as we can on Wednesday.” Going hard on Tuesday and Wednesday got the Gators prepared for their most efficient performance of the season against FIU. Florida scored 62 points with eight offensive touchdowns and one by the defense and they kept FIU out of the end zone. The Gators ran and passed for 584 yards while holding FIU to 189. As impressive as those numbers were, however, the most important number of the day was zero --- as in zero sacks allowed, only the fourth time that’s happened all year, and zero turnovers for the fourth straight game. Tim Tebow played one half and one series in the third quarter, racking up 102 yards rushing including the 55-yard touchdown run, the longest of his career, and 215 yards and two touchdowns passing. I don't remember the circumstances, but yes, he was the QB when we played in Athens. That was the year my car was towed by the Athens PD for illegal parking. There were lots of UGA cars parked where I was parked, but they selected ME for towing. It couldn't have been the gator stuff on the car, could it? Go figure. I went brain dead for a little bit. You sir are correct, somehow I managed to confuse Bobo with Belue, I certainly knew better, Bobo was the QB back then, although Ward occasionally lined up there. Anyway, I sure thought Ward played an instrumental part in beating us because I remember him distinctly as being from that 97 team. But then again back then I was known to take great liberties before, during, and after the game with John Daniels, so it could have been a figment of my hallucination, err I mean imagination. I was at work or school from about 8 AM to 4 PM. Then I went home, took my daughter to gymnastics or piano lessons and helped with her homework, ate dinner with her and supervised her bath and bedtime. Then I went back to school to the computer lab (hahahaha... I only knew a handful of people who had their own computers in those days!) or did my own homework... Sunday thru Thursday. If I didn't have homework or it was Friday or Saturday night, I went out with friends. One night of partying would be at least six hours so I don't know how these lightweight kids today are only getting six hours of partying in within an entire week. ;-) They must not be good time managers. LOL. I read an article last night on the Internet stating that, because Weis was busy preparing for the Super Bowl after he was hired by Notre Dame, his first recruiting class was extremely thin, consisting of only fifteen kids. The writer's point was that this year's team lacks the senior leadership that can make the difference between winning and losing, especially the close games. However, a player signed in February of 2005 would have used up his eligibility by the end of the 2008 season, unless he was redshirted. So this year's seniors are Weis' second group of signees. Consequently, I don't know it the writer's point is valid. I wonder how Urban's 2005 signee class was regarded compared to Weis', in the minds of the recruiting services. In general, I believe those who follow recruiting closely regard Urban's 2005 group as being the least attractive of his recruiting classes.
