Up there, too? I am AMAZED at all the Bama shirts, hats, jackets, etc that I
am seeing here in Chatt-town. This has NEVER been a big Bama area, and has
always seemed to split the majority of fans between UT and UGA, with some
gators, Bama, and other SEC sprinkled in. However, since Bama won the NC,
you can't hardly walk or drive a block without seeing their fans.

Leon,
If you've never gotten mad and cussed about the Gators, I'd have to wonder
about how good a fan you are.
Just because we get exasperated with them it doesn't mean anyone is a fair

BTW, this reminds me. I'm really sick of seeing all the Alabama fans who've

I hope we beat the H3LL out of them next year!

One of the things many people have worried about during this recruiting
cycle has been how recruits have reacted to the relatively different looking
Florida coaching staff.

Charlie Strong was such a strong recruiter and one of the most well
respected defensive coordinators in college football. Now, he's at
Louisville. Billy Gonzales was probably Florida's most personable recruiter
behind Urban Meyer. Gonzales was so good that he could pull any sort of
player, and he was just a receivers coach. Now, he's at LSU. Former running
backs coach Kenny Carter wasn't known for being the greatest recruiter, but
he did enough to keep Lithonia, Ga., Martin Luther King running back Mack
Brown comfortable with his Gator commitment. Even after Meyer's health saga
began, it was Carter who kept Brown in the fold.. It wasn't until Carter
decided to follow Strong to Louisville that things got a little foggy with
Brown.

Brown said he was "confused" about what to do. But he had every intention of
waiting to see who Florida brought in and how he connected with the new
coach before he madea final decision about his college destination.

Well, Florida did a great job easing Brown's nerves by rehiring Stan

during an in-home visit and then seeing him again during his official visit
last weekend, he's "pretty firm" on his Gator commitment and has decided not
to entertain any other coaches from different schools or take any other
official visits.

"Coach Drayton, he's been at Florida before, so I trust Coach Drayton,"
Brown said. "I'm ready to learn from him.

"He seems like he knows everything at Florida. He knows what he's doing and
he knows a lot about the running back position."

Replacing Gonzales figured to be quite a chore for Florida's staff, but
shortly after Zach Azzanni was hired, the Gators grabbed West Palm Beach
Dwyer receiver Robert Clark's commitment. He said it was the relationship he
developed with Azzanni while at Florida's summer camps that really helped
him earn trust in his future coach.

Then there was the replacement of Strong. The defensive coordinator. The guy
that runs the defense. The one you report to last when you miss a tackle,
regardless of where you're playing. Meyer took his time in picking the right

UF early enrollee Matt Elam waves to the crowd after receiving the 2009
Florida Dairy Farmers Mr. Football Award during halftime.

Fans were officially introduced to one of Florida's biggest recruits of the
2010 class Saturday night.

During halftime of the Florida-South Carolina men's basketball game, West
Palm Beach Dwyer safety Matt Elam was honored as the 2009 Florida Dairy
Farmers Mr. Football.

Elam is one of UF's 11 early enrollees from a class of 25 that is currently
the consensus No. 1 recruiting class in the country.

Elam is the 18th winner of the annual award sponsored by Dairy Farmers, Inc.
and the Florida Athletic Coaches Association to honor the top high school
football player in the state.

Elam joins Tim Tebow (2005) as the only other Gator to receive the award.

During his senior year, Elam collected 92 total tackles, including eight for
loss, six sacks and two interceptions, while leading Dwyer to a 14-1 record
and the Class 4A state title. Elam also played running back, rushing for
1,895 yards and scoring 29 touchdowns.

Elam was also named a U.S. Army and Under Armour All-American.

Rivals.com, Scout.com and ESPN all ranked Elam as a five-star prospect.

Elam's journey to Florida was a bit choppy as he first committed during his
junior year. However, he began to waver on his commitment during the fall
after Florida continued to recruit other safety prospects. Elam then
switched his commitment to Florida State on New Year's Eve because of
concern over UF coach Urban Meyer's health.

After a phone conversation with Meyer while in San Antonio for the U.S. Army
all-star game practice, Elam then de-committed from Florida State and
re-committed to Florida during the Army game.

Elam said it was his relationship and faith in Meyer, who he met while Meyer
recruited his older brother Abram to Notre Dame during the mid-90s, that
made him re-affirm his pledge to UF.

South Carolina's basketball teams didn't have a bad weekend trip to
Gainesville, just a bad minute or two.

After the men dropped a last-second decision to UF Saturday night, the
women's team let go of a lead in the final minute Sunday to fall to the

Tebow will 'just be me' at Senior Bowl

The Associated Press

Last Modified: Sunday, January 24, 2010 at 8:48 p.m.

MOBILE, Ala.— The questions came at Tim Tebow like a blitzing linebacker —
about his mechanics, ball placement, footwork, release. All that technical
stuff that the Florida quarterback will continue hearing about as he tries to
transition to the NFL.
Tim Tebow

In this Jan. 1, 2010, file photo, Florida quarterback Tim Tebow looks to
pass during the Sugar Bowl football game against Cincinnati at the Louisiana
Superdome in New Orleans. Analyzed and scrutinized more than any college player
the last four years, Tebow is really about to go under microscope. Tebow will
spend next week at the Senior Bowl, trying to impress NFL scouts, coaches and
general managers and prove he can be an NFL quarterback.

The Associated Press

And that was just from the media.

For all the talk about what he needs to change, Tebow is more focused on
the latest piece of advice from Gators coach Urban Meyer ahead of his weeklong
attempt to impress far more important observers: NFL executives and coaches at
the Senior Bowl.

"Coach Meyer called me last night and he said, 'Promise me one thing: Just
be you and you'll be fine,'" Tebow said Sunday, a day before the players go
through weigh-ins and their first practices in front of a few hundred NFL
personnel.

"I'm just going to be me. I'm going to be excited, I'm going to be
passionate, I'm going to have fun," Tebow said. "I'm going to love playing the
game out there, just like I always have. Hopefully the coaching staffs and the
owners and general managers will just like me."

As usual, Tebow will be the most talked about and scrutinized player on
either team leading up to Saturday's game. The Senior Bowl is his first real
shot at answering the oft-voiced questions about whether he can successfully
run an NFL offense, or whether he will have to switch to tight end or H-back.

He's not in Mobile, Ala., to show he can play either one of those fallback
positions. "I'm here to be an NFL quarterback," Tebow said.

Tebow said it was an easy decision to come to the Senior Bowl and let NFL
types pick apart his game — including a long windup and the fact that he's got
to go from the shotgun to taking snaps under center — and pick his brain in
face-to-face interviews.

"I'm going to be playing with a lot of the best players around the
country," Tebow said. "Also it's an opportunity for me to compete, and that's
never been anything I shied away from."

NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock called it "a brilliant move" because it
lets Tebow put his intangibles like leadership on display.

"The fact that Tim Tebow is coming here and willing to expose himself to
this kind of scrutiny, I think, speaks volumes to the type of kid that he is,"
Mayock said.

"Here's a guy that's arguably the best football player that ever played
college football. Yet most NFL scouts will probably put him in the third round.
He's got some major issues here, but he's so impressive a kid and those
intangibles are so high."

So are the demands on his time. Even with Alabama stars like Terrence Cody
and Javier Arenas on hand, Tebow still had to navigate fans wanting him to sign
autographs and pose for photos at the downtown hotel where Senior Bowl players
and coaches are staying.

An official even warned reporters not to ask for autographs before Tebow
spoke at a news conference.

Walking out of the room, he stopped for a youngster who asked, "Can you
please sign my ball?" Then he obliged when a woman pleaded, "Tim, can you pose
for a quick picture?"

Beforehand, he shook hands with 10-year-old Garrett Dyess of nearby Spanish
Fort, who was sporting a No. 15 Tebow jersey.

"I'm an Alabama fan, but I'm a huge Tebow fan," said Dyess, who waited
another hour before managing to get Tebow's autograph.

Now, his job is to make the same kind of fans out of NFL teams. In the
meantime, he can draw on the skepticism voiced by draft analysts for a little

Interesting. Brantley was the Gatorade National Player of the Year.

How does a national player of the year not earn 5 stars? Anti-UF bias

It's simple. We want 5 stars, but can only get these guys with a 4/5 star
quarterback starting for the next two years.

Fans were officially introduced to one of Florida’s biggest recruits of the 2010 class Saturday night.
During halftime of the Florida-South Carolina men’s basketball game, West Palm Beach Dwyer safety Matt Elam was honored as the 2009 Florida Dairy Farmers Mr. Football.
Elam is one of UF’s 11 early enrollees from a class of 25 that is currently the consensus No. 1 recruiting class in the country.
Elam is the 18th winner of the annual award sponsored by Dairy Farmers, Inc. and the Florida Athletic Coaches Association to honor the top high school football player in the state.
Elam joins Tim Tebow (2005) as the only other Gator to receive the award.
During his senior year, Elam collected 92 total tackles, including eight for loss, six sacks and two interceptions, while leading Dwyer to a 14-1 record and the Class 4A state title. Elam also played running back, rushing for 1,895 yards and scoring 29 touchdowns.
Elam was also named a U.S. Army and Under Armour All-American.
Rivals.com, Scout.com and ESPN all ranked Elam as a five-star prospect.
Elam’s journey to Florida was a bit choppy as he first committed during his junior year. However, he began to waver on his commitment during the fall after Florida continued to recruit other safety prospects. Elam then switched his commitment to Florida State on New Year’s Eve because of concern over UF coach Urban Meyer’s health.
After a phone conversation with Meyer while in San Antonio for the U.S. Army all-star game practice, Elam then de-committed from Florida State and re-committed to Florida during the Army game.
Elam said it was his relationship and faith in Meyer, who he met while Meyer recruited his older brother Abram to Notre Dame during the mid-90s, that made him re-affirm his pledge to UF.

Easy for Tebow to say.

MOBILE, Ala.— The questions came at Tim Tebow like a blitzing linebacker — about his mechanics, ball placement, footwork, release. All that technical stuff that the Florida quarterback will continue hearing about as he tries to transition to the NFL.

In this Jan. 1, 2010, file photo, Florida quarterback Tim Tebow looks to pass during the Sugar Bowl football game against Cincinnati at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans. Analyzed and scrutinized more than any college player the last four years, Tebow is really about to go under microscope. Tebow will spend next week at the Senior Bowl, trying to impress NFL scouts, coaches and general managers and prove he can be an NFL quarterback.
The Associated Press

And that was just from the media.
For all the talk about what he needs to change, Tebow is more focused on the latest piece of advice from Gators coach Urban Meyer ahead of his weeklong attempt to impress far more important observers: NFL executives and coaches at the Senior Bowl.
"Coach Meyer called me last night and he said, 'Promise me one thing: Just be you and you'll be fine,'" Tebow said Sunday, a day before the players go through weigh-ins and their first practices in front of a few hundred NFL personnel.
"I'm just going to be me. I'm going to be excited, I'm going to be passionate, I'm going to have fun," Tebow said. "I'm going to love playing the game out there, just like I always have. Hopefully the coaching staffs and the owners and general managers will just like me."
As usual, Tebow will be the most talked about and scrutinized player on either team leading up to Saturday's game. The Senior Bowl is his first real shot at answering the oft-voiced questions about whether he can successfully run an NFL offense, or whether he will have to switch to tight end or H-back.
He's not in Mobile, Ala., to show he can play either one of those fallback positions. "I'm here to be an NFL quarterback," Tebow said.
Tebow said it was an easy decision to come to the Senior Bowl and let NFL types pick apart his game — including a long windup and the fact that he's got to go from the shotgun to taking snaps under center — and pick his brain in face-to-face interviews.
"I'm going to be playing with a lot of the best players around the country," Tebow said. "Also it's an opportunity for me to compete, and that's never been anything I shied away from."
NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock called it "a brilliant move" because it lets Tebow put his intangibles like leadership on display.
"The fact that Tim Tebow is coming here and willing to expose himself to this kind of scrutiny, I think, speaks volumes to the type of kid that he is," Mayock said.

Now, his job is to make the same kind of fans out of NFL teams. In the meantime, he can draw on the skepticism voiced by draft analysts for a little extra fuel.
"I look at myself as a pretty self-motivated person, so I don't really need to listen to all the critics," Tebow said. "But if I need a little extra motivation, they're all there. Maybe just throw them on the top to get a little extra motivation."
He said he hasn't signed any endorsement deals yet, but the outspoken Christian has drawn debate for a Super Bowl commercial that is believed to be an anti-abortion message.
Tebow is standing his ground on that position, just like he is on his playing position.
"I know some people won't agree with it, but I think they can at least r

I for one am thrilled with Burton, he wants to be a Gator (unlike some of
our other committed/not-committed players) and is an incredible ball player.
I think Murphy is being recruited as an athlete. The Tebow version of the
spread offense has scared away the elite, traditional drop back passers.
With Brantley at the helm the next two years, you will see a more
prototypical QB and the elite prospects will once again line up.

Have faith.
