GAINESVILLE Here's all you need to know about the state of University of
Florida football in the year 2010 AD (After Divinity).

Tim Tebow's new haircut at Denver Broncos training camp has generated more
national buzz than coach Urban Meyer's entire team.

"Tim creates a storyline wherever he goes," a smiling Meyer said of Tebow's
"awful" Friar Tuck hairstyle .

Even at UF's Media Day Tuesday, the major storyline seemed to be this: How can
the Gators possibly avert a Biblical plague and keep Ben Hill Griffin Stadium
from getting turned into a dust bowl by a swarm of locusts without Timmy
Terrific here as its protector and promise keeper>?

At the risk of being struck down by a bolt of lightning emanating from heaven
above (aka Pope Urban's second-floor office), I am now going to write something
that Gator Nation might find completely and utterly blasphemous.

Are you ready for this?

I'm glad Tim Tebow is gone!

That's right, I'm actually excited about watching Florida football without
every bit of media attention, every ounce of fan adoration and every
third-and-1 carry going to Tebow.

Don't get me wrong, Tebow was great for UF in every way imaginable. He is one
of the best players and greatest ambassadors college football has ever known.
He had it all charisma, character, passion and performance. And it's certainly
not his fault the media and fans fell in love with him, fawned over him and
turned him into the most overexposed college athlete in history.

But it's OK to admit it. After four years of endless hype and hoopla, you
became all Tebowed out, didn't you? It's something I like to call Chronic Tebow
Fatigue. Symptoms include glazed eyes and a noticeable face twitch whenever his
name is mentioned. I've written this once, and I will reiterate it here: If you
listen to the same song -- even if it's your favorite song -- over and over
again, you start to grow tired of it.

Even though UF players and coaches won't admit it publicly, they, too, are
excited to be entering the this new phase of Florida football. All you have to
do is read between the lines and you can grasp it.

"No rock stars this year," safety Ahmad Black told reporters at the beginning
of fall drills.

"It's a new era," Florida wide receiver Deonte Thompson declared Tuesday.

No, UF fans won't have "The Chosen One" running over speeding linebackers on
the field and circumcising Filipino children off of it, but there's something
inherently charming and disarming about slow-talking new quarterback John
Brantley, who described himself Tuesday as "Just a regular dude from Ocala."

And let's not forget, Tebow may be Gator divinity, but Brantley is Gator
aristocracy. His father, John, of course, quarterbacked UF in the 1970s, and
his uncle Scot was a star linebacker who went on to play for the Tampa Bay Bucs.

Brantley still has not proven he can succeed at the major college level, but he
was every bit as highly recruited as Tebow. In fact, he broke Tebow's state
high school record for career passing yards.

And make no mistake, the other players are excited about Brantley taking over.
As great as Tebow was, he undoubtedly

thought Florida's would have been more like Georgia Tech's. Is the reason
that Florida's is so low because of affirmative action?

So.. I came up with an interesting theory on why Georgia may be ranked so
low and I want your opinion of my analysis.

First the facts...

* The State of Florida is ranked 10th nationally in education
depending upon the source.
* The State of Georgia ranks anywhere from 41st to 47th nationally
depending upon those same sources.
* The overwhelming majority of "Georgians" are fans of UGA.
* The admissions standards at GaTech (and probably UF too) are
drastically more difficult than that of UGA.
* Atlanta is home to the largest UF Alumni association outside the
state of Florida.
* One of the prominent law firms in Atlanta (and the nation) is led
by... a Gator. And that is just in one of the many law firms in which a
Gator practices.
* The leading sports talk radio show is owned by... a bunch of Gators.
* Two of the main Meteorologists on local network TV... Gators.
* Several leading Doctors at the major hospitals in Metro Atlanta (and
I am sure throughout the State)... yup. Gators.
* Erin Andrews... resident of Atlanta.
* Chipper Jones... plays (well did till recently) for the Atlanta
Braves
* Mike Mullarchy... former Gator.. current Offensive Coordinator for
the Atlanta Falcons.
* Al Horford is drafted by the Atlanta Hawks... and suddenly they are
making the playoffs.

My analysis and conclusion: UGA is the reason Georgia is nearly a bottom
feeder year after year in terms of their ranking nationally in education
and its really the GaTech and UF alumni that is keeping Georgia from hitting
the basement altogether. It is then reasonable to believe, as if we needed
to prove this, that all UGA fans lack critical thinking and reasoning skills
or any common sense whatsoever. I mean.. they did choose to be UGA fans
after all.

I mean.. they did choose to be UGA fans
after all.

It's also fun to go thru periods like the '95-'96 teams and the '06-'09 teams.
you know? They are all fun to go thru, but some are more special and fun than
others. The next couple of years may be a ton of fun to!

Isn't Mike just stating the obvious here?

I think our offense will be great this year.

Not to take anything away from Tim Tebow, but it's time he move on.

That's one of the great things about college football. No one stays more
than 4 years. redshirts not withstanding.

SPORTS COMMENTARY

8:52 PM EDT, August 10, 2010

GAINESVILLE Here's all you need to know about the state of University of
Florida football in the year 2010 AD (After Divinity).

Tim Tebow's new haircut at Denver Broncos training camp has generated more
national buzz than coach Urban Meyer's entire team.

"Tim creates a storyline wherever he goes," a smiling Meyer said of Tebow's
"awful" Friar Tuck hairstyle .

Even at UF's Media Day Tuesday, the major storyline seemed to be this: How
can the Gators possibly avert a Biblical plague and keep Ben Hill Griffin
Stadium from getting turned into a dust bowl by a swarm of locusts without
Timmy Terrific here as its protector and promise keeper>?

At the risk of being struck down by a bolt of lightning emanating from
heaven above (aka Pope Urban's second-floor office), I am now going to write
something that Gator Nation might find completely and utterly blasphemous.

He is
one of the best players and greatest ambassadors college football has ever
known. He had it all charisma, character, passion and performance. And it's
certainly not his fault the media and fans fell in love with him, fawned
over him and turned him into the most overexposed college athlete in
history.

But it's OK to admit it. After four years of endless hype and hoopla, you
became all Tebowed out, didn't you? It's something I like to call Chronic
Tebow Fatigue. Symptoms include glazed eyes and a noticeable face twitch
whenever his name is mentioned. I've written this once, and I will reiterate
it here: If you listen to the same song -- even if it's your favorite song
-- over and over again, you start to grow tired of it.

Even though UF players and coaches won't admit it publicly, they, too, are
excited to be entering the this new phase of Florida football. All you have
to do is read between the lines and you can grasp it.

"No rock stars this year," safety Ahmad Black told reporters at the
beginning of fall drills.

"It's a new era," Florida wide receiver Deonte Thompson declared Tuesday.

No, UF fans won't have "The Chosen One" running over speeding linebackers on
the field and circumcising Filipino children off of it, but there's
something inherently charming and disarming about slow-talking new
quarterback John Brantley, who described himself Tuesday as "Just a regular
dude from Ocala."

And let's not forget, Tebow may be Gator divinity, but Brantley is Gator
aristocracy. His father, John, of course, quarterbacked UF in the 1970s, and
his uncle Scot was a star linebacker who went on to play for the Tampa Bay
Bucs.

Brantley still has not proven he can succeed at the major college level, but
he was every bit as highly recruited as Tebow. In fact, he broke Tebow's
state high school record for career passing yards.

And make no mistake, the other players are excited about Brantley taking
over. As great as Tebow was, he undoubtedly monopolized the offense. He
carried the ball more than the running backs. He targeted only a couple of
receivers. He dominated the ball more than he distributed it.

Let's not kid ourselves. Playmakers want to make plays; they don't want to
be downfield blockers so the quarterback can make all the plays.

"Everybody knows Tebow was our main ball carrier," running back Mike
Gillislee says. "Now that he's go

* Chipper Jones... plays (well did till recently) for the Atlanta
Braves
* Mike Mullarchy... former Gator.. current Offensive Coordinator for
the Atlanta Falcons.
* Al Horford is drafted by the Atlanta Hawks... and suddenly they are
making the playoffs.

My analysis and conclusion: UGA is the reason Georgia is nearly a bottom
feeder year after year in terms of their ranking nationally in education
and its really the GaTech and UF alumni that is keeping Georgia from hitting
the basement altogether. It is then reasonable to believe, as if we needed
to prove this, that all UGA fans lack critical thinking and reasoning skills

after all.

He is
one of the best players and greatest ambassadors college football has ever

"Now that he's gone, the backs are going to get a chance to
shoulder more of the load. That's exciting for us. If you're a running back,
you want to run the ball as many times as you can."

I believe UF's offense will be even more explosive with Brantley at
quarterback. Different receivers will catch more passes. The running backs
will get more carries. Of course, the big Urban Meyer $4-million-a-year
question is this: Will the Gators get as many wins?

Nobody knows for sure what the post-Tebow era will be l

Just remember that the next time you are tempted to use such a degrading and

tried to insult me by calling me a "knuckle dragger", but I still cherish

"Ladies?!!!"

How could you, Randy?

That's so insensitive.

How would you like it if someone called you a "gentleman?" You wouldn't like
it at all, would you?

Just remember that the next time you are tempted to use such a degrading and
insulting word.

;-)
