[gatortalk] Re: [gatornews] Today's Gatornews from Miami Herald and Palm Beach Post
If I had a Heisman vote, this would make me vote for TT for sure!!! - *DOING IT ALL* For his day-into-night's work, Tebow carried the football 16 times Saturday for 80 net yards and that ramrod touchdown, and despite the elements he completed 12 of 21 passes for 185 more yards and three more scores. His 265 yards of total offense and four touchdowns in less than 3 ½ quarters qualified as -- if there can be such a thing -- typically extraordinary. (You have reached a sweet spot in sports when your excellence is assumed.) Oh yeah, Tebow also recovered teammate Emmanuel Moody's fumble, threw a hellacious block for Harvin and made the tackle after teammate Jeffery Demps' lost fumble. Tebow did everything Saturday except stop the rain, play the clarinet at halftime and write a headline for this column === In Saturday's Soak at Doak, for instance, a waterlogged 45-15 Florida clobbering of Florida State, Tebow contributed the following to his already comprehensive career, which includes the first Heisman collected by a sophomore: · One smothering block on an FSU free safety to spring Percy Harvin around the corner for Florida's first touchdown. · One tackle of an FSU defensive end, who recovered a fumble by Gator running back Jeffery Demps and went 2 yards backwards after coming in contact with Tebow. · One fumble recovery, when teammate Emmanuel Moody coughed up the ball. · Oh, and here's one that won't show up anywhere. One time drawing double-coverage from the FSU secondary on a flea-flicker play that was designed for wide receiver Louis Murphy to hit Tebow for a touchdown pass. [gatortalk] Smellinolies cheered...ALL of them, when Percy got hurt!!!!
[This is from a Pat Dooley article...] "What their fans did when Percy got hurt is one of the first times I've ever seen almost a whole stadium cheer," Tebow said. "I think that shows not very good sportsmanship. That kind of irritated me. I told the coaches just to get me the ball because I want to hit someone extremely hard the next play. I was a little shocked. It's a rivalry, but we're still playing a game." On the second play after Harvin's injury, Tebow barreled into the end zone from four yards out carrying FSU's biggest defenders with him, moving the pile with great determination. Memo to opposing teams: Never make Tebow angry. wow...wow...wow!!! that's 100% unsportsmanship like conduct...but what the hell else can you expect from those idiots!!! -BadMan --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ GATORS: ONE VOICE ON SATURDAY - NO VOICE ON SUNDAY! 1996 National Football Champions | 2006 National Basketball Champions 2006 National Football Champions | 2007 National Basketball Champions Three Heisman Trophy winners: Steve Spurrier (1966), Danny Wuerffel (1996), Tim Tebow (2007) - Visit our website at www.gatornet.us -~--~~~~--~~--~--~---

Very sloppy, I should say!!! They also had a change of offense...suddenly, a quick QB who could run around, scramble and throw showed up and our reserves probably were totally rusty watching the first teamers pitch a total shut out! So, in today's BCS poll I think we will be #4 for sure...and maybe #3??? Hope so! -BadMan On Sun, Nov 9, 2008 at 9:07 AM, <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > We did get sloppy, but I think and hope most, if not all, of our starters > were out by then. > > Still, it's clear that whoever was in needs work. [gatortalk] Gators' speedy pair Chris Rainey, Jeff Demps surge ahead
orlandosentinel.com/sports/orl-fbcuf1608oct16,0,5366935.story OrlandoSentinel.com College football Florida Gators Gators' speedy pair Chris Rainey, Jeff Demps surge ahead Jeremy Fowler Sentinel Staff Writer October 16, 2008 GAINESVILLE The success of the No. 5 Florida Gators could hinge on whether two so-called scatbacks sustain their recent surge. Wait, retract that. No scatbacks here. Check the Florida weight room for proof that Chris Rainey and Jeff Demps are starting to transcend the speedster label. "They both bench over 300 pounds, they squat close to 500," running backs coach Kenny Carter said. "They might not be tall, but they're strong." As freshmen smaller than 5-foot-10, less than 185 pounds and with similar running styles, Demps and Rainey could be compared for the rest of their UF career. Even before the season's first snap, these world-class sprinters were foot-racing outside the dorms. These days, it's a lethal comparison for opponents. Ask Arkansas and LSU, who have given up a combined 401 yards rushing to these two. The two averaged 9.3 yards per carry in a 51-21 drubbing of LSU Saturday. Demps, who has four rushing touchdowns on the year, is averaging more than 40 yards per score, a stat that "surprised" him upon first glance. It could be worse. "I think if we get through [a hole], it could be over," Demps said about any given handoff to him or Rainey. "We made a couple big runs where just a few more inches and it would have been over." After criticism of the offense had avalanched on the Gators in recent weeks, an offensive explosion against LSU was welcomed by Gator Nation. So after jumping to a 17-0 lead, the Gators controlled the clock with 265 yards rushing, 195 from Rainey and Demps. All this came without running back Emmanuel Moody, who missed two games with an ankle injury and should return for the Kentucky game. When the offensive line holds blocks, these two only need milliseconds to plow through. "We knew we were a good team, but we felt we got called out as an offense," Demps said. "We know we can run it. We just had to come out and show the whole world. We took a lot of pride in it." Though speed is their common thread, Demps and Rainey have their contrasts. Rainey slithers through tacklers with make-you-miss moves that inspire Nike ads. Carter calls Rainey "the best natural back I've been around" because of his balance and no-fear attitude. Demps, the world junior record holder in the 100 meters at 10.01 seconds, has the type of speed that often doesn't require moves as he blows by defenders, though he has some. After redshirting last season thanks to shoulder surgery, Rainey said his health has provided confidence when running up the middle. "A year ago, when I got hit, my left shoulder, it would be painful," Rainey said. "Now I've gotten hit a couple times and it feels normal. Now when I get hit I can get back up and go do another play." If only Rainey, known as a fun-loving prankster, could always focus in the film room. "We're constantly trying to stay with him and say you have to be serious -- sometimes," Carter said. "Now he's starting to grasp that and he's really coming into his own." Maturity seems to be no problem with Demps, who starred at South Lake. "He's a superstar," Coach Urban Meyer said. "Not just with his speed, but I'm also talking about what kind of young guy he is. He's a tremendous player with a lot of talent. He's a great get for the Gators." * Read Jeremy Fowler's blog at OrlandoSentinel.com/swampthings and e-mail him at [EMAIL PROTECTED] * Copyright (c) 2008, Orlando Sentinel <http://www.orlandosentinel.com/> --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ GATORS: ONE VOICE ON SATURDAY - NO VOICE ON SUNDAY! 1996 National Football Champions | 2006 National Basketball Champions 2006 National Football Champions | 2007 National Basketball Champions Three Heisman Trophy winners: Steve Spurrier (1966), Danny Wuerffel (1996), Tim Tebow (2007) - Visit our website at www.gatornet.us -~--~~~~--~~--~--~---

[gatortalk] Re: [gatornews] Tebow sorry, promises better days
I totally agree. Offensive miscues (dropped balls, bad throws, fumbles...play calling) AND not above average play of our special teams (sorry, they have set the bar really high themselves!), IMHO is why we lost that game. Yes, there were a couple of defensive miscues...but a defense is allowed to be a little bit not perfect!!! -BadMan On Wed, Oct 1, 2008 at 12:21 AM, NZ_Gator <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > I disagree.
