Re: [gatortalk] Bench warning
My uncle coached high school basketball for several decades, and we used to take bets on how long the game would go on before he received a bench warning. He seldom lasted very long, and I hate to say that I saw him get technicals thrown on him more than a handful of times. He was an awesome coach, but his temper often got the best of him. :-/ Cee - Original Message - From: John Vega To: gatortalk@googlegroups.com Sent: Monday, February 14, 2011 11:19 AM Subject: Re: [gatortalk] Bench warning On Feb 13, 2011, at 8:47 PM, Helen Huntley wrote: Last night the refs gave Tennessee a "bench warning," akin to a "sideline warning" in football. One is when the coach is too abusive to the refs (but not abusive enough for an instant technical). He may get a warning, and the next outburst will get a T. The second is when a coach is outside of the coaching box. This is what happened to UT. There is a painted area that a head coach may pace within but, during the play, he is not allowed to step outside of. It has been a rule for over 25 year. I remember that John Thompson's feet were so big that he would stick his toes over the line as a bit of civil disobedience. Bruce Pearl, on the other hand, had run two or three feet outside of the box and was standing out on the court. Had there been a turnover, he would have been in the way. Easy call for the refs. -Zeb -- GATORS: ONE VOICE ON SATURDAY - NO VOICE ON SUNDAY! 1996 National Football Champions | 2006 National Basketball Champions 2006 National Football Champions | 2007 National Basketball Champions 2008 National Football Champions | Three Heisman Trophy winners: Steve Spurrier (1966), Danny Wuerffel (1996), Tim Tebow (2007) - Visit our website at www.gatornet.us -- GATORS: ONE VOICE ON SATURDAY - NO VOICE ON SUNDAY! 1996 National Football Champions | 2006 National Basketball Champions 2006 National Football Champions | 2007 National Basketball Champions 2008 National Football Champions | Three Heisman Trophy winners: Steve Spurrier (1966), Danny Wuerffel (1996), Tim Tebow (2007) - Visit our website at www.gatornet.us
