As I watch Coach Meyer on the sideline, he looks like he can't believe what
he is seeing... like he doesn't get why the team can't handle the simplest
things -- like know who to block, for example. So, I wonder: does he really
know this team? Did all the months off from January through August,
combined with delegating so much of his coaching duties, distance him from
his players?

I think the answer is "yes." I think that by stepping back from
micromanaging, he lost his "feel" for the team - who he can count on to
perform, who needs what kind of coaching, etc. Also, he's dealing with new
coaches.

What I see, in the sideline shots of Coach Meyer, is someone who can't
believe what he's seeing AND doesn't know what the hell he can do to cure
it. Lou Holtz pegged it during the halftime segment; he said there aren't
enough adjustments that can be made at halftime to cure the problems we
have, when guys don't know who to block, where to be, and how to tackle
(okay, I made that last one up :-)).

It will be interesting to see what happens with our coaching in the off
season.

I got watch the all of the game this time online but had to pause since the
performance was nauseating. At one point, I did think aloud saying that SOS
deserves to be there in Atlanta and not us (...I would have surely
celebrated if we had made it to the SECCG though!).

Losing Charlie Strong is also something that is not being highlighted much
because of the bigger problem of the offensive mishap that we have run into.
So, inexperience in coaching and not having the FULL BLOWN version of Coach
Meyer is definitely the biggest factor this season, IMO.

2010-11-14 Thread Scott Lucas

Oh, I haven't even touched on my defensive take yet... while
adequate, it hasn't provided what we are used to or expect. Austin is running a
pro style D which has a lot of movement around the LOS. The problem wih that
with the Gators is that we don't have studs across the board that make that
work. There has to be credible threat, speed, and production from the two down
lineman as well as all the ends and LBs standing up trying to create confusion.
I don't see that working with us without much more time in the system to learn
it. Again, a lot of reading and relying on others to do and be where they
belong.

It will be interesting to see what happens with our coaching in the off
season.

Re: [gatortalk] I wonder...

2010-11-13 Thread Badrish
I agree with you Mary.
