I might point out that we have Norm Carlson to thank for this. Carlson's is
generally considered to have come up with the idea to hype a Heisman
candidate when he sent out press packages to Heisman voters on a certain UF
quarterback named Steve Spurrier.

Contrast that PR campaign with Danny W's refusal to have his photo on the
cover of our 1996 Media Guide. He wanted it to be a team photo.

ESPN College Gameday just did a piece that said they and several
members of the heisman voters rec'd campaign type posters promoting
Ponders bid for heisman. 60+ days before the season has even STARTED
and 6 months before the vote/ceremony!
