Niki Mahajan brings lesbian issue to Fashion Week ramp

Designer Niki Mahajan chose the theme of lesbian love in her show at the
ongoing Wills Lifestyle Indian Fashion Week (WIFW) here Saturday, as she
feels that every human being has the right to be loved irrespective of their
sexual orientation.

'I chose to use the subject of lesbian love for my line because it is an
important issue and the message I wanted to give to my audience was that
when a husband can love his wife...why can't a woman love another woman?'
Mahajan told IANS after the show here Saturday.

'I want the world to realise that we should not shy away from accepting the
fact that love need not to happen between opposite sex...so we just accept
gay people as a part of our society rather than ignoring their presence,'
she added.

Mahajan through her collection paid ode to a fictional character Lata - a
woman who exists and who we want to see or do not wish to see because she is
a lesbian.

On the ramp, the models held hands and embraced each other to profess their
love for each other.

'My show showed that love between two woman is natural. They are so happy
with each other yet they can't be happy because the society doesn't allows
them to be so,' Mahajan explained.

The range had hand printed long and loose garments with even strokes. The
colour palette was dark and fabrics like hand woven silks, tussars, silks
and cotton were used.

Its with great pleasure that we would like to announce the formation of
TTGMT *( Tri-Testicular Gay Men’s Trust)*.  To the lay man this is an
association of gay men with three testicles. TTGMT will strive for the equal
status of Tri-testicular men amongst the LGBT community. The LGBT community
is rife with discrimination and we Tri Testicular Gay Men find no place in
it.  It is with this intention that we have decided to come together and
form our Trust that will take care of Gay men who find themselves with more
balls than the common ordinary gay man.

While it is obvious that a man with more balls should be respected, but in
this new age anti-patriarchal society, we are being pushed to the fringes of
the LGBT community. The Transgender lobby has espoused its cause well and we
take great inspiration from them. Considering that they have no balls and
occupy one end of the spectrum it is heartening to see how they have rallied
and stood up against the discrimination faced in the LGBT community. The
hijras in particular have done an amazing effort by distinguishing
themselves from the gay men and have paved the path for us .

Unfortunately we TTGM have been further discriminated by the transgender and
Hijra groups as they have refused to liaise with Gay men with more balls. We
were told that having an extra testicle does not make us more man , and that
we should have our mental health checked for claiming to form such a group.
We have been most disheartened to receive such hostility from a marginalised
group such as the TGs and hijras.  Laxmi Narayan Tripathi even disallowed us
an invitation to her Super Indian Queen Contest, “No men with 3 balls”, she
roared,” I cant even handle two yet”!

Just two days after the first such public marriage in Manipur, a gay couple
have agreed mutually to part ways following stiff resistance from their
parents, police said on Saturday.
 
Parents of 26-year-old Soibam Sandip and 28-year-old Nikhil Hidangmayum had
filed a complaint with Shingjamei police station in Imphal West district
against the wedding held in Christian-style on Wednesday. The
officer-in-charge of the police station counselled the gay couple, following
which they agreed for a divorce, they said.
 
According to the parents, the marriage was conducted without their
permission, although invitation cards were sent out to their friends about a
week earlier.
 
Sandip works in a beauty parlour run by Nikhil.
