g_b Wendell Rodricks picks KASHISH 2013 poster contest winner

2013-03-29 Thread Solaris Pictures
KASHISH 2013 Poster Contest has a winner! India's top fashion designer Wendell
Rodricks has picked the poster submitted by Mumbai-based graphic designer
Prachi Patil-Kotkar as the winning design. Check out the KASHISH 2013 Poster at
http://tiny.cc/pbyouw

``The victory sign forming a star is graphic and unforgettable. It is also
interesting that the clichéd rainbow flag colours have been totally ignored for
an artistic backdrop. I loved it,'' said Wendell Rodricks while announcing the
winner.

The contest to design the official poster for the upcoming 4th KASHISH Mumbai
International Queer Film Festival saw a record number of entries from
professional and amateur designers as well as design school students from
across India and several other countries too.

Prachi, who graduated from Sophia Polytechnic, and works as a senior
visualiser, illustrator and animator, said participating in the contest was a
great experience to remember. ``Receiving this wonderful award is such an
amazing honour and I would like to thank the KASHISH team for giving me such a
great opportunity,'' said Prachi.

Explaining the concept behind the poster, Prachi said that the backdrop was
meant to reflect the ``colourful waves, which represent a churning of dreams in
the ocean of life. The five ``victory signs'' reflect diversity - we may come
from different places, have different languages, individualities, dreams and
desires, but when we come together, we change and become a thing of beauty like
the star''

Read about it here -
http://kashishmiqff.blogspot.in/2013/03/wendell-rodricks-picks-kashish-2013.html

The winner of the poster contest will receive a KASHISH trophy and a gift
hamper. The winning design will also be featured on catalogue cover, print and
online advertisements, banners, cinema slides and delegate cards.

Festival director Sridhar Rangayan said: "The theme of KASHISH 2013 is
reflected very aptly in the design of the poster. The design is vibrant and
energetic, and has a thrust forward, which KASHISH promises this year with its
theme ' Towards Change'. This year, the audience can expect a range of films
that push cinematic boundaries and daringly question set notions of queer sub
culture.''

KASHISH 2013, the fourth edition of the India’s biggest and only mainstream
queer film festival, will be held between May 22-26, 2013 in Mumbai at a
multiplex and Alliance Française de Bombay. KASHISH Mumbai International Queer
Film Festival is the first and only gay & lesbian film festival in India to be
held in a mainstream theatre and the only queer festival to receive clearance
from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting

  [Paying it Forward

This is a fabulous and beautiful idea to share with café and
restaurant wherever you may be!

We enter a little coffeehouse with a friend of mine and give our order.
While we're approaching our table two people come in and they go to the
counter:

'Five coffees, please. Two of them for us and three suspended' They pay
for their order, take the two and leave.

I ask my friend: "What are those 'suspended' coffees?"

My friend: "Wait for it and you will see."

Some more people enter. Two girls ask for one coffee each, pay and go.
The next order was for seven coffees and it was made by three lawyers -
three for them and four 'suspended'. While I still wonder what's the
deal with those 'suspended' coffees I enjoy the sunny weather and the
beautiful view towards the square in front of the café. Suddenly a
man dressed in shabby clothes who looks like a beggar comes in through
the door and kindly asks

'Do you have a suspended coffee ?'

It's simple - people pay in advance for a coffee meant for someone who
cannot afford a warm beverage. The tradition with the suspended coffees
started in Naples, but it has spread all over the world and in some
places you can order not only a suspended coffee, but also a sandwich or
a whole meal.

Wouldn't it be wonderful to have such cafés or even grocery stores in
every town where the less fortunate will find hope and support? If you
own a business why don't you offer it to your clients ... I am sure many
of them will like it.

Read this passage yesterday of a fabulous idea which I really really
love and hope to share this! Have you heard of 'caffe sospeso' or
'suspended coffee'? For those of you who are from Naples or Bulgaria,
you would know what this means. Hopefully more cafes, restaurants, and
other businesses can adopt something similar; it could really reach out
to those who are really in needs. Please kindly share this out. Click to

2013-03-29 Thread Aditya Bondyopadhyay
Hi,

I just signed a petition to ask Nepal's Prime Minister to save the country's
biggest LGBT organisation. A local official is preventing award-winning Blue
Diamond Society from operating.

Blue Diamond Society serves thousands of people, providing them with access to
life-saving medication and care, as well as protection from discrimination and
police harassment.

Nepal's interim Prime Minister can intervene - but he'll only do it if he has
the political cover we can give him by raising a global outcry. Will you join
with me and sign now?

Prasad Kumar

Hello Guys,

Of late I have seen e-mails from many gay members asking if it is better to be
single or marry woman. I feel there is no one right answer as each persons
situation is unique. We are born within family and do not have an option of
choosing our parents, siblings and relatives. One needs to take a look at
larger pic especially of unintended consequences our actions will have on our
family, when you come out. Even if your parents and siblings accept you, at
what emotional & psychological cost?

I got married in my mid-30's under family pressure. My wife enjoyed sex and was
hungry for it. I didn't enjoy sex with her and avoided till it became
unavoidable. Sometimes; I pretended not well, sometimes tired, then I started
coming home late etc. I tried all tricks guys have already mentioned. Bottom
line was my wife was not satisfied in bed.To add salt to her wounds, her female
friends told her about their active sex lives. Sex is not only thing but it has
an important place in married life. Over time my wife's unhappiness spilled
over to other areas of our life as well; her interactions with my family
members and relatives. Disagreements and fights were common and finally we
split. The emotional and psychological consequences of divorce on my parents
and siblings were heavy. I lost both my parents within 2 years of divorce.
Though my siblings and their spouses are there but it's not same like before.

Divorce is still uncommon in India. Everyone knows it's last resort and there
is stigma attached to it. I was lucky to be able to move to the US. Many
Indians have misconceptions about western societies, here not all gay's are
out. The government has accepted gay sex but that doesn't mean all people are
accepting, the discrimination is invisible as people are professional. If you
see gay profiles on western gay sites, you see many gays are not out!! Also gay
society has its own norms, many whites prefer fair skinned guys, they like
Afro-Americans if they have bbc (big black cock) many non Asians have low
preference for Asians (chinky eyed) etc.

Indian gay society is still evolving, we are at least moving unlike societies
in many other countries. We have catching up to do as we are where western
societies were 50-70 years back. Lets face it we need to live in present day
India. Many Indian's do not accept reality and vast majority of gays are still
in denial. Many Indian gays classify themselves as bisexual. Many say I became
gay as I was molested in childhood etc. The fact is each of us is programmed
differently, and our program is gay!!There is no single solution for all gays.
Gays in west receive govt pension and other support in old age, many guys in
big cities in India can afford to be single and guys in smaller towns and
villages may need to marry. We need to listen to everyone but work out our
solution best suited for our situations and lives.

Regards,
Prasad
