'Sunday High' goes South Mumbai this time, on Saturday 25 April
Bombay Dost and author Parmesh Shahani team up to organise an interaction
for the LGBT community with banker-turned-people's representative hopeful
Meera Sanyal (http://www.meerahsanyal.in/) on the eve of V-Day. The event
will be held at The Blue Frog Club, D2 Mathuradas Mills, Compound, NM Joshi
Marg, Lower Parel. (Access from Tulsi Pipe road, across from Kamala Mills;

Meera Sanyal says she is keen to listen to demands from the LGBT community
and spell out her stand. She recently mentioned her view on gay rights in a
blog post: "My answer to this question is clear: I uphold the Constitution
and the Constitution upholds the liberty of thought, expression and belief.
I have many friends who are proudly gay and it is a privilege for me to
have their friendship."
The upcoming interaction on 25 April is an opportunity for the LGBT
community in Mumbai to:
1) present their views on a host of LGBT-related issues to a candidate who
is clearly interested in knowing it better;
2) to prevail upon her to get involved in our campaign for equality; and
3) possibly list some action points for her as a potential Member of
Parliament.
There will be a brief presentation by the Bombay Dost team on issues facing
the community (including the legal/rights and health perspective), followed
by an opportunity for Ms. Sanyal to speak her mind and a
question-and-answer session with the audience, moderated by Parmesh Shahani.
This event is open to all from the LGBT community all over Mumbai (and
those visiting here). It is also open to a small group of citizens from
South Mumbai constituency.
PS. If you are unable to be present, you can still send in your question to
bombaydost2...@gmail.com by midnight (IST) of 24 April. We shall try to ask
them on your behalf and mail you back her answer.
Please note: Through this event, the organisers merely aim to highlight
LGBT issues. This should not be construed as an endorsement for Meera
Sanyal, neither should it be seen as a thumbs down for any other
candidate/party in South Mumbai or elsewhere. To vote or not, and for whom
to vote is, of course, left to the individual's conscience.
