compiler should complain about the if test...

Here is a simple program:

}

When compiling the compiler complains:
gcc -o a a.c
a.c: In function ‘main’:
a.c:10:3: warning: case label value exceeds maximum value for type
   case 4: break;
   ^~~~

It would seem that 4 is within the bounds of 0 to 7.
