GCC no longer includes its own copy of boehm-gc, so I'm assuming the target
builds now, now that it doesn't have to try building the boehm-gc sources
anymore.

Doubt as you like; the target built before but doesn't now. That's a
regression.

boehm-gc should not be enabled for the embedded ppc.  In fact all of libjava
should most likely not be enabled.
