 I'll test this on Monday and get back to you.

Extensive changes [1] have been committed to current mainline (4.9). However,
they won't be backported to release branches (they are not regressions).

I will leave this PR open fow a while, please report any remaining -masm=intel
issues with current mainline (4.9) here.
