[gdal-dev] reading NOAA coastwatch hdf using GDAL

Dear GDALers,

I'm trying to read CoastWatch HDF files in GRASS GIS. These files can be 
downloaded from NOAA CLASS at 
http://www.class.ncdc.noaa.gov/saa/products/welcome.
I could not read the files directly into GRASS and have thought to extract just 
the SST channel (dataset) from the hdf into a gtif that is readable by GRASS.

Have someone on this list used the GDAL utilities to manipulate CW-hdf files 
(warp and export one band into tif with full projection info)? The affine 
transformation coeffs, included in the metadata, seems to be unreachable by 
GDAL utils.

[gdal-dev] gdalwarp and NOAA L1b

Dear GDAL'ers,

I've downloaded AVHRR L1b images from NOAA CLASS. I'm trying to rectify the 
images via gdalwarp -tps. The output is obviously erroneous as per gdalinfo 
(also tried to open image in GRASS). I would appreciate your help in resolving 
this issue. Alternatively, could you please recommend another public tool to 
perform the task?
