Re: [gdal-dev] Does anyone have built/compiled 64 bit versions of either FWTools or gdal

Has someone already documented the performance difference between x32 and
x64 versions of the FWTools / gdal? Improvement by how much? Many thanks.

Kevin,

I don't expect too much difference in performance, and I'm not aware of any
compare results. However one can do a compare by using the packages from
http://vbkto.dyndns.org/sdk/ which have been compiled by using the same
settings for x86 and x64. Any feedback on the experiences are highly
appreciated.

Best regards,

Tamas

[gdal-dev] Does anyone have built/compiled 64 bit versions of either FWTools or gdal

2010-06-03 Thread Doug White

John,

I have compiled GDAL 1.7.2, released 2010/04/23 on the following...

cat /etc/fedora-release
Fedora release 10 (Cambridge)

Linux dougwh 2.6.27.35-170.2.94.fc10.x86_64 #1 SMP Thu Oct 1 14:41:38
EDT 2009 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

/home/dougw/gdal-1.7.2 $ ./configure
--with-mrsid=/usr/local/Geo_DSDK-7.0.0.2167 --with-geotiff=internal
--with-python --with-ecw=/usr/local --with-libtiff=internal
--with-jasper=/usr/local --with-jpeg=internal --with-static-proj4=/usr
--with-local=/usr/local

No issues so far but I have been doing most of my work on 32bit laptop.

Doug.

John,

Tamas maintains win64 builds at:

  http://vbkto.dyndns.org/sdk/

 b.) Linux 64 bit

I'm not aware of 64bit builds except possibly through repositories like
DebianGIs. However, it really isn't that hard to build!

I run a regular (nightly) build of GDAL its Perl bindings as a part of
Geoinformatica stack on 64bit RHEL. The build log is available at
http://geoinformatics.tkk.fi/files/Geoinformatica/snapshots/build.log

The build is vanilla configure without any tricks and without any
problems recently.

I do that +/- regularly on Win7 with VS2010. No problem at all. The main
work was to compile all other libs that I link gdal with.
