Hi, I am the maintainer of gdal_retile.py. A user and me developed an essential
performance improvement for large images.

What is the best way to get the python file and the dox file into trunk and
into the 1.7 branch.

I have an OSGeo Account, but no svn commit access, so I could open a ticket for
version 1.7.4.

Should I attach these two files or should I make an svn checkout for trunk and
1.7 and attach patch files.

Christian,

Yes, filing a ticket is the right step. Patches are preferred to whole files,
but whole files are ok as long as you ensure you are starting from what is
in SVN (trunk and 1.7 branch) now to avoid integration issues on our side.

[gdal-dev] Re: Performance improvement for gdal_retile

2010-12-15 Thread christian . mueller
I have seen that Even has invested some time into gdal_retile, writing
a test case on trunk and making some python specific changes to the
utility itself. Since gdal_retile.py was my first python program I
want to say thank you for that.

Comparing 1.7 to trunk, I see that gdal_retile.py differs and that
there is no test case for 1.7. Looking at the roadmap

http://trac.osgeo.org/gdal/roadmap

I am a little bit confused. Does it make sense to invest time for the
1.7 branch or is it better to focus on trunk (becoming 1.8) only ?.

Thx
Christian

2010-12-16 Thread christian . mueller

Hi Franks, thanks for your quick answers.

The patch is here
http://trac.osgeo.org/gdal/ticket/3879

The test case test_gdal_retile.py is running and I checked the man
page with doxygen.

Please can you give me a ping after applying the patch to trunk. Since
I am a geotools/geoserver developer and I know about 2 modules
depending on the directory output structure, I will have to make some
noise on the developer lists after your commitment to trunk.

Thanks again for your support
Christian
