gEDA-user: Hierarchy Refdes and Component Values

2010-12-17 Thread Thomas D. Dean
I have a schematic with seven instances of a schematic, a hierarchy.

I want to give different values to the resistors in each of the
sub-circuits.

For example, I have S1 thru S7. In S1, I want R1=100, in S2, I want
R1=1k, etc.

Is this possible with hierarchy?

How do the components in the hierarchy get assigned refdes values?

gEDA-user: Build geda-gaf without XML

2010-09-25 Thread Thomas D. Dean
I am running FreeBSD 8.1.

Building geda-gaf fails.
make: don't know how to make libgeda.xml

Most likely, this failure is caused by some missing tool or lib.

I think this is created by build-tools/desktop-i18n.

FreeBSD has /usr/local/bin/xgettext and /usr/local/bin/gettext.

What other tools/libs are needed?

 FreeBSD has /usr/local/bin/xgettext and /usr/local/bin/gettext.

I found three problems, two with using build-tools/desktop-i18n and one
in symbols.

For some reason, I have not discovered, yet, make does not
use ../../build-tools/desktop-i18n to create files from *.in

# cd gschem/data
# ../../build-tools/desktop-i18n \
 --create geda-gschem.desktop.in geda-gschem.desktop
# cd libgeda/data
# ../../build-tools/desktop-i18n \
 --create libgeda.xml.in libgeda.xml

symbols/local directory was empty - install failed. Create a symbol
there fixed the problem.
# cp ~/CAD/sym/header-10-1.sym symbols/local

I will look at these, but, ...

I filed a bug report,

gEDA-user: Spice Example RF_Amp

2009-08-06 Thread Thomas D. Dean
I downloaded geda-examples-1.4.3.tar.gz, containing the RF_Amp example.

I built ngspice 19 from sources without error.

I get a max data size warning on any simulation, but, see no strange
actions when simulating other circuits. I tried a dozen emitter
followers with different models and the results were about what I
expected.

I wanted to use gEDA to generate models using hierarchy. The RF_Amp
example is exactly what I want to do.

I get a 'singular matrix' error when doing an op in ngspice 19 with the
MSA-2643.cir file from the tarball.

I think I missed something.

How do I get this patch into ngspice?? The mail list seems broken. Or

Re: gEDA-user: Gnetlist -g PCB

2008-06-29 Thread Thomas D. Dean
Thanks for the answers.

I ignored the warning, referencing it for completeness. However, you
explained the warning, not the problem I have going from gschem to
pcb. I invoked the commands used by gsch2pcb manually, checking for
where the odd pin numbers were inserted.

gnetlist -g PCB inserts pins numbered n1, n2, n+, and n-. Pcb does
not like these pin numbers, and, refuses to include the respective
components in the ratsnest. This is the problem I have, not the
warning! When I load the .net file into pcb, I get errors about these
pin numbers.

If I edit the .net file, changing pin numbers:
  from to
  n1 1
  n2 2
  n+ 1
  n- 2

pcb included the respective components in the ratsnest and autoroute
completes Ok.
