Lojack gets results for cars. There's bound to be some way to do
something that fits in with what happens with bikes. Why give up so easy?

Taking the headset off a bike is not too long or difficult on some kinds.
That might be an access point for some RF transparent frames.
A thief would not get results taking headsets off bikes he wanted to take...

Either it's in an accessible place and flys into the next garbage bin

Yes, it's viable a product.

Insuring against theft for a EUR 700 bike may cost me EUR 98 per 3 years
without Biketheft Protection Chip (BPC), and EUR 85 with BPC for the same
period.

Maybe you can guestimate the price any consumer in my area would pay for
your device ;-) based on above figures.

Bike theft is one of the most commited (and not resolved) crimes in the
Netherlands.

Well, I plan to use my own vehicle tracking module with SIM508 - I
already ordered one (it is reasonably cheap, and it has a GPS as well,
however it is only GPRS capable).

Actually I want to build it into my mum's car to check her on the net,
where she drives:-)))

Anyway I already made the symbol and footprint of simcard holder and I
use zero with pad for keepout - well, maybe it is not nice, but safe: it
is better to appear ugly than a short sim card signals.

Later on, if anyone interested in, I glad to share the design, but I
think it will not be ready in a week or two.

A zero width pad may fail the DRC. Being able to specify keepouts
would be a welcome addition to the footprint file format.

I use the silkscreen to provide keepout hints. Not ideal but it works.

gEDA-user: Copper-free area in footprint

2010-05-03 Thread Tamas Szabo

Hi,

Currently I make a footprint for an Amphenol SIMLOCK adapter
(http://www.amphenol.de/downloads/C707_10M006_500_2.pdf) and there are a
few area where copper/wires not allowed.

My best idea is, that I do it by pads which have a zero width and a
specified clearance. Unfortunately, those will have a rounded corner, so
rectangular corner seems impossible (I can reduce the radius, if I make
it from more pieces, but it never will be zero).

Is there a better way?

Thx,
