The only time I got noticable download delays was with the details
page for each product. IMHO, it would be best to use the same image
as in the overview and have an enlarge-button link to a big version.
Most browsers will notice the reuse of the same small image and take
it from cache --> no extra download needed.

Haven't tried it at home with FF on LMDE 64 bit.

:)

BTW; just submitted a couple of your pages to:

Quite a few errors. H.

From a perspective of Firefox user browsing with disabled JavaScript:

The main page is nearly empty (just menus) and seems to indicate
website is not complete?

Top menus do not work without JS enabled
Links on the bottom of the page work, but target of the link is not
visible to the user.

I believe you should also consider getting rid of the gray text in the
main content - first impression is that this text is unimportant and
it's hard to get accustomed to the fact you should actually read it
;-)

[after enabling JS]

The page load time is far from optimal, from my location image load
times (each 100kB-150kB) are between 400 and 2200 ms.

I'm also seeing some 404s in the trace:

Yes, the PCBs were all designed with gEDA :-)

The server is here in Australia, and I believe it's virtualised and
thus can have a significant start up delay. I'm worried that the site
may be too slow to load in countries distant from Australia, or that
the site may in some way fail to attract people to the product.

If you're willing to help then please check out the shop and let me

Hmm, you've got some really nice looking boards in there. I wish I
had a few extra bucks!

One bit of feedback: One thing I personally find VERY irritating is
pages that are designed for a web browser that takes up the whole
screen. I don't know about you, but the occasions in which I'm only
doing one thing at a time are few and far between, and having to scroll
back and forth because a page was designed to be too wide is really
annoying.

Being low on disk space isn't going to cause pages to load slowly.

Hi Stephen,

FWIW,

It's not clear to me if the prices shown are in $AU or $US and the
option to select one or the other doesn't appear to change the prices
shown on the products or in the cart.

I'm in the UK on a fairly throttled broadband connection and the
pictures took some seconds to load. How big are the pictures? Can they
be shrunk and still be clear enough not to look silly? That would
speed up page loading.

There's nothing to say what SOI is all about. Some sort of "About"
page would give the customer a bit more of a feel for what SOI is
offering, what makes it special, different from any other place. All
the usual business speak about Unique Selling Point etc. I'm a
customer: talk to me; give me a reason to walk in your shop, poke
about your shelves and buy your stuff.

The "Conditions of use" page maybe should be renamed "Terms and
Conditions" to make it clear that that is what they are as opposed to
some conditions of use of the website, which they are not.

Are you legally obliged to put any information on the site about
company registration, VAT numbering or whatever?
.
Cheers,

         Andy.

* If you add prices in EUR you'd target an additional continent :-)

* 25 USD for a MOSFET made me scratch my head until I read "tube of 75"
in the fine print. Why not sell small amounts, too (for a reasonably
higher price)? This is the trypical item I'd add to the purchase while
I am there -- But not if I have to take them by the hundred.

* details should include a link to a data sheet. This is most important
for your own products. If I have to convince someone higher in the
hierarchy, a print of specs might make or break the deal.

* what do the striked out prices mean? Do you have some sale going on?
Or is this the price officially recommended by the manufacturer?

* I find the price tag animation irritating. Maybe it is just me.
IMHO, the page would be better without it.

* download speed is not particularily fast, but still acceptable.
