Re: gEDA-user: Problems with a TDSON8 footprint

I think we'd need to see the actual PCB to know if there's a short.
My suspicion would be that you have the fet the wrong way around or the
pads are not assigned correctly in the footprint or symbol.

I'm attaching the symbol and am laying out the board. None of the pins
that tie to the big pad are orange, only the big pad and when I click
on the board the orange goes away.

Your symbol has 5 or 8 pins? The one big pad has what pin number?

I'd do a footprint/symbol with 8 pins, connect them on the schematic,
and draw poly across the connected pins on the layout. I don't know if
the poly clearance can be reduced to zero, of if you need to draw
thermals to the poly, or a fat line, depending what you need.

How can I do this? Suggestions? Or, since only the big pad that lays
across the pads for each pin turns orange, should I just ignore this?

Hi, I'll have a similar problem as I'll be trying to do a TO263S for a LM2575
Switcher from National.
I thought of the problem before and I think that giving the same pin number to
all the instances of the pad (each dent above) will highlight correctly.
But I haven't tried it yet... will do it later tonight... if time is available.
You will probably have to edit the .fp file in a editor as _I think_ that PCB
footprint editor does not allow it...
Good luck and thanks for sharing.
