Re: gEDA-user: SuSE rpms (was: gEDA/gaf stable version 1.4.0-20080127 released!)

2008-03-25 Thread Werner Hoch
Hi Peter and all,

sorry for the late response. I've finally tracked down all the menu,
desktop and mimetype stuff.

I put the description to the wiki:
http://geda.seul.org/wiki/geda:suse_rpm_installation

I'd like to get some feedback about the desktop integration for the
  different SuSE versions.
Are the Icons for gschem and gattrib in the following menu:
Applications--Edutainment--Construction

The Desktop menu items have been changed to:

  Application--Edutainment--Electronics

You have to install the electronics-menu rpm package to use it.

I don't see any call to update-mime-database in the libgeda package.
Is this OK? (I'm not far enough through my build for this to have
 been testable yet).

I've missed it the last time. It's fixed in the current libgeda and pcb
package.

 Also, is
 %suse_update_desktop_file geda-gattrib
meant to be an %install time process?

No the makro creates or modifies the desktop files. In our case this
moved all electronics menu entries into the constructions categorie.
I've removed this makro.

I couldn't find any documentation for that macro. If you found some,
can you point me at it please?

mime type toubleshooting:
I've had some hard hours to find out that I had some local mimetype
definitions in my home directory for gschem. Thus the mime types worked
great in GNOME but not in the KDE environment. If you don't have the
mimetypes in KDE, please run nautilus (the file manager of gnome).

Regards
Werner

Hmm, there should be mimetypes for KDE installed. E.g.:

/usr/share/mimelnk/application/x-geda-*
/usr/share/mimelnk/application/x-pcb-*

Thanks for the great work packaging these up.

Best wishes,

Yes but kde does not look in that folder:
 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/Mail/.Shopping.directory kde-config --path mime
 /home/werner/.kde/share/mimelnk/:/etc/opt/kde3/share/mimelnk/:/opt/kde3/share/mimelnk/

Ah, ok, sounds like SuSE moved it ;)

./configure libgeda with --with-kdedatadir = /opt/kde3

That should put them in the right place I think!

There may be a more SuSE place to install the XDG ones too
under /opt/*, although I recall from my SuSE box that /usr/share/* is
searched as well as /opt/...

Best wishes,

I've updated the gEDA stuff available from
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/werner2101/
on Friday.

Many thanks for providing the RPMs, that makes my life mutch easier, because I
use the gEDA stuff only from time to time but I like to use almost the newest
version.

uname -a gives Linux raven 2.6.22.16-0.1-default #1 SMP 2008/01/23 14:28:52
UTC x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
distribution is openSuSE 10.3
RC_LANG is set to de_DE.UTF-8

The Icons are placed at Lernprogramme - Konstruktion as shown by
snapshot1.png (if not deleted ;-).

Are the mimetypes correct for gschem and gattrib?

I don't know how to check the mimetypes out of the box. I only found x-ksinus
as known file type in konqueror setup. But if you like to give me a detailed
hint I will try it once more .

 @Peter C.:
You can grab the source rpms from the download server.

If you need only the spec files, please let me know.
