Have you tried Zend's stack? Makes it pretty easy

Re: [brlug-general] PHP Apache Windows 7 64bit

2011-06-15 Thread Byron Como

I'll try that next.

I downloaded the apache installer, works with no problems.
I got the php5 VC6 x86 Thread Safe version. It says "x86" so I'm
guessing that's the problem. I can't find a current 64-bit version.

No. I don't know what a wamp server is. Is that something I should know

Oh, I see. No, I'm using PostgreSQL. That's what QuantumGIS uses. I've
got a bunch of stuff in there too. Not like I can just migrate or run
two sql servers. I just want to learn PHP.

That all depends...Zend is an MVC framework in PHP. If you're looking to
learn basic PHP, WAMP would be a good starting point. If you want to dive
in and learn about working in an MVC framework go with Zend, CodeIgniter or
CakePHP. I would just beware that MVC frameworks can add a lot of overhead
to basic applications and websites; it shouldn't have an impact on a
development deployment/sandbox.

Zend Framework is a MVC framework in PHP. Zend is the company that maintains
the PHP codebase. The community edition of Zend Server is a very stable easy
to install stack. It installs all the same pieces as WAMP does.

The documentation on the download page seems to be out of date, giving
instructions for older binaries. I posted this fact to the php mail
list. Hope I didn't piss anybody off.
