the actual podlings we're here to help.

That said, the current incubation process clearly has problems and I
very much support efforts to improve the way we work (even if the

I'd like to leave the leadership on these efforts to others and, as
mentioned elsewhere, rather try to act as a balancing force that helps

Should I be elected, I'd resign as the chairman of the Jackrabbit PMC.
In fact I think it's in any case high time for Jackrabbit to be
 rotating that role.

Finally, if elected (and assuming the IPMC still exists), I'd serve
for at most two years before calling for a re-election, or possibly
much less if I don't find enough free cycles to perform the duty as
 well as it should.

Noel, I assume you'll still take care of submitting this months report
with the usual preamble you've been adding (or just let me know if I
should help draft it). Apart from that the wiki page is now ready with
all reports in and the discussed summary in place.

Sam suggested including the detailed podling reports only as a
reference to the frozen wiki page. That sounds like a good idea, but
perhaps we should still submit this months report in the usual format
with a request for feedback also from the rest of the board on whether
including just the summary and a reference to more details is enough

From my perspective, Chris's proposal and Benson's vote above
effectively turned this into a single issue question: is now the time
for Noah to be replaced by Jukka?

There are no question that all four individuals in question are great
guys. However despite the protestations to the contrary, all
available evidence at the present time show that Jukka has more time
available to devote to the Incubator. This means that we have here a
(possibly only modestly incremental) improvement, and one that is
readily reversible if necessary. What's not to like?

I'd still like a definitive list of who is running and a real
vote that includes all candidates. Is the presumption that Jukka
 is the only candidate valid??

Chris and I have bowed out in favor of Jukka. No one else was
nominated except Noel, and Noel made it clear that he was ready to
make way for a new chair if the community chose one. Bertrand and/or
Sam asked us to try to reach a consensus on one candidate.

So, this vote tests a consensus to install Jukka in place of Noel. If
no one objects, I personally think that the question is entirely
 answered.

 Hi Folks,

OK there has been enough discussion here. It's time to VOTE for a new IPMC
chair and it looks like the remaining folks (including me) that were in the
 running
have aligned beyond the following nominee: Jukka Zitting. Suffice to say, he
 was
 *my first choice* :)

In the interest of moving the current discussion matters forward, please VOTE
on this recommendation to the board by the IPMC. I'll leave the VOTE open
for at least the next 72 hours:

[ ] +1 Recommend Jukka Zitting for the IPMC chair position.
 [ ] +0 Don't care.
[ ]  -1 Don't recommend Jukka Zitting for the IPMC chair position because...

Note that only VOTEs from the Incubator PMC members are binding, but
all are welcome to voice their opinion and it will be recorded in the final
 tallies.

Finally, just to note, these VOTEs on personnel are normally the only
thing in Apache that is discussed in private (human/social issues), but
in the interest of openness and transparency that has been demonstrated
here during these discussions, I will hold this VOTE on the public list.

 Thanks!

 Cheers,
 Chris

 P.S. Here's my +1. Thanks buddy.

 Hi,

throw also my hat into the ring as a candidate to be the next chairman
 of the IPMC.

I believe in that role I could be more effective in focusing more of
our collective attention at where I think it would do most good - at
the actual podlings we're here to help.

That said, the current incubation process clearly has problems and I
very much support efforts to improve the way we work (even if the
result is to replace the Incubator with something better). However,
I'd like to leave the leadership on these efforts to others and, as
mentioned elsewhere, rather try to act as a balancing force that helps
 achieve consensus where possible.

 BR,

 Jukka Zitting

What I would like to see is the Incubator start identifying PPMCs that
are stalled, and to consider what information they need (in future
reports) to help them (us) make such a determination.  I am not
suggesting that this be made retroactive.  Or that it be done
immediately.  A plan would be fine: i.e., setting a date by which the
IPMC will have decided what information needs to be in such reports,
and a schedule by which the PPMCs need to start providing said
 information.

My suggestion is to ask the podlings now in category 2 to report again
in May on their progress on the identified blockers. If there's been
no measurable progress by then, we'll dig deeper to see what we can
do. Podlings reporting in other months can be picked up for a similar
oversight cycle over the coming months. By July we should then have a
pretty accurate record of progress throughout the entire Incubator,
including a clear list of podlings that are stuck and need help.

Before the next quarterly report I'd rely on mentors to help the
podlings identify and implement ways to move forward. And of course,
if a podling or its mentors feel that more help is needed, asking on
general@ or submitting an extra report is always a good idea.
