License and notice seems fine and couple of the issues found during the
vote on the dev list dosen't seem blocking.

 +1 binding.

Thank you, Luciano. We now have two binding IPMC votes, one from a
mentor, and one from another IPMC member who was kind enough to be
provoked into action by said mentor's troll.

Any other takers? :)

2012-12-01 Thread Ross Gardler
I'm with Benson here. But we do need to acknowledge the problem identified
(again) by Branko.

This is a mentoring problem not an IPMC problem. The IPMC needs to solve it
for existing podlings, and podlings where mentors have gone quiet but we
need to express higher expectations of mentors for new podlings.

Branko, talk to your mentors. If that fails talk to the IPMC.

Reviewing a release when you are not directly involved as a developer is
**really hard**.

As an IPMC member yourself, have you ever reviewed a release for podling you
were not involved with? There have been release candidates for podlings other
than Bloodhound which have gone waiting. A detailed review from you on one of
those -- with or without a vote, comprehensive or partial -- would be a
welcome contribution.

Activity on Bloodhound is picking up, and the project wants to release
 every couple weeks;

I suspect that pace is not realistic while Bloodhound remains in the Incubator
unless the podling manages to land a third core contributor who is also on the
IPMC to go with yourself and Hyrum.

I hereby propose we extend the silent consensus rule to podling
 release votes.

That's at odds with basic, ASF-wide rules for voting on releases.

Fwd: Advice on inviting Apache insight to NSF SI2 meeting?

2012-12-01 Thread Ross Gardler
Anyone able to help the NSF out at a meeting in DC in Jan?

See below for more info.

On a personal note I've noticed an increased, and genuine, interest in how
to improve the impact of publicly funded research outputs from the NSF in
the last couple of years. We are even seeing important components turning
up in the Incubator. I hope we can send someone able to help them
understand how we do things around here. It's your (US) tax dollars going
into this work.

I'd normally do this myself but I have a clash on these dates.

Let me know privately if you are interested and I'll help you/them figure
out who the best fit is.

Subject: Advice on inviting Apache insight to NSF SI2 meeting?
To: Ross Gardler rgard...@apache.org

Hi Ross,

I'm organizing a panel at an upcoming meeting for the PIs of all the
projects funded by the SI2 funding program at the NSF (SI2, or SI^2, is the
main Scientific Software funding program at the moment).

The panel is going to focus on Software Impact, and I'd like to have
someone who can inject an understanding of the importance of community,
including Incubator considerations such as non-salaried developers etc.
We're also considering adopting the DOAP way of describing the projects
and their infrastructure as a way of helping projects and the program
overall catalogue their activities.

The meeting is in DC in January Jan 17 and half-day 18th. Does anyone from
Apache come to mind (including yourself) that would be relevant either with
experience in Incubation, or from the DOAP/catalogue. Do you think your
experience with SIMAL would be relevant here, might you be interested?

Best regards,
James Howison

 But they are listed here:

Helix too.

What do I need to fix to get these reminders?
I just know the old wiki-styled process

Can you point to some maintenance instructions for all of this?

Sorry i do not have time to find them right now,
but it has been explained to this list on various
occasions so should be in the archives. We do need to
have better docs, so that we do not all forget, me included.

The main data file is now content/podlings.xml
Clutch parses that, gets other hints from each project
status page, checks that the podling's mail lists are
established and operating, then generates the report
lists of dev addresses.
http://incubator.apache.org/clutch.html#notes
http://incubator.apache.org/clutch.html#data

I think that i can see the glitch reported today.
Recently the setup of new projects mail lists infra
procedure changed. I immediately followed up an tweaked
Clutch to handle that. However it seems that the writing
of the report_due_[1-3].txt data files (which 'marvin'
uses to send the reminders) is not quite right.
Sorry no time to fix right now.
See http://svn.apache.org/viewvc?view=revisionrevision=1400367

The reporting web page lists are also generated from
content/podlings.xml each time that data file changes.
The CMS triggers and its Ant build uses some XSL in the
top level of the incubator SVN.
Some other stuff that we need to make more obvious:
http://incubator.apache.org/report-next-month.html
http://incubator.apache.org/report-groups.txt

License and notice seems fine and couple of the issues found during

  +1 binding.

Thank you, Luciano. We now have two binding IPMC votes, one from a
mentor, and one from another IPMC member who was kind enough to be
provoked into action by said mentor's troll.

 Any other takers? :)

+1 Binding

[VOTE] Graduate OpenMeetings from Incubator

During incubation, OpenMeetings has :
 * Produced 1 Release
 * Added 5 new Committer/PPMC members and shows constant community
activities
 * Cleared IP on all code
 * Developed Roadmap(s) for the next major and minor releases in a
