Drill Report - Shepherds View
I was pleased to a detailed report by the Drill PPMC and sign off by all the Mentors. Email discussions like the thread "What do you want out of Apache Drill" [1], should help the podling engage the community. Since the report is detailed, I will skip adding kudos to all the points but over all, Drill seems to be doing very well. Couple of suggestions for the project to consider * Its only 3 months into the incubation so too early to complain, but the project should consider release early and release often. Do not wait too long to make a release. * The mailing list traffic is good, but the JIRA traffic is lower than what I expected. Since there is a good interest shown by community, putting effort in listing the issues and breaking down the tasks might translate the community interest into contributions. Cheers, Suresh [1] - http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/incubator-drill-dev/201212.mbox/browser

Re: Incubator report reminders sent for Dec 2012
Well it seems simple enough- I get a bounce whenever I run the reminders script. Clearly the address listed on the rotation url must be wrong, otherwise reminders wouldn't produce a bounce. > > From: David Crossley >To: general@incubator.apache.org; Joe Schaefer >Sent: Sunday, December 9, 2012 6:31 PM >Subject: Re: Incubator report reminders sent for Dec 2012 > >Joe Schaefer wrote: >> The hdt-dev@ list is the wrong address, which >> explains why the others are missing: reminders.pl >> is not expecting the new mailing list pattern. > >Thanks for updating marvin reminders.pl to handle the >new incubator pattern. > >The hdt thing is something different. Thanks for updating marvin reminders.pl to handle the new incubator pattern. The hdt thing is something different. The hdt-dev@ list is the wrong address, which explains why the others are missing: reminders.pl is not expecting the new mailing list pattern. > > From: David Crossley >To: general@incubator.apache.org >Sent: Sunday, December 9, 2012 4:54 PM >Subject: Re: Incubator report reminders sent for Dec 2012 > >I do not know what is happening. I do not know what is happening. Marvin seems to have an old list. The list is here: http://incubator.apache.org/report_due_3.txt and does correctly have Onami, Ripple, and Streams. Oh well, just reminders, everyone should know. -David Marvin wrote to private@i.a.o: > > The next board meeting is scheduled for Wed, 19 December 2012, 10:00:00 PST. > > I have just sent reminder emails to the below addresses, requesting them > to supply board reports 2 weeks before the above date (Wed, Dec 5th). > > Please recall that the Incubator report is due Wed, Dec 12th. > > Allura Developers > Bloodhound Developers > cTAKES Developers > Drill Developers > Etch Developers > Flex Developers > Hadoop Development Tools Developers > HCatalog Developers > Kalumet Developers > Openmeetings Developers > S4 Developers > Wave Developers > > - - To unsubscribe, e-mail: general-unsubscr...@incubator.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: general-h...@incubator.apache.org

I hereby note my sign off of the wave report, and ask for a volunteer to update the wiki page on my behalf. My currently available technology is simply not up to the task. Wrapping it up: Retirement decision making
If no one minds I think it would be a good idea for the docs to be updated with our new common understanding. What I propose is for for a wiki page with the new wording to be created for us to comment/vote on. I'm happy to consolidate the current thinking on this. Also, I'm too lazy to troll through the list to collect the two new additional mentors for Chukwa, I think that it was Ant and Jukka. Can Ant and Jukka confirm? That said, I do think that the project is viable and an Apache community albeit a small, slow moving one. Given the nature of the project and its usage in automobile technology I don't think it will ever be as fast moving as a web or big data project. And that is not a bad thing for this type of software IMO. Martijn - To unsubscribe, e-mail: general-unsubscr...@incubator.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: general-h...@incubator.apache.org
