Re: [DISCUSS] Procedure for graduating an existing sub project to new top level project

Re: [DISCUSS] Incubating Proposal of Answer
Moreover, the functions of the app seem to be not just 'answer', but also 'ask' and 'discuss', with the real goal of community-building. So any variant of Answer for the product name would be a little misleading. a <https://www.avast.com/sig-email?utm_medium=email&utm_source=link&utm_campaign=sig-email&utm_content=webmail> Virus-free.www.avast.com <https://www.avast.com/sig-email?utm_medium=email&utm_source=link&utm_campaign=sig-email&utm_content=webmail> <#DAB4FAD8-2DD7-40BB-A1B8-4E2AA1F9FDF2> On Thu, Sep 21, 2023 at 10:36 AM PJ Fanning wrote: > For me, Answer is a problematic name. Link to a page that seems to be missing
Hi, all: On this page [1] there is a link to "facilities.html". That page does not seem to exist in the Incubator repository, so of course that link leads to a page-not-found error. Happy New Year! Andrew -- Andrew Wetmore Technical Writer-Editor Infra *Apache Software Foundation* andr...@apache.org 1: http://incubator.apache.org/faq.html
Link missing from an Incubator page
At the end of this page [1] there is this text: "The published Incubator Board reports can be found here." It looks like "here" is supposed to be a link, but I see no link. -- Andrew Wetmore Technical Writer-Editor Infra *Apache Software Foundation* andr...@apache.org 1: http://incubator.apache.org/guides/chair.html
Link missing on an Incubator page
Hi: This page [1] has this phrase: "Inspired by the ASF’s “Powered by Apache” logo [LINK], the “Apache Incubator Podling” logo ..." It would be good to replace "[LINK]" with the actual link to the ASF powered-by logo. Proposing edits to Incubator web pages
Hi, all: Over the next few days you will see a number of pull requests covering edits I am proposing to the texts of Incubator web pages. This is part of a project I have been working on for several months to do a little tidy-up of the texts of all Apache pages. As I work through the pages, I am trying to keep in mind how someone new to Apache and even to open-source work, and for whom English is not the first or an easy language, would engage with the texts. Using that lens, I often try to move sentences from passive voice, which tends to conceal who is to do what, to active voice. Passive voice is a valid and respectable form of English, but it can cause comprehension problems. I am happy to discuss any proposed edits. Questions from Dave Fisher
Hi: I tried and failed to subscribe to this list, so I have to remember to check the archive to see responses to what I post. Dave Fisher had these questions/comments about our page of Infra info for podlings: (1) Since you show .asf.yaml there should be a short paragraph and a pointer to that documentation. - I will add those (2) Regarding LDAP do you think it’s worth discussing that it is usually maintained in whimsy? - I will check with the team. Can't hurt! (3) Is there a document that describes the ICLA to account creation process? Or should I ask the Secretary? - There is such a page, but it is in the Foundation area on the main site. - we discuss it here [1]. I will provide a link to it. 1. https://infra.apache.org/new-committers-guide.html Thanks for the feedback! Infra info for new podlings
Hi, all: Infra has added an explainer about how it helps a podling get set up [1]. I thought you might want to add that to your packet of info for members of new projects. In particular, this page [2] asks whether there is a setup checklist, so perhaps someone could update that page to point to the new one. Thanks in advance! -- Andrew Wetmore Technical Writer-Editor Infra *Apache Software Foundation* andr...@apache.org 1. https://infra.apache.org/infra-incubator.html 2. https://incubator.apache.org/cookbook/#podling_infrastructure_setup
