Re: [PROPOSAL] VCL: Virtual Computing Lab

2008-09-19 Thread Matthieu Riou
Sorry for waking up only now. Before voting I'd like to know how this
poddling would compare to Tashi (see [1]). Sounds to me like there would be
a lot of common ground, no?

Thanks,
Matthieu

I haven't seen any questions or comments on the proposal so does silence
imply inadequacy of the proposal or unanimous consent that this is ready to
go to a vote? I hope for the comments.

 Thanks

Re: [PROPOSAL] VCL: Virtual Computing Lab

2008-09-19 Thread Matt Hogstrom

I knew a VOTE thread would stimulate folks :)

Perhaps Doug can weigh in on this from his perspective. I see there
is a difference in that VCL is about supporting multiple smaller
systems in a virtualized environment rather than a massive compute
kind of arrangement. I think there would likely be some overlap and
opportunities to synergize around image management / construction of
customized images, etc.

From Tashi's Proposal one of the goals of Tashi is The Tashi project
aims to build a software infrastructure for cloud computing on massive
internet-scale datasets (what we call Big Data).

VCL is about hosting smaller numbers of custom servers and managing a
set of physical assets that might be part of a cloud.

Re: [PROPOSAL] VCL: Virtual Computing Lab

2008-09-12 Thread Daniel S. Haischt
Hi there,

I am kind of interested but my interest goes beyond the provisioning
and management of bare metal machines or systems with an installed
virtual machine hypervisor. For example I am interested in
provisioning and managing router/firewall and Wi-Fi platforms as well
ranging from embedded systems to blade centers.

Actually I created a proposal called Bennu about a year ago which
describes the above use case but the feedback from the ML was as well
rather minimal.

Cheers
Daniel
