LOL, that'll teach you for telling us what you've got before it's stable :=)
Seriously, let me know if I can help; this is a cool service to have. I did
a bit of NNTP server administration once upon a time so if I can remember
how these things work and pitch in some support I'd be happy to.

Smart idea. Get used to working under Jakarta rules and see if you like it.
Then decide to propose to join.

I like that thinking, James. I think, however, that the extrinsic works of
Plato are the first, i.e. the dialogues. Do you know that the original
Greek for the Platonic dialogue commonly called the "Symposium" means
"Booze Party"? The "sym" means with (sym-biotic, sym-phony) and the
"posium" means "intoxicant". That should be something for a certain Friday
guy in this list to think about, eh?

RE: More fun with unused/duplicate/unnecessary import statements

2002-11-20 Thread Oliver Burn
Probably the best way to create patch to remove unused imports would
be to use an IDE like Eclipse. It provides an easy way to "organise
imports" for a project, which will:

  - Sort the imports in the order you specify

  - Remove unused imports.

You could then use Eclipse (or your favourite method) to generate
a patch.

Oliver

RE: More fun with unused/duplicate/unnecessary import statements

2002-11-20 Thread Tom Copeland
I generated the report using http://pmd.sf.net/ and some Ruby code -
I'll send it to you in another email.

That would be cool if we could autogenerate patches to fix this stuff.
The console interface to PMD can generate a report like:

==
c:\j2sdk1.4.1_01\src\java\awt\Component.java44 No need to
import a type that's in the same package
c:\j2sdk1.4.1_01\src\java\awt\Cursor.java 9 No need to
import a type that's in the same package
c:\j2sdk1.4.1_01\src\java\awt\Cursor.java 10 No need to
import a type that's in the same package
c:\j2sdk1.4.1_01\src\java\awt\Cursor.java 11 No need to
import a type that's in the same package
c:\j2sdk1.4.1_01\src\java\awt\EventQueue.java 19 No need to
import a type that's in the same package
c:\j2sdk1.4.1_01\src\java\awt\FontMetrics.java 10 No need to
import a type that's in the same package
==

so it probably wouldn't be too hard to write a Perl or Ruby script to
pull out the filenames and line numbers and scrub/diff the offending
files

Tom
